GF and I want to go bivvying in the next few weeks, but as it'll probably be our one and only time going (certainly for the next few years!) we were kind of hoping some nice person out there might be able to lend / hire us a couple of mats and bivvys?

if it's dry / condensation isn't an issue then a bivvi bag isn't needed (esp with a synthetic bag) and bracken etc can be more comfy than a ground mat... improvise, it's the ray mears way )

Its not a biggee (its us after all). We're starting from the Hollingworth lake visitor centre car park. We go up over to the White House, along the edge (bit cheeky) then the great descent through the pylons down to the conveniently located pub for post-ride cocktails. Not far. Two hours max (even with Hora)
I've also got an ultralight sleeping bag that is warmer than it has any right to be considering the size it packs down too. This has been used the grand total of once. Can you sense the feeling I never really embraced the whole bivvying thing

I have a bivvy bag and mat you can borrow, Royton, close to Hollingworth lake.
Also working in Leeds this week and commuting back via M62 so could drop off if you are near that route

less thank 15 miles you think? yeah, why not. I have an hour awarded at work for good behaviour, so I can always have a lie in the next day if I'm shattered.
Its definitely under 15 miles. Our night rides are always fairly leisurely affairs. Its a good route though. It'll be good to see you both - and any of your lot who fancy coming along as well. The more the merrier

you may get a good dry spell tho? - i just mentioned it as when it's dry i've been more comfortable w/o a bivi bag in the past.
a waterproof bivvi bag can cause more issues than it solves when it's dry and using a down bag - breath or dawn condensation on the inside of the bivvi bag soaks the down bag (like goretex getting wet from the inside from sweat) and reduces insulation.
basically a simpler bivi can be a more comfy one, so don't think that gear always makes it more cosy - well apart from a good sleeping bag anyway ) all this was said asuming you'd be going on a dry day / night as a first trip, to avoid the miserable time that biviing in the wet can be!

Binners - I'm still waiting for my gear to come back from Canada, I'm riding a touring bike which is ok for Boggies type rides but I wouldn't want to slow you down.
