So my old "do everything" bike from years ago - decided to put it back on the road. Gears were a bit dodgy so singlespeed it is.

Funny bars are from when I used to offroad on it ( on cyclocross tubs!) - drops inverted and cut off so easy access to brakes and nice and secure I did that after I crashed once when the brake hood broke off the bar.

I just cannot believe now I used to offroad this bike including some classic peaks / pennines stuff way back in the day

Too many brakes for my liking.
Is it plugged into the telephone socket?
What's that silver disc on the hub on the rear.. ? a chinese supper serving plate?

Jokes apart it must mean something to you so enjoy and convert it to fixed, roll your right jeans leg up and wear a flat cap backwards..and NHS glasses.

Have you been doing jumps on it and bent the front fork ?

Thats a cheap dirty looking carpet there.

Nice - not seen centre pulls for yonks ๐Ÿ™‚

You'll have someone's eye out with those levers though.

Its in the communal hallway not the flat ๐Ÿ™‚

It might be a shit heap now but once upon a time it was a nice bike. 531 frame ( with no bottle mounts braze ons of any kind), campag hubs and groupset, tubs etc. I got knocked off it by a car and bent the original fork so thats a cheapo replacement

Ah!!! Now it all makes sense. Would that be your first attempt at mountain biking as you've oft talked about.

Indeed Bikepawl - I was riding "roughstuff" on this in the 80s - although I started in the 70s on a different bike but this one was modified for the purpose with wide ratio gears. knobbly tubs and the inverted bars

Would the brakes not run better the other way arround pointing backwards?

Not really - cable run is better that way and your first 2 fingers - the strongest ones are on the long end of the lever. thats why I did it that way

TJ.
Those brake levers look like they could do some damage.

True, I'l admit I've never tried mine that way, I just stuck with convention and put the hoods at the end of the bars.

Nowt wrong with that, does the job.

Looks remarkably similar to what I did a summer couriering in that London on, although I only had a front brake, using an old DX lever, so the cable went under the tape. Same cut-down upside down drop bars too.

Again it was an old-school frame which was once pretty decent (mid 70's perhaps!) painted stealth black. Never needed to lock it, never went wrong, ideal for the job!

You could save some weight by removing the outer chainring though ๐Ÿ™‚

Cheers, Rich

Nothing like rebuilding an old bike you used to love.

Enjoy!

By the way, people suggesting using a Hoover, why not
just use a 'vacuum cleaner'. Hoover indeed ๐Ÿ˜‰

I got the paper this morning on an almost identical bike, except mine only has a front brake.
