I bought Heaven and the answer based on a compilation, difficult to tell from the seconds you get of a sample on i tunes or amazon, any album suggestions please? Heaven especially is a work of genius.
Old but love the FEAR unkle remix. Fair bit to sample on spotify.
Psyence Fiction - an amazing album.
EDIT - If you like that you might want to try some Handsome Boy Modelling School..
+1 for PrinceJohn
A lot of the mix stuff is the same old stuff in a different order. The best of them, if you can get it, is 'Do Androids Dream Of Electric Beats?'
If you're into films, this is worth a listen:

Psyence Fiction is an amazing album.
Of the 'UNKLE as a band' albums I reckon War Stories is the best. They all been getting a bit samey for me recently - maybe I'm getting old.
edit: Handsome Boy Modelling School are certainly worth a listen. And I've heard Deltron 3030 are coming back
Another +1 to Psyence Fiction.
The best mix from around that time is the Scratch Perverts meets Unkle breezeblock session, you should be able to find that on Pearsontowers dot com
p.s. get some Dr Octagon on your turntable too.
The Time Has Come E.P. (1994) is a good place to start. First release I think..... It has a Great Sub bass solo IIRC. A great slice of early '"Trip Hop Baby!"' if not the UnKLe you know today.
It pre-dates DJ Shadow's involvement and has Tim Goldsworthy of LCD Soundsystem fame on Production duties.
Funnily enough I saw James Lavelle Walking out of a top London Restuarant last week, so he must be doing alright in these cloud based media times.
dj shadows an obvious one
psyence fiction and never never land are my fav unkle albums
NASA spirit of apollo is good
the evil nine
peeping tom
handsome boy modeling school
quakers
yet another +1 for Psyence Fiction. That's when Shadow locked himself in a room and came up with the album, James Lavelle just bankrolled the Unkle stuff really.
HBMS, So......Hows Your Girl? is fantastic, not so keen on the second.
Also have a look at Danger Doom or Madvillain (both the work of MF Doom)
Alias, Sage Francis, anything with DoseOne, but we're starting to veer towards something altogether different there.
Psyence Fiction is worth having just for this Richard Ashcroft/UNKLE collaboration alone. Buy it.
and this Thom York beauty too: (Slightly disturbing video, and original track doesnt have the ranting/dialogue)
thread of the week.. ๐
another vote for psyence fiction
Personally love all UNKLE albums - they're all pretty different and all great in their own way.
War Stories, Never Never Land and Where Did the Night Fall are a little bit of a surprise after the experimentation of Psyence Fiction, but still very good albums containing some fantastic songs.
A couple
And what's that triple album compilation thing I've got called? Thats fantastic. Will have to dig it out!
Love Unkle!
+1 Psyence Fiction & Never Never Land - try to get the extended edition (maybe US import?) as it has some great instrumentals.
Also, I really like Edit Music for a Film - especially the Bladerunner segment...
Proper underrated are unkle. Best albums are psyence fiction, get the version with the Ian Brown version of unreal ("be there") and I love war stories too.
Check out sixtoo, Alias and the godlike Buck 65. Much to enjoy.
Then check Solesides/Quannum Projects/Latyrx.
Higgo got me into them and I would agree that just lately they are a bit samey, having said that End Titles... Stories for Film is not bad.
Found some similar & free stuff by a Canadian group the other day, having a vague day so will have to check later
You've got to pick up Endtroducing, Organ Donor is just splendid ๐
I love all the UNKLE albums, as DezB says they're all pretty different but great. They're all must haves ๐
Two rarer and awesome albums, constant mixes rather than individual tracks are my favourites:
Edit Music for a Film: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Reconstruction
Do Androids Dream of Electronic Beats
Do Androids Dream of Electronic Beats
.."Electric" Beats... that's the triple CD thing isn't it?? Bloody amazing.
Jesus, people on this site have taste ๐
I've been a collector/ fan for year an have some pretty rare stuff.
Saw them at electric picnic last year - amazing live
+1 for whoever it was up there who suggested the Quakers.... Dunno how I cam to buy their album. Someone/somewhere must have recommended it, but it's really really good.
You might enjoy this mix:

Also worth checking out:
Archive - Londinium
James Lavelle - Live at Cream
Blockhead
Boom Bip
J Rocc
David Axelrod
+1 for doc octagon(kool keith).and handsomeboy too.
could try some DEPTH CHARGE too very entertaining(bounty killer, especially)
+1 for Quakers, there's an instrumental version if rap ain't yo thang.
"Electric" Beats... that's the triple CD thing isn't it?? Bloody amazing.
Yep, and I stand corrected after checking the ipod. I'm a long way away from the cds ๐
We used to find ourselves listening to a fair bit of Death in Vegas and David Holmes around the time we were listening to UNKLE..
Later Bomb the Bass stuff is in a similar vein...
Back to Light or Future Chaos -- which features the marvellous (and my ringtone before I got a stupid iPhone)...
[edit]First time I've seen that video. Marvellous ๐
I have seen Unkle live 6 times so far and every time has been amazing. I think Glade festival was probably the best of the bunch though. I wish Lavelle would DJ out a bit more often too. Used to see him play at Fabric years ago and it was always an eclectic ride.
Of course David Holmes, My Mate Paul was a top tune as was this:
I used to love stuff like this. Depth Charge, UNKLE, Dr Octagon, David Holmes etc all have pride of place in my record collection, but I must be getting old 'cos they don't quite do it for me like they used to.
Listening to "Do Androids..." right now to reset my musical barometer ๐
DezB - loving 'Butterfingers', it sounds a lot like Fujiya & Miyagi*.
OP - Fujiya & Miyagi are ace
*Edit: Wiki confirms featuring F&M
Yeah to lots of the above, Holonic by Dj Krush is amazing, as is Holmes' "Let's get killed" (and remixes in "Stop arresting artists").
I'll add Kruder & Dorfmeister's "K&D Sessions" to the must have list.
I still listen to the Mo'Wax Headz compilation (and the Ninja Tunes Funkjazztical Tricknology).
Can't link the vid on this computer, but my favourite tune from that whole bunch/time is the DJ Shadow 'Klub' re-mix of DJ Krush's Meiso - moody piano hip-hop!
This one noteeth?!
If you're heading into Quannum territory then don't forget
Or Solesides -
Bought, and am listening to P-fiction. At 44 I have been switched onto a whole new genre I had only dabbled in. Many many thanks to everybody who posted suggestions, I have bookmarked this page and will be working through them.
Psyence Fiction is terrific album
Endroducing by DJ Shadow
James Lavelle remix of Bittersweet Symphony.
A bit different but also good are Hybrid and Lo-Fi Allstars.
Head towards Cut Chemist (solo and with Shadow on Brainfreeze) and Dj Numark, naturally takes you go Jurassic 5
There was once an amazing website which was like a musical family tree / influences - was great for discovering new sounds related to favourites. I know last.fm etc do similar, but this was very visual and v.addictive clicking. Wish I'd bookmarked it.
Ooh, and grab some of the early Solid Steel mixes from Ninja Tune, awesome.
Back on Unkle, the remix of Dolphins were Monkeys by Ian Brown is well worth hunting down.
Edit: as is their F.E.A.R remix, and the Underdog remix of Unkles Be There:
If you do want to dig a bit deeper then it's worth checking out David Axelrod. He produced some amazing albums in the 60s and 70s which have been heavily sampled by DJ Shadow etc. Songs of Experience and Innocence are an incredible musical journey inspired by William Blakes poems, deep but beautiful stuff.
The Mo'wax Excursions were good. Shadow and the groove robbers 'in/flux'is often said to be the best trip/hip hop track of all time (if you can get around the folk arguing about it being hip hop or not!) When I heard it around 94 or possibly a year later I missed it first time around and was blown away by it.
I have a few of the Excursions on vinyl delving in about different genres. The one with 'io - Claire' was the techno excursion and it put to rest my thoughts on what techno was (going by the p*sh I was hearing on the radio) Fk me.. So good!
The others had twig bud,the groove robbers, chief excel,I think Olde scottish - wildstyle was on them. (great track)
My fav is probably :::reaches down for it!::: 'MW018' 12". R.P.M - 2000. A lot of these can be picked up on Vinyl for not a lot of cash and I'd buy them again in a minute.
If you do come across them, buy them. If you enjoy the suspense of what these tracks are like then it would be cool to hear them blasing out from a record deck and through speakers rather than real poor youtube recordings. They'll no doubt blow some of you away.
