Wierd that. On some things I’d go ‘mental’ whereas on something that gets lots of wet gritstone slop, stones banged up etc etc I really don’t see the point in spending anything close to ‘silly’
Assuming you are talking about bikes, and “gritstone slop” isn’t some ghastly euphemism, I agree.
I got my main bike in 2005 for £1300 and will keep it going until I kill the frame. Everything on it has been swapped out as it wears or breaks. A £3k bike wouldn’t make me a better rider. In fact the best upgrade I ever had was spending £80 on a skills day.
My SS is made of bits. The CX was a 40th present from the wife and the road bike was on Ride-2-Work.
