I’m not in the market (though my other half wishes we’d bought an e-cargo bike) but I think I would try to prioritise availability of repair over reliability anecdotes.

The right is now splitting in at least three directions: Conservative; Reform; and Labour.

I think Stansted deserves a mention for how it has deliberately been made worse.

Bought 1040 bags of Yorkshire tea for £19.99 last year off the big river, now it’s £35.

    Had they no Barry’s? Desperate.

…and one with a thinner wall for some centre lock hubs where there’s a slightly smaller gap between the lock ring and the hub end caps than in a typical free hub.

Email content was also available for those who use in-browser mail clients (and for whom the pre-filled response likely won’t have worked): https://www.bicycleassociation.org.uk/eapc-consultation/

Windows Phone 8 was briefly the perfect phone OS before Microsoft did a Microsoft of the era move and destroyed it after trashing everybody’s trust in the platform.

Map-based search for services with user reviews is already basically a commodity with many incumbent providers amongst the major tech companies. I don’t think there’s any niche here that they won’t just take from you with their established user bases and established branding and trust.

Sounds like a nice little earner for the UK. How much is the Irish government willing to pay?

Humorists in Ireland are suggesting the government should fast track citizenship and pay their return fare to Britain with their new Irish passports in hand.

Rishi’s declaration that causing problems in Ireland is a measure of success really isn’t going to go down well there, is it.

Going from a bad or old chamois to nothing might well be an immediate improvement, in my experience of worn-out and cheap shorts. Going to a good comfortable chamois instead is for me a bigger improvement though. I mostly wear jeans for utility cycling, commuting, and running the kids around on their bikes, and started my own mountain biking largely in army surplus cargo trousers, so a chamois is by no means necessary. It’s just a personal comfort thing.

If they’re willing to add them to a contract and expect employees to sign that contract they may also be willing to cause employees and ex-employees grief whether they’re enforceable or not, in the knowledge that they probably won’t ever get punished for that grief. Unenforceable terms in employment contracts in the UK are in my experience both very common and a big red flag signalling a likelihood of drama when joining any company. Both companies with non-compete clauses in their contracts that I have worked for were pervaded by terrible attitudes to people extending from the top of the company and multiple instances of absurd drama including abrupt firings, inept failures at constructive dismissal, and more.

Shetland ponies are almost singularly inappropriate for the commute and should never have been eligible for the Horse to Work scheme.

They have a significant sale on at the moment which they’re publicising so it’d seem unlikely that they’re also binning stuff. 🤷

Not necessarily. Sales and destroying stock are both ways of maximising the return on what you hold.

Given the immediate possibility of wrecking their vehicle by wrapping it around a pedestrian doesn’t put selfish people off driving like arses, I really don’t see that the gradual cumulative wear and tear of whacking over speed bumps at speed does much to slow them down either. I have speed bumps outside my house and am treated to the sound of scraping car undersides and all the rest hourly: all speed bumps do is create unnecessary noise and wear and tear on vehicles. There’s simply no substitute for enforcement of reasonable norms for driving with actual likely consequences.

80€ is cheap to protect your eye though.

    Cheap protection from brand snobbery.

Kongo Country is definitely worth a visit, and I loved Vine Valley. Get Rambo to show you around. Keep an eye out for King K Rool’s crocodiles though.

edit: sorry. Never mind – wrong Kong. Have a great trip anyway.

I can bet that in most cases the ‘local people tell James Daly their top priorities’ feature will mainly have been ‘get rid of you’

Funnily enough, I was just about to search for a postcode in his constituency to propose some priorities on behalf of one of my noms de plume to the link in the qr code.

(You might also have a preheat on your boiler which keeps a small quantity of heated water on hand in case you want it – I think many have disabled this in these days of raised gas prices though.)

Water in the hot pipes between your boiler and taps is pressurised and above the height of the tap through which you are draining the system. It’s not going to stay that way through magic. It will flow to lower pressure. Is your boiler heating it as it flows backwards through it, or were you using hot water so that you had freshly heated water in your hot pipes? I usually try to turn my boiler off before shutting off the water, just in case bad things might happen.

I have a couple of pretty spendy Osprey ones and find them comfortable on long runs. The bigger one was handy for run commuting as I could squeeze in a laptop and office clothes. The smaller one is enough for carrying the necessaries when I’ve done running events that required that, or just water, gels, and layers at other times.

The bike shop clearly think the customer is a soft touch to let them get away with handing back a frame they’ve possibly ruined. Why didn’t they check the bb shell first if it seemed off, and face it if appropriate? It needs to be square for external bearing cups anyway. It’s bad enough if they’ve not noticed a defect and made things worse by forcing a tap in squint, but if they’re slapdash enough to do that they’re easily slapdash enough to ruin the threads in a perfectly straight frame.

Has any country had success in unbuggering any public subsector to a comparable extent?

Postwar Britain: health, and housing? Probably education too, though I’m not that familiar with what that was like before, comparatively.

No mention of front mechs? 1x means huge gear gaps and a stupid extra-heavy extra-costly cassette hanging off the rear axle making the bike more ponderous and less fun.

Thomson. The several I’ve had have been faultless for me, in stark contrast to probably every OEM post I’ve had the misfortune of adjusting after some use. A couple of Ritchey posts have been OK for me too.

I think credit is due to alexpalacefan for not only sticking to his principles but doing so so publicly.

Personally, I stick to the politics threads to avoid wanting to commit genocides when the e-bike ********* keep trying to invent new names for bicycles in the bike threads.

It’s Paris-Roubaix, it’s sort of the point, no?

I dunno. For me 180 dead stop chicanes where the peloton will be braking on a railway crossing is pretty far from the point of Paris-Roubaix. Could they not have brought the route in along the road the other way and had a 90 right turn into the forest instead? It’s telling they announced this three days before the race: it’s half arsed at best.
