I'm interested to know if anyone has yet found the issue that seems to plague many Pike owners.

I know many people have experienced the "top out knocking\clunking" and have returned their forks for warranty repairs, apparently in most cases the forks are repaired, part replaced. The question is what is it that causes it in the first place? It happens as far as I know on all variations.

Also please don't refer me over to the MTBR thread as the answer isn't on it.

My current theories revolve around high speed rebound circuit as it mainly occurs when at high speed over small rocks but rarely over smoother lumps or when cycling the fork. It could be something to do with the negative spring or possibly the charger damper needing bleeding but i am less sure about this as i think i'm right in thinking its only the compression that the charger deals with, which wouldn't really link to it being the charger?

Any ideas or anyone who has found out i would love to know

Mine was fixed after watching a short you tube clip posted on here a few weeks ago. In short, release all air from fork and push down, if you can't hold down deflated fork with 1 hand they have an air lock.

To fix, put a zip tie down the side of the wiper seal and push down so the tie enters the seal. There will be an air release.

Repeat on both sides. Re-pressurize. Go ride with top out and clunk free Pikes that feel amazing.

In short, there isn't an issue, or at least that's what Sram are saying. Mine have been back twice and have a much more pronounced top-out than about the five or six mates I have with the same fork.
I was told by the warranty folks and suspension servicing people of retailers i bought the fork from that this is normal.

I tried the zip tie down the seal thing. Didn't work.
I tried the letting all the air out and pulling the uppers out of the lowers thing. Didn't work.
I tried the warranty route.Didn't work.

I find it very irritating, I don't have faith in the fork and feel like I've wasted a huge amount of money, so if anyone can find an answer it would be great....

I'm interested in trying the Zip tie idea, a link to the vid would be great?

Kayak23, i know a few people who are on the verge of warrantying their forks, i was hoping to avoid it but its looking more like it will be the final option. I do however have an idea to send it to a suspension engineer who may be able to shed some light on the issue, perhaps even figure out a way to stop it happening

Well I've sent mine back to Fishers once(Via the original retailer) and they fixed the damper thingy that broke very, very quickly and said the top out noise was fine.
I then took them back to the retailer a second time after riding them for one day, after feeling that the topout was excessive compared to friends with the same model. The retailer sent them to their own suspension specialists, not Fishers, and they reckoned it was normal.

It does it much more than friends forks and I'm not impressed. If it doesn't resolve, I'm going to get my money back and probably get some X-fusion or something.. ๐Ÿ˜
