So it;s sunday afternoon, and I'm thinking about bike builds - do you think this would work?
Anthem frame
Reba 120mm w/Maxle
Hope ProII
Elixirs
SRAM X7/X9
wideish bars - 700mm
70mm stem
The idea is to use a slightly longer fork/shorter stem to slacken it off a bit, making it good for steeper stuff/skills compensation, while maintaining a 4" travel bike for traction and comfort on long rides.
Would this work or is it too far from intended purpose?

Exactly how I run mine but with 95mm stem set quite high to protect my back. 100mm travel made the bike a bit front end biased on downhills or rough stuff which was tiring. 120mm works fine.
I think 2009 and 2010 built Anthems come with 70mm stems anyway. Also the bike rides like a charm with 120mm forks, I have Recon U-turn on mine while trying to decide if I want 100mm or 120mm on it so far I think I'd like 120 and going for a Reba as well. 100mm stem on mine but that is going for a 70mm. Great bike regardless ๐
120mm travel!!! WTF? IIRC Anthems are designed for 80mm forks. I was thinking I might chance it one day by putting 100mm forks on my 2007-8 example, but 120... erm ๐ ...can you do this without BAAAAD things happening?
Anthem Xs are 100mm travel bikes and take 120mm without a problem.
so a positive reaction.
I may have to move this to the next level: political household discussion.
cheers chaps ๐

...so presumably by the same logic, older Anthems (which are 80mm travel bikes) can take 100mm forks okay?
Something of a revalation for me, if it is true..!
Older anthems work fine with 100mm, in fact better than fine, they are brill.
100mm forks used to come stock on NZ specced Anthems rather than 80mm.
120mm would be pushing things on the older model methinks...
Before I bought my frame I read a lot and asked quite a few people and that was the consensus : Anthems have been equipped with conservative forks travel wise. They easily take an extra inch of travel on the front than originally equipped with and for plenty of riders it is a better choice too.
F120 and 70mm stem on mine.
Epic little bike ๐
