Last year there was a thread on here about cats – I can’t remember the gist of it, but I posted up a pic of one of our cats, Presley with a dead squirrel that he’d caught, killed and was sat with on the stairs looking a bit clueless as to what to actually do about it.
There were quite a few comments that he must be a tough cat to catch & kill a squirrel…..

Shortly after, he caught another one and didn’t really know what to do with it. I assumed that was the end of his squirrel phase.

But, I came home from visiting my parents on Sunday & there was a severely dead squirrel on the landing. It had been decapitated & it’s head was sat on the carpet. He’d eaten a fair portion of the body too.

Then yesterday I came home from work and I caught him in the cupboard under the stairs with another one. Again, he’d decapitated it and eaten half the head. He had already moved onto the body & came out of the cupboard when he heard me come through the door with a front leg in his mouth (much like a dog with a bone)….

I have photo’s but they are pretty graphic!

I’ve never heard of this before. Is there anyone else with a squirrel eating cat out there?!
We are spending a fortune on Vanish foaming carpet cleaner…..!

Nope. All grey so far. Don’t think we have any red squirrels nearby.

Mine has had several, eats most of them apart from the snout and the tail. He’s properly proud of himself too when he’s had one.

Yeah, mine purrs like mad when he’s got one. Like he’s the most awesome cat in the world!!
I felt a bit sorry talking yesterday’s one off him as it was already dead & I thought hemight as well eat what he wants…..but it felt a bit grim leaving him to it, so I ended up shooing the cat away, wrapping the squirrel in newspaper & giving him a wheelie bin funeral…..

My puss is more of a bunny rabbit cat. 3 times (most recently last weekend) I have been awoken by crunching noises coming from under my bed only to find the cat happily munching down a rabbit. To get there she has to jusp on the garage roof, go over the kitchen extension, onto the main roof, along the rain guttering, in through a Velux roof window on the en suite, onto the edge of the bath and then finally under my bed. It is a fair trek for a smallish female cat with a large rabbit. By the time I was able to clean up the last one there were 2 feet and a small amount of guts left. Nothing else!

Mine’s had a fair few squirrels, I think it’s when she runs the local bunny population down. I save a fortune on cat food at this time of year 😀

She brought a live one into the house once, I was obviously trying to catch it to get it out but had no chance, whereas for the cat it was as much of a challenge as playing with a mouse. Squirrels are clearly only fast and agile to a human’s eyes.

Out on the bike near my house climbing a short, sharp hill I heard some squeaking and rustling up ahead. Turn the corner I see a squirrel being chased by my own cat. Cat caught up and squeaking promptly ended.
Cats seem to have the legs on squirrels though she hasn’t brought any back to the house, she has and still does bring rabbits, birds, chickens and whatever else she can get her paws on though.

When I was a kid, our cat Moses got bitten by a squirrel (we think) and it got infected… Had to keep him in doors for a week or so. 2 hours after being let out again we had a dead squirrel on the back doorstep… I don’t know who was prouder at this apparent act of revenge me (aged 10) or Moses?

If only our two were interested, they mainly go for mice and the odd bird. Squirrels make a right mess of the lawn digging up nuts etc….

We had a tabby cat years ago which was a killer, came back with a stoat she’d killed once. She even used to chase the farmers collie. I’ve got a photo somewhere of a big white cat up a telephone pole with ‘Tabby’ sitting at the bottom waiting for it to come down.
Weren’t as many squirrels around then.

There is a woman round the corner who seems to feed the squirrels bags of monkey nuts at a time.
They end up in the lawn, in virtually every plant pot, stockpiled round the back of the shed…..I wouldn’t mind if they didn’t cause so much damage but the lawn was starting to look like someone had been planting claymores…

It’s quite annoying too, when you plant some new stuff only to have it dug out 36 hours later.

I feel a lot worse when he has killed birds than when he brings squirrels in….
Didn’t realise it was such a common thing though.

My friends cat Junior was a squirrel killer, Junior was tiny as well just a lot of attitude 😀 sadly Junior wasn’t hard enough to fight a car 😥

We had a cat that caught a squirrel once. God knows how it managed it as the cat was a tiny ginger fluffball so not exactly stealthy or big (although it was pretty feral). It struggled bringing it home though and resorted to scratching the front door and leading us to the massive dead squirrel on the driveway.

I’m still convinced it just found a dead one and just brought it home to show off.

Next doors cat has taken to hiding in a large grass in our border. He then ambushes anything that ventures in to our garden. In the last 2 weeks has massacred a pigeon, a crow, two blackbirds and a seagull. The lawn now has a nice top dressing of feathers. Where he takes them to eat I’m not sure. I haven’t found the remains yet.

A friends greyhound caught a squirrel, got so badly mauled it cost £400 to stich the poor dog back up!!

meet smokey, he had his first squirrel at the age of about 9 months. Pigeons are his favourite but we’ve had mice and rats too. Less nowadays because he’s about 10 now and we moved so there aren’t Amy to hunt

Squirrels. Pfft. Our cat went for a young fox last year. Poor innocent doe-eyed thing was naively wandering across our back garden when Sparkles exploded out from under her favourite bush and chased it off down the drive. She’s basically a ball of fur and razor blades.

I would like a cat killing squirrel, or somebody to train my neighbourhood cats to shit up in the trees… or on the M62.

My cat had a racing pigeon one day ,she had a liking for huge rats on the farm I lived which has cost me 1500 quid to treat the sight threating eye disease she now has for life .Drops daily and steroids !

Our cat just catches slow worms 51 so far this year all alive and uninjured and then released back into the garden

I see your squirrels and raise you a few bats. Unfortunately no picture evidence. Black and apparently stealth cat.

Any unique distinguishing marks on these 51 slow worms, or might they be the same one, brought back over again?

d4 – our last cat, Sukie once came in the house with what looked to be a large, dead leaf….a large dead leaf that changed shape, squeaked and started flying laps of the living room! Bat alert!
We managed to get the cat out and catch the bat using a large plastic sieve – it could tell something was there but not what it was.

We called a bat specialist, who basically said to just let it go (we were worried as it had a tear in its wing), so I took it down the road in a box and after a moment’s contemplation it flew off.

Only one she caught!

Another bat killer here, one of my two left me an offering just yesterday on the porch.

Genuine lol moment with the dead squizzer on the stairs. They do dead very well don’t they.

Correction 52 slow worms 4 yesterday alone mostly different large small different colours some with missing tail, we do have at the bottom of the garden what must be perfect habitat decking over the broken remains of a concrete garage which backs on to a 100′ long strip 10′ wide of long grass and brambles.
