Our first batch of Daffs are dying off now. Later flowering ones are still going. Snowdrops dies off a few weeks back. Tulips are budding up nicely…

Saw my first woodland bluebells this morning. Happy days.

It’s a bit out of focus, but I took it with my phone, and the wind was blowing it around a fair bit, but this is the only one I saw actually open during a couple of hours wandering around West Woods, near Marlborough. Lots and lots of glossy green leaves among the trees, so there could be a pretty spectacular display, if we get some suitable weather.
Even the beech trees there are yet to show leaves.

Here’s a better pic of the only open bluebell in about a 200acre wood:

But at least the primroses and wood anemones are out:

Wow! West Woods, where I was Sunday, is a carpet of glossy green, but there’s nary a flower spike to be seen, other than the one I photographed, one just in front that was still buds, and one other several feet away that was showing hints of blue. I reckon it’ll be at least a week until there’s any significant blooms showing over there.

    Oooh, playing catch-up. 🙂

Fantastic pics there redthunder. 😀 Assuming that it’s Gloucs again?

Today I was riding on the Wiltshire/Hampshire border and not a bluebell to be seen. 🙁 Plenty of primroses, in fact I would say more than usual.

Edit: interesting weather today, bloomin’ cold and windy and there were virtually hailstones at the end of the ride.

This has sprung up in my back garden! Totally wild, it’s just appeared at the edge of the lawn by some paving slabs that make a short path to the bottom of what now passes for a garden.

That’s a cowslip, much liked by herbalists 8)

Off out looking for bluebells in FoD today, some of the best places have been well ‘rotovated’ by the boar so should be interesting to see how the bluebells fare…

Oh an actual bluebell 🙂 by Alex Leigh, on Flickr

Rubbish picture but an ACTUAL bluebell in our local woods (Herefordshire). Normally this whole wood is carpeted in bluebells by now. Still nice to see one.

You’re not wrong there, nothing quite like walking through a large wood carpeted in blue. Hopefully West Woods will be out in full very soon.
