  • Nick – I’m potentially after a smart turbo to make training more interesting…and am in Leicestershire.

Excellent stuff. Taking bike up the west coast of Scotland in May so hope to ride on Skye and Torridon. Any recommendations?

  • Sorted now thanks…after setting alarm off again this morning.
Different battery seems to have done the trick.

  • Your front tyre breaking through the icy crust on top of a puddle.
A Hope hub buzzing away – even better when there’s loads doing so at the same time.
    A 100psi 25mm road tyre on a smooth road at 25mph.
Scree being dislodged as you brake making a turn…

  • Not sure where the spare key is, which is helpful.
Changed like for like – CR2025.
Found the notch in the door handle and inserted key, turned…and bloody alarm went off – nice and loud too. I would have looked well dodgy with my head torch on fiddling with the door handle – maybe a few curtain twitchers but no one came out…who knows, maybe the…[Read more]

  • 13 plate Golf has been telling me to change the key fob battery for weeks, so just done it for first time. It was working fine…now it doesn’t work at all. New battery didn’t so swapped back to original which now doesn’t. Def in right way. Arses. Don’t want to dick around with it too much in case alarm goes off – not great at 9.45pm. Any ideas?

    Malvern Rider.
I might be in a minority here but I thought the Tom Cruise version was actually pretty good…a modern take on the book but at least it was faithful and dramatic. I was genuinely excited when I saw the Beeb were doing a version – I could not have been more disappointed. Terrible script, acting, effects, camera work and characters…[Read more]

I have no idea why I’m still watching it. Slow, dull, way too many hanging shots of Dimelza…actually glad it’s over. Shit, shit, shit. Might read the book again to erase the memory of this awful interpretation of a great story.

  • Thanks for all the tips…done a bit of reading up and at the mo it seems to be between Petzl Actik – 300 lumens and £28; GP Xplor PHR15 – 300 lumens and £35 and Alpkit Qark – 580 lumens and £33. All get good reviews. Popping into Blacks for a touchy-feely Sat. All will be way better than what I have without busting the bank…other things I need too 😉

  • Have an old Petzl Tikka Plus which doesn’t seem as powerful as it once was even with new batteries. The tech is pretty old now – maybe 10 years and wasn’t really that bright to begin with. Looking for a good replacement for general use, camping and in case a walk goes on too long – not for biking. Got £50 birthday money I could use – what’s my bes…[Read more]

  • I had a RF BB with my cinch Turbine cranks – pretty limited with replacement options due to the axle size – think it’s 30mm. Went for a Hope in the end – pricey but should last fir years.

  • To be honest I had no idea the van thing was such an issue – still quite new to this van lark. We went to Dumfries and Galloway in April (not had van that long then) and stayed for 6 nights – one in Kirroughtree car park…wrongly as it turned out as the guy in the bike shop said it was ok though the ranger said next morning we shouldn’t have, but…[Read more]

  • Craig – care to elaborate?
I’d like to think of myself as considerate and responsible…what are these ‘idiots’ doing that’s pissing everyone off?

  • After 2 years of not getting there, me and Mrs R will get there in the van sometime in 2020. Thinking of going up via Loch Lomond, Glencoe, Skye for 4-5 days, Applecross and Torridon. Plan on a mix of wild camping and sites but without necessarily pre-booking if poss. When does the silly season kick in, and those bloody mozzies? May a good shout?…[Read more]

  • Thanks all – some really useful tips in there. I’ll read through the blogs/links soon and have shared this forum post with the other guys too. It’ll def be the Peaks as not worth traveling to the Lakes just for one night…we don’t have to be miles and miles from a road/civilisation to get the essence of it…we all live relatively close to the P…[Read more]

  • A group of us fancy giving bikepacking a go – none of us have ever done it though. We’ve provisionally pencilled-in a Saturday night in May next year somewhere in the Peak – just a one-nighter to see if it’s for us. Plan is to have tea (or dinner depending where you hail from) to cut down the amount of weight to be carried.
    To those who are…[Read more]

Thanks guys. Some good shouts there…will def be in some of them tomorrow. Thanks for the heads-up APF – heard some of their fans can be a bit fruity – we won’t talk on the tram and we don’t wear colours – stealth mode 😉

  • rascal started the topic Ale pubs Sheffield in the forum Chat Forum 4 weeks ago

Going there on train tomorrow weather permitting.
Heading to Hillsborough to watch the Swans hopefully beat Wednesday!
Will go to the excellent Tap next to the station beforehand plus maybe one other nearby before getting the tram to the ground.
After game looking for some good real ale pubs no more than 15 mins from the station…any…[Read more]
