    Oh my fucking God.

That’s horrendous. Not just a bona fide musical genius (a term easily applied but completely accurate in his case) but a genuinely lovely man as well.

I’ve had so many wonderful nights thanks to him.

Many many years ago I used to work on the door at Glasgow’s Sub Club where he played regularly. When I worked there, every time…[Read more]

Always thought a Senor Coconut cover would be ace but I don’t think they did it.

  • Want the chiefs, think it’ll be the 49ers.

Their anthem’s amazing, why do they have to go in for that hideous over-singing?

  • If you start The Wicker Man Final Cut version at 21.32 tonight you can replace the 11pm Brexit triumphalism with the sound of the islanders singing as they torch Sgt Howie.

Thanks! Lived in Glasgow my whole life but never explored anything close to home. Moved to lenzie recently so quite local to the campsies and want to get out see what off road loops I can do without traveling too far.

Hey neighbour – have you explored up Lennox forest yet? There’s a bunch of gravel tracks up there that you can put together a…[Read more]

  • This is an interesting situation to consider:

What I can’t assess is whether Gaz from sales is tired from being up all night playing fortnite, is now late for his photocopier convention and is texting his colleague whilst doing twice the limit on a blind bend

If I’m on my bike travelling in the same direction as Gaz from sales, that feels r…[Read more]

Generally think mine (14 and 11) are alright. although for lifelong vegetarians there are more vegetables on the proscribed list than I’m happy with. Given the choice, they’d each eat a bucket of plain cooked pasta every night but they’d end up with scurvy or rickets or something so we’re not doing that.

I think there’s two fronts to the battle -…[Read more]

  • I love The Dollop, its an American (and elsewhere) history podcast by two comedians, can be very very funny, big archive. The Disco Demolition Night one is amazing.

When Saturday Comes is fairly new – if you were a fan of the fanzine then it’s pretty good.

Similarly, if you were a football fan in the 90s then Quickly Kevin Will He Score can be…[Read more]

  • For wheels, I’ve a couple of sets of Stans Crest built on their 3.30 SS hub and another set built on a Hope trials hub. Both of these use a micro-cassette freehub body, onto which I use Gusset double-six sprockets and a couple of spacers to get the chainline spot on. Neater than a conventional freehub setup but 135QR.

The Hope hub feels (and…[Read more]

  • Until very recently I only had singlespeed MTBs for well over 10 years.

For the last 4 or 5 years I’ve raced XC on exactly what you’ve described – a ‘spanky fast’ XC singlespeed. I went east for the frame and bought an unbranded Chinese import 29er carbon frame with a PF30 BB shell and regular vertical dropouts. Cost about 300 quid or so. Wheels…[Read more]

  • Switch on a draglift only when the base station is set up so that normal would be awkward, which isn’t often.

I’m right handed & footed, for skate and snow I’m goofy, comfortable riding and landing switch but don’t do it unthinkingly, if that makes sense. For bikes my left is my chocolate foot. Trackstanding I could stand all day chocolate foot…[Read more]

I haven’t bought it in a very long time but it’s reassuring to know it’s out there. Howay pet, do you like fruit?

  • If you can’t trackstand properly then I can’t really respect you as a rider.

Disc brakes on road bikes look bad, no matter the bike.

My wife is scathing about people who rode with their knees sticking out and I love that.

You will notice his lack of brake there, he know’s what he is doing.

Dude’s saddle is on backwards and his socks don’t look UCI compliant to me.

Beast of a gear he’s riding though.

Why would a lifelong Labour voter be reading the RW press? Mirror, Socialist Worker, Guardian, Independent are all available or if they want straight unbiased reporting just stop reading papers and choose an approprite news media. Christ, most RW people don’t read the RW press why would LW people be?

Similarly slightly stumped. Want a new fixed for daily duties that can go anywhere.

Current daily commuter is a pig-iron chromoly frame picked up from a friend when my Crosscheck frame corroded just a bit too much to be comfortable with. Clearance is only just OK. Truth be told I never totally took to the Surly – it was certainly much better when…[Read more]

Longtime SS-er here. Until v recently all my off road bikes were SS. Random observations:

1 1/8 chains are for fixed and BMX, overkill for MTB & CX, 3/32 chains (8/9 speed) are what you want.

If you just want to try it out for cheap, pick the approx ratio you want from the setup you have and ziptie your shifter, see how it goes.

    If you want to…[Read more]
