What does it for you? Throw us some tracks that embody all this and more… not necessarily for the lyrics (though could be part of it), more for sheer power and composition of the tune. Here are a few that do it for me…

Band of Horses – Funeral (Danny Macaskill 🙂 )
    Delirium – Silence (Tiesto remix)
    Sigur Ros – Hoppipolla

the cocteau twin’s version of siren song is possibly the best, but there are many.

And I have a collection of versions of down to the river, but this is my favourite

Lovely… see that’s the thing with properly powerful music; regardless of genre, language, style or anything else, it just is powerful and moving regardless… keep ’em coming folks 🙂

    Neurosis – everything
Crippled Black Phoenix – The Ressurectionists

There are lots of others, but these probably come closest to how I interpret what the OP is referring to.

    Ry Cooder – Paris, Texas

This honestly made me cry at Reading, and I couldn’t even tell you why. The power of the first bit topped off with the breakdown to piano just knocks me out.

Beautiful music, Ruska means the colours of autumn and you can hear the sadness. One of the most moving songs I know even without words.

oh, a big thanks to creg – i saw God Is An Astronaut a few months back, but had completely forgotten the name of them! very good live – wasn’t sure it’d work. they were touring with a band called something along the lines of Butterfly.. (Explosion?) who i only caught the end of, but by all accounts were better than the godly folk..

roll on someone making a spotify playlist of all this, good idea that man.
