This week we’re catching up with Muddybum Bikes. We’re back to see what’s fresh with Ben, Sam and the gang…

Apart from the obvious… we’re all a year wiser, what’s changed in the last year?

Plenty. The opening of Bike Park Wales/Afan Bike Park/Garw Valley has made the South Wales a true mecca for MTB, especially due to the sunny summer! We’re personally been busy keyboard bashing, to create our rather fancy new website. We have picked up some exciting new brands – Evil/Nukeproof/Intense/Mavic pro dealer/Look (road bikes).

We are still buzzing about our Joel Moore winning the Welsh DH Champs at bike park wales! and more generally we’re excited about the new wheel size and the blossoming Gravity Enduro scene.

Lastly we have taken on new staff member Nick Pow, who has been running some ladies only MTB skills sessions (well, he is qualified!)

Any new lines in-store that really tickle your fancy?

Errr, that’s a definate yes. Apologies for the list but these are all stonking new bits of essential kit from our staff straw poll:

Mavic Crossmax Enduro wheels, Troy Lee A1 lid, the Whyte G150, the Nukeproof Mega TR 275, WTB Warden Tyres, Spank Oozy wheel set –(which are awesome value), Look s-track clipless mtb pedals, Rockshox Pikes, Endura Superlite waterproof shorts.

What’s been hot, product-wise this Summer?

In no particular order, Rockshox Pike, Crossmax Enduro, Troy Lee A1 and the Whyte T-129 s.

What’s your current best-selling/hottest product?

Renthal Fat bar Lites, anything with Spank written on it and anything with Whyte written on it!

What’s the score with demo bikes and custom builds?

We have a Transition Bandit 275 on the way and will be adding to that in the new year.  We have our annual Demo Day of pretty much all our brands on local singletrack at the beginning of April 2014. Exact date TBC but we’ll publish a story on here to keep you up to date with plans.

We can offer custom packages on pretty much any brand we stock that offer ‘frame only’ options. Already got a frame? No problem. We can also offer competitive component and wheel packages with hand built wheels if that’s your preference.

Any events that are worth the effort, travel and pain/joy?

Not had time to enter any this year, but we did watch our Elite rider Joel Moore smash his way to victory at the Welsh Downhill Champs at Bike Park Wales. It really was an awesome atmosphere with a fantastic crowd from all mtb disciplines, going wild for the racers. Brilliant!

Now for some crystal ball gazing. Where are we all headed; a fourth wheel size? The return of bar ends?!

Exciting times for MTB are ahead. The scene is growing again and with the development of more trail centres like Bike Park Wales, Afan and Cwm Carn, and the Gravity Enduro scene, the UK stands to produce so much more real riding talent. There is so much positivity in the sport at the moment. It is increasingly much more accessible.

People can have a go at the growing number of events/mini gravity enduro on their every day bikes which is great. Who knows, maybe even a hill climb event may happen and those bar ends might just make a come-back!
