DJI’s rumoured action camera, the DJI Osmo Action, has once again seen the light of day ahead of launch revealing new details. Here’s what we’ve learned so far.

DJI is set to release something on the 15th May, and as we reported last week, that something is supposed to be a GoPro Hero 7 rival that might be called the DJI Osmo Action.

Following on from last week’s news about the DJI action camera, more details have been revealed including a purported photo of retail packing for the new device.

Is this the real deal?

The image clearly shows a GoPro style action camera on the packaging named the Osmo Action in keeping with the recently released DJI Osmo Pocket and the previous Osmo gimbal products.

From the retail packing, the DJI Osmo Action differs from the GoPro Hero 7 thanks to an additional front facing screen making selfies easier and perhaps making this a perfect action camera for extreme sports vloggers.

The body of the Osmo Action also appears to have a front facing microphone, and the camera lens appears to be much larger than those found on the GoPro and similar action cameras currently on the market.

Renders appear to show dual screens on the DJI action camera.

Additional leaked images of the DJI Osmo Action clearly show a larger rear-mounted touch screen, separate power and record buttons, USB connectivity, and a battery compartment door. The retail packing also suggests that the Osmo Action will be waterproof and won’t need an additional case for use in wetter conditions just like the Hero 7.

As the launch for the DJI Osmo Action isn’t for another few days we can’t be 100% certain about the price or the specifications, however, sources close to DJI suggest the camera could support 8x slow-motion features and could record at 240fps. More specifications are listed below.

3 axis image stabilisation is also rumoured to be fitted to the Osmo Action, but at this stage, we’re unsure if the camera will feature traditional electronic image stabilisation, EIS, or mechanical stabilisation as found on the rest of the DJI range.
