It took me around 5-6 months in Germany to get to a level where I was confident in going up to someone and talking to them.
First two months I attended a language school. Four hours a day, five days a week. Living with other students from all around the world, of whom only a few spoke any English.
I joined the local mtb group and rode with them…[Read more]
OK, hands up, I was wrong on the soya front.
As said before, very few of my meals contain meat. Zero home cooked meals contain meat. The GF has been vege since time immemorial.
Roast veg and salads, curries, stir fries, and soups make up most of my meals.
Having said that the GF is out tonight and a mate gave me a wild boar salami from her…[Read more]
T5 close to £100 of diesel and 450ish Miles.
Bloody hell, that’s about 26.5mpg! That’s shocking.
I drove the van from Stuttgart to Munich the other week and averaged 162kmh*… Display was showing an average for the trip (210km) of 15.7l/100…. That’s 18mpg!
* it was night, the roads clear and I had filled up earlier in Luxembourg.

I just wanted to echo this :
Your lad sounds like a solid bloke, tbf and with your encouragement will find something that will help him blossom, I’m certain.
You seem like a sound father!
A trade could be good, but as said above sites can be a dog easy dog world and the lads quite unforgiving.
I’m feckless and don’t have much to add.
Trainline had always been cheaper than Eurostar and Deutsche Bahn. In fact, it has the added advantage that you can book your whole journey on one website.
And… First class is often a few euros more and sometimes cheaper than second class… Booked a return for the next day from London to Munich for the GF after she missed her train by a while…[Read more]
The T5 has an 80l tank which means most fill ups are around the 100€ mark.
However, go to Italy or Switzerland and that can be nearer 130€ depending where you fill up.
Top tip…. Always fill up before the border! Or in Samnaun, tax free enclave in Switzerland near Austria/Italy/Swiss border…
Edit. Just looked at average prices for Eur…[Read more]
Don’t forget the new trade deal the UK signed last year with Fiji…..!
That power house of the Pacific crying out for British goods and the masses of coconuts they have ready to ship. They should be here within the next four months, just in time to avert the food riots.
My computer really struggles to edit video clips which is annoying as I’ve some good footage from holidays and japes that is sat there in the hard drive.
That laptop looks good if it is capable of editing 4K/1080 with dying.
I read that the Microsoft Surface something or other Was also a worthy candidate and has the advantage of being relatively small.
Loads of places will do single up lifts. Just ask.
Ultimate Bike Shop is generally a good place to start from as that is where the majority of shuttles start from.
You’ll also be able to tag along for a shuttle day. In fact, this is sometimes easier when on your own than when with a group.

I downloaded this the other day for the drive back to Schermany. Might be of interest to some….

I grew up in Furrock
Remember our history teacher, who I think was from Wales, telling us that the word thurrock, or furrock, was the term given to the bowels of a ship where all the crap collected. Not sure if it’s true or that was just his snide way of saying that Thurrock is a shit hole, but needless to say he didn’t much…[Read more]
If it were the puzzle kind I might be interested. Given it’s the uppy-downy noisy type and it’s from aldi, I’ll pass.
Might be good for the very occasional cut, but generally with tools the old manta “buy cheap, buy twice” holds true.
Meatless Meat Company
I’ll say it again… If you want to not eat meat accept that meat alternatives do not look out resemble meat.
The soya industry is killing rainforests and the processed quorn type foods are full of salts and other crap.
GF is vegetarian and has been for over 20 years. As such I don’t cook meat at home. I do have a wild…[Read more]
If everyone stuck a badger cull or extinction rebellion sticker on their family car I wonder if they would get pulled over?
Having said that, they who plastered his car with Bollocks to Brexit for pulled over and told to remove them by an overzealous copper.
I feel this is a slippery slope, including the likes of Sea Shepherd, Greenpeace and…[Read more]
I don’t understand this idea that vegetarian food has to resemble our taste like meat.
Accept that if you are not going to eat meat then the food you eat won’t taste like meat.
Having said that, my GF was very sceptical of Glamorgan sausages one time. It took some effort on the waitress’ part to convince her they were not some type of quorn alternative.
I grew up in Thurrock. My folks went up market and moved to Chelmsford where my mum grew up.
About 90% of everything south of the A127 is shite. The good bits are the marshes, because no one lives there. The far end of Essex towards Foulness feels remote.
Is it worth making an extra journey there from elsewhere in the UK? No.
Leigh on Sea is…[Read more]
Awesome work! Surprised this almost passed me by, but I’m glad I spotted it.
And timely, too…
Need to sell my T5 LWB as I’ve out grown it. Too many compromises regarding storage, cooking, sleeping, parking up with the roof up and obviously the bikes.
Currently looking at Ducatos. Across the border in Italy they are about 5-6K…[Read more]
