Dunno about Merrells, but my Salomons fit like most other footware I've ever bought. Let me know if you find a bargain, I need a new pair.

Size 9 in all Merrells I own (4 pairs or so of various types). Just switched to Salomon for some lightweight walking boots and a 9 there fits just me just as well.
Got 25% off the Salomons (Vega) in the 'we're in trouble' Blacks sale.

Me too and take a 42 in Salomons.

Depends on the shoe. Salomon tend to have a European narrow fit so although the length might be OK you have to go up a size or even 2.
I'm up one Euro size in XA Pro 3D compared to street shoes but was 2 sizes up when I tried on some Elios boots as they were so narrow (I didn't buy them).

That's odd. Reason I went for Salomon over Merrell this time is that Merrells seem to have got narrower over the 10 years I've been buying them and the Salomons gave me a more comfortable fit for my stupidly wide feet.slainte

My XA pro's are 10.5(uk), my Speedcross 3's are 11.5. I've never worn 11.5 in anything, ever!

choose half a size over "normal shoe size" in my experience

The XA Pro I wear are 42 the same as my previous Merrell's but normally wear a 41 in non-sports footwear. I don't like the fit of Merrell - had 2 pairs of different types of Chameleon which I simply never felt happy with. Pressure points in weird places, a strange footbed and the most treacherously slippery soles ever in the wet.
The XA Pro have a much bigger fore foot than Merrell but not all Salomon are the same. Had some Exit and Extend Low in the past and in one pair I was a 41.5 and the other was a 43!!

If you're losing sleep over half a European size, I'd respectfully suggest thicker socks. (-:

Comparing what I'm reading here with my own experience I reckon it must depend on what shoe/boot you're after.
I'm a size 7 exactly on my right foot and just over a half-size smaller on my left. I opted for a pair of Quests in size 7.5 (a foolish web order) but regreted it within miles of proper walking as opposed to simply wearing them around the house; they were much too small, even on my smaller foot, which was especially uncomfortable when descending as my toe bumped the front of the boot which would not only cause a callous given enough time but would also damage the GTX lining (not that it functions that well anyway). I've ended up buying a pair of 8.5 which are just right - nice and roomy on the toe box and snug in the heel area. Also bear in mind that I prefer to wear base layer socks as opposed to the thicker type of walking sock that many folk go for and you'll get an idea of the weird sizing of some of their range and I know I'm not alone with that experience.
My suggestion is to try them on rather than gamble on getting a good fit by guessing/asking on a forum.

I buy their trail shoes (e.g. XA's etc) a size bigger than my normal shoe size. Boots etc, you need to try them on.

Salamons vary greatly between shoe models, most are quite narrow, but some are really wide, dunno if you can tell from the webiste? I have 3 pairs and they are very different fittings.
