I’m curious too, what brand of spokes? How deep is the rim?

  • I found that after too long riding drop bar bikes NOTHING cures the numbness and tingling, it’s like you just need to keep doing a certain number of hours a week on the flat bars or lose the ability to endure any time on them…

I’ve got my SS set up with an old Rotor oval ring. Have only pedalled round block but it was fine. Plenty of reports of it being done successfully also.

TBH what’s going to happen even if it states that the Tory party was bankrolled by the Russians

“You lost, we won, get over it!” etc.

Pointing out any corruption of British Democracy is now just sore losing apparently.

L(er)CH(er)F has been useful in controlling that.

I compensated for less pasta with moar Parmesan, does that count as L(er)CH(er)F?

Since we’re talking sustainability, weakness etc. what do the low carb/keto dieters do when they have a wobbly and just want to scarf that 4-pack of sickly sweet ‘Tesco Finest’ white chocolate cookies? Or for that matter, when they just want some nice crisps to go with that tasty IPA on a Friday night?

I guess if you’re not trying to achieve…[Read more]

  • Correct, the 260tpi tyres AREN’T tubeless.

Not fussed on tubeless, will be changing tyres often so can’t be doing with the mess and faff. Have enjoyed some big gravel rides to-date just with tubes.

Guess I was just curious if anyone could compare the clincher construction to the VTLR construction, weight difference is naff all, so it boils down…[Read more]

Paton, I’m pretty much near referring you to the mods for Trolling. Either express an opinion on ANYTHING…but for **** sake stop the endless linking to articles and you tube its tedious to the point of piss taking. It’s a discussion forum FFS.

Ha, I’ve been tempted to say the same in the past but in fairness, if you don’t want to watch the links…[Read more]

  • I think I’m getting my head around Challenge’s nomenclature, although it’s not helped by shops muddying the water with their descriptions.

First of all, aren’t all tyres ‘clinchers’ unless they’re tubulars?

I think I’m comparing the ‘clincher’ model (260TPI, tan wall, 355g) to the VTLR model which is a lower tread count, marginally (e.g.…[Read more]

Vegetable oils containing high concentrations of omega 6 fatty acids

Ha, as soon as I read that I thought to myself I BET olive oil is high in omega 6.

    Happily Google suggests otherwise.

I still struggle with the idea of omitting ‘natural’ carbs like potatoes, rice, porridge (granted the oats have been processed to a degree) when surely…[Read more]

Thanks Kryton – that’s a good list. Wholemeal toast is good, I just found it difficult when calorie counting, one slice wholemeal toast with butter blew threw a lot of calories for not much filling effect!

    Bacon? Sausages?

I think I have absorbed far too much general dietary chatter over the years to believe that bacon or sausage can play any regular part in a healthy diet!

Anyway, even boiling eggs takes too long and is too messy for my average weekday morning routine. I think I’ll just need to build a ‘diet’ around the fact that I’m probably…[Read more]

Also, where would, e.g. a tin of Baxter’s Scotch Broth sit on the spectrum? 28g of carbohydrates, so would that still be compatible with a low-carb diet?

I’m not interested in following a diet as such, but am interested in adjusting life-style in the right direction!

I doubt I could ever commit to keto, even if I wanted, but do really want to cut carbs.

What would be a convenient keto-lite / low carb breakfast strategy? Am guessing porridge oats don’t feature in keto. What about fruit, is there a right and a wrong sort of carb?

Don’t want to just live on eggs for breakfast!

Have just spent the last 2 months injured building my ‘dream’ bike.

    – I didn’t enjoy building it (it’s still not finished)

    – It came out heavier than the spreadsheet said it would (surprise surprise…)

    – I think it’s the wrong size

    – I can no longer build wheels and now have a very expensive handbuilt front wheel which is somehow off-centre…[Read more]

  • What are you doing the nights before?

My recent 6 month lower back ordeal was the result of stepping up my training on the bike without doing the necessary strength work e.g. was hammering away on the turbo but because glutes were weak my lower back was having to do a lot more work than it should, resulting in low back pain, stiffness and…[Read more]

Facing an interesting drive home to Edinburgh from Oban, just debating which oft-landslipped Glen to drive through, Glen Ogle or Rest-and-be-Thankful…

  • Have just done some research, surrounded by hairy big road climbs, normally I’d be delighted, but since this will be my second week back on my bike after rehab from a discectomy, perhaps I should be leaving the bike at home… Such a waste!

  • Riding-wise….going to Whinfell?

Good riding near Whinfell you say? It’s become a tradition of ours that whereever my wife books a holiday, I’ll manage to find an excuse to take my bike.

First time at CP coming up, I just went along with whatever my wife wanted to do, but based on previous all-inclusive trips, I think it should be a success, d…[Read more]

Have just taken a chance on alloy nipples for the first time, anodised blue Sapim to be exact.

Think I read an impartial review which said they were made of harder alloy than ‘standard’ and the coating also helped stop them seizing. To be safe I used copper anti-seize on the spoke threads. It’s something I’ve always done anyway so wasn’t any…[Read more]
