I`m off to Porlock / Minehead end October, riding Exmoor Beast road sportive Sunday. Would also though like to do a MTB route on saturday, say a 4 hr route taking in best of Exmoor...nice lunchtime pub stop would also be good! Could start either Minehead area or go up to eg Exford.
So what`s available? (had a great time last year in Peak District doing a sportive then MTB so want to repeat down SW ๐
thanks

just before Porlock, turn left to Horner. It's a few tea-rooms. Drive through, turn right to Dunkerry Beacon. Park on right after about 1k at Webber Post.
Up the hill a little bit more, opposite side to carpark, you'll find nice rocky singletrack, kind of heading southwards; full-on speed run.
You'll finish under some trees with a wall.
turn right, ride up Dunkerry.
this is an absolute shitter and will take about 1/2 hour til you get to the beacon.
this can also be a good downhill, but the gem is on the other side and will lead back to Webber Post. it's about 15 mins worth of dh, if there aren't too many walkers about.
go on the tube, type in 'dunkerry rocky road' and see the run.
however, you need to veer left after about 4 mins. you'll get more rocks and some sweet forest, plus it will dump you back at the carpark.
keep going through forest signposted Horner and do the switchbacks, then across the stream, through Horner wood, back to Horner.
Back to car,
Or, climb Porlock Hill, turn left at Porlock sign. Sweet-as at the top, gets too wide after about 1/2 way, though I think if you turn left at fire road, there's some trails in forest there.
do both in about 3 hours, loads of snap in Porlock and it's a nice place.
also looking for Exmoor routes - barzy38, looks good - anyone else?
Na no decent routes on Exmoor you wanna keep to the Quantocks and ride there.
Just get an os map. That area is riddled with good singletrack. The descent to the east off dunkery is good and then head west passed Something post and then wiggle around back to porlock. Ship inn does good food.
Hawk Combe to Porlock. Numerous trails flanking Horner Combe .
I wouldn't be doing a 4 hour Exmoor route the day before riding the Beast. Good on you!

Thanks :)--was fine last year with this sort of setup, Tour Peak District Sportive then next day 20 miler MTB around Kinder Downfall area.
Want to make most of the weekend away
Mmmm easy to follow classic
so what`s terrain like seems mix of woodland , singletrack or wide tracks, and moors, rocky?
It's all that and more.... don't underestimate how steep Exmoor can be either!
There's also a really good descent down off Selworthy Beacon down to Bossington too which is just slightly N of the route above.
