Looking at installing a solar PV system.

The house we have moved to actually has a 3 phase electrical system, which apparently makes it fairly straightforward to install an 11kw system.

Does anyone on here have an first hand experience of such a large system?

Can anyone give a ballpark cost for supply and installation?

Just looking for a sanity check before I get quotes. Thanks.

Do you have space for that many panels?
No idea on the cost but just because you have 3 phase doesn't automatically mean the DNO will let you have an 11Kwp installation. You'll probs also need planning for that size.

Yes.

Apparently it does. The power limit is based on 3.68kw on each phase.

Apparently not. It's permitted development.

IIRC a few years back, the farmer I kept my horse with had 2x 4kW systems installed in the field. Each 4kW bank had 16 panels in it. IT took up a lot of space.

I think he was in the region of £12k per 4kW bank. ( but I could be wildly wrong with the £ value - it was years ago. )

I paid 7k for 4kW around 3 years ago. I'm sure it's now cheaper.

I thought I'd seen 3.6kw systems installed for about £4K recently, so should be around £10k if there are economies (scaffolding etc)

Not 100% sure on domestic installs but cost will probably be something like £900-£1,300 per kW.

You could pick up some bargain panels from bimble solar

Cool. I think you're looking at about £1k/Kwp.
Solar is great... I'd like to add some more. I've got a barn roof big enough for at least another 12Kwp plus I've got an unused 3 phase connection but I'm not sure if I could connect the PV to the 3 phase and yet still use the power generated in the house (which is on a single phase connection).

I'm guessing you could add at least another 7.4kw without involving the DNO?

From my research, increasing that would require DNO involvement and some kind of relay to avoid overloading the grid. All depends on your local infrastructure.

I've learnt a lot today and £1/KW seems to be the going rate.

I expect I'd need a completely separate installation so may not involve the DNO (based on your findings) as my existing installation is probably tied to the houses' single phase supply.
Probably all for nothing anyway as MrsSB would prefer a nicer car than more PV 🙁

Not really worth the cost involved.
