Have one of those boardman carbon things with 10sp SRAm gearing, and running a 10sp 105 chain. I seem to be getting through the chain fairly rapidly, 9sp chain is perhaps more durable? (I also have some spare unused ones lying around too)
So, has anyone tried a 9sp chain on a 10sp setup? 
I have a 30" waist, can I wear 28" jeans?
If you want it to work it's not the best idea.
I'd be interested to hear, let us know if you try it. 10spd chains are imperceptibly narrower than 9spd (if they are even narrower at all...) and I've used a 9spd powerlink on a 10speed chain without issue which suggests that any difference in width is negligible.
They are thinner for a reason, i suspect a 9 may work, however it will shift and run like a bag of spanners........
I've run a 10sp chain-set on 9sp everything else before completely going 10sp, I found a 9sp chain rubbed slightly on the chain-rings (10sp didn't) and it's likely it will on the cassette. It will go round and shift but as njee said it won't work well.
Blatant plug here, but I've got a couple of slightly used sram chains in the classifieds at the moment if you're interested
Why would anyone want to buy used chains?
Slighty used, done less than 50 miles each with no wear indicated. I'll stop here as I don't want to hijack the thread any more.
Its the cassette that's the problem, the spacing is narrower, i cant see it being a good idea
A kmc x10 is £19.95 on merlin, good chains.
