Well, I did the Doctor's Gate / Cut Gate loop yesterday which was good but I'm knackered, and I started a bit late so light was failing heading back over to Derwent Reservoir.
Anyway, weirdest thing was towards the bottom of DG on the bridleway by Mossy Lea Farm there was a naked man sat hunched over next to a fully clothed girl.
Quite amusing but can't guarantee he'll be there next time, imagine the walkers I met further down who were heading in his direction would have been quite surprised...

Yeah, you've missed most of the best stuff, no question... The good news is that the OS mapping for the area was recently declassified, so you can now see exactly where footpaths and bridleways run. Until recently they were kept secret to prevent the Germans from riding all the good stuff if they invaded. Cabinet papers from the 1940s show that Winston Churchill pioneered a lot of all-mountain/freeride lite routes in that area, but of course, he had diplomatic immunity.

If your thinking there has to be more (legal stuff) than this for all the fuss the answer is sadly no. If your wanting more riding then come a few miles over the hill and look at Hayfield - Chinley - Marple area or go further affield to SW peak and Macc forest - Three Shires Head - Hollinsclough for lesser known riding. Stoney Middleton - Bakewell - Rowsley Chesterfield also has some good stuff in it as does Monsal Dale.
I feel another bikemaps.co.uk plug coming on, oh there it is.

Well, erm, there's a lot of mileage in linking stuff up differently. And less used routes, things like the back bridleway down from Hollins Cross into Castleton. Or variations on Dirtlow Rake, Pindale, etc. The direct drop from Mam Nick down to Edale. Chapel Gate is now climable, so you can use it as an express way to the top of Rushup, cross the valley from there and thread over to Dirtlow Rake, then ride that and Pindale etc.
There are only so many bridleways in the area, as OAP says, so mostly they're well used, but there are less well used variations around - on the opposite side of Ladybower from WLT for example, you can thread across the meadowy stuff.
Or you can get up the back of Hope Brink from the side of the reservoir. Or there are little variations, like the bridleway that loops over from the top of Ladybower through to the pub. Then there's the stuff dropping down from Stanage towards Bamford, which is a lot less used than the more obvious trails and the stuff on Stanage itself, which is ace.
A lot of routes round there ride well in either direction, so try reversing your normal route and see how that feels. And then there's the rest of it...

We did that yesterday - reversed one of our normal trails and it's just a different beast.
Or fluffy kitten, depending on your viewpoint.
Lots of riders out yesterday too. Good to see.
And every walker was friendly too.
