Press Camp is currently under way in the States and all sorts of nice new shiny things are coming out of the bike industry’s woodwork. Here’s the basics on Pivot’s new Vault – one of the ‘new breed’ cyclocross machines.
UPDATE – PRICES
UK distributor Upgrade has waved its magic calculator over the US$ prices and reckons the new Vault should retail at £2,200 for frame, fork and headset.
It looks like the Vault ticks all the right boxes for a ‘gnarmac’/’all-road’/’adventure’ bike – whatever you want to call it. Thru-axle fork and rear dropouts, internal cable routing, disc brakes with decent rotor ratings (160mm max rear, 180mm front), and a lower bottom bracket, shorter chainstays and increased tyre clearance over traditional geometry – all present and correct. There’s also size-specific carbon layup to get the best out of the ride quality, and an oversize BB386EVO bottom bracket, which Pivot claims delivers “increased torsional rigidity, higher frame strength and better power transfer“.
Chipps is out at Press Camp at the moment, so hopefully he’ll come back with more info.
