18650 battery question!

need to get some more due to the wife washing mine 😡

mine are 3.7v 2500mAh and seem to only be able to find either 2400mAh or 3000mAh (or more!)

I am not an expert in electrics so have no idea what all this means!!

What would work and whats the difference???

the mAh number is how much charge they take – as long at the voltage is okay, no problem. Bigger number = longer life but also longer to charge.

Smudge does them here – mtbbatteries.co.uk his are 2400mAh (or 2.4Ah) and last ages in my Fenix torch.

your best off sticking to 2400/2500 mah batterys, them off smudge look good
some of those cheap 3000/3600 mah batterys dont like high output devices like p7 torches they get very hot and dont last long

The higher mAh ones are often physically longer. I think they have a little lump of circuitry at one end. They may not fit in your charger.

Surely the 18650 number means they must be a particular size? Just like AA batteries have a certain set of dimensions?

18650 are like an oversized AA.

It is a standard based on dimensions. They just don’t always stick to it!
The 3000mAh cells I’ve got are a few mil longer than the 2400mAh.

bw – that could be annoying!

I have noticed rechargeable AAs are a fair bit fatter than normal ones. had to take the “skins” off mine to get them into my Tesco AA torch!

I had to get another charger for them.. That’s how I noticed!
I would doubt the ones that claim more than 3000mAh anyway. You’d have to be a right geek to measure the capacity..
(Cue geeks saying they’ve got a graph to show us…)

Hi,
18650 actually refers to the cells dimensions 18mm width and 65mm high.
Most Lithium, Li-Ion and Li-Po cells are refered to in this way ie CR2032 20mm width and 3.2mm high,

Allways look at the small print especially on DX as they will say one thing ie 2500mAh but in the overview they are only 1800mAh cells ! see here

I now stock 2.4Ah single protected cells and twin chargers to match.
