Do you reckon a narrow enough 29er tyre could make the trails come alive?

The 27.5 is nearer than the 29, so you have to allow for perspective ๐Ÿ˜‰

Its got to be said, my mates norco made more sense when he put the massive Hans dampfs on it. But it didn't make as much difference as that PIC suggests.

The 29er is nearly a whole bike length ahead of the 27.5, you wouldn't need a photo finish to sort that one out, it's clearly a lot faster.

the difference in the wheel sizes is more pronounced on the further away shot. Up close seems to be distorting it a bit.

No worries, it just hasn't been photoshopped very well. The second one with the yellow bike (oops!) is a bit better, but the head is way too large for that body (which is Gee Atherton's, I believe).

There is definitely not a lot in it when you put a much smaller tyre (don't believe the numbers) on the 29" and place it behind the 650b bike. Funny enough that headtube on the 650b bike looks like it would be too big for the 29" too ๐Ÿ˜‰

Massive tyre closer to the lense appears almost as big as slightly smaller one further away shocker

The blue heckler is mine, ridden exclusively 26" until today. All I have to say is that wheel size doesn't matter one bit, but the smile on my face that just won't go away after today's ride does!

I have one bike with a 26" 2.4 high roller and another with a 650B 2.1 racing ralph. The difference in circumference for these is also negligible. The only difference I can see at the moment is that the racing ralphs will probably end in a slippery death for me due to the volume of mud around the Kent trails

I struggle to see why the same argument (which is inherently flawed) is made again and again. Try putting the same tyre of the same width on a (more or less) identical rim and then make your point.

Say for example a 26, 27.5, and 29 Schwalbe Racing Ralph on ZTR Crests at 30psi - then feel free to spout as much nonsense as you like.

Comparing different tyres on rims with different profiles is just stupid.

My 26" x 2.35 hans dampf measures 27.25 inches on a stans crest, can i join the 27.5" trail comes alive debate or does my lack of .25 of an inch mean i'm cast aside with all the other wannabe 26" riding freaks?.

Also, forgot to mention this, all the tyres should be the same width.

Can we actually get the measurements of a 26, 27.5 and 29 x 2.25 on Crests at 30 psi? Then we can finally put this stupid debate to bed.

Well if they are so similar we dont need 650b. There, solved.

I'm missing something.. A fat tyre on a small wheel is nearly the same as a thin tyre on a big wheel? What about a fat tyre on a big wheel and a thin tyre on a small wheel? Or a fat tyre on both sized wheels, or a thin tyre on both wheels?
Or both wheels with no tyres? Or both tyres with no wheels? Or no tyres and no wheels?

I think the point is... that a change of tyres makes a difference. If you want to go bigger, it might be worth trying a bigger tyre before changing your whole bike.

No surprise at all, but some people need it pointing out to them.

But a 26*2.4 tyre feels and rolls nothing like a 27.5*2.1. The amount of cushioning, tyre squirm, etc all leads to a very different feel. Not to mention one is a lot wider for the same height!

My 29 HansDampf on a 25mm internal width rim is 30.5"..but as stated previously, no point unless comparing apples with apples, and I'm sure they are all fun on a swoopy dusty trail in the forest on a warm sunny evening ๐Ÿ™‚
