if you get there before the car park shuts your ok, they have automatic exit barriers
No doggers
Trails are way marked – but theres still plenty of off piste stuff – if you want a break from the unrelenting cobblestones…
zingerFree MemberThey do and its in the sale they are currently having and comes in Large, Black/Yellow with “free” Pike forks according to their earlier FB post
Its sold 8-(
zingerFree Member“As with most bikes/frames call your local SC dealer, they will call the importer and ship one to you in exchange for cash.”
Santacruz dont have them in stock anymore – I was wondering if anyone had seen one on display in a shop somewhere gathering dust
zingerFree Memberpedalcover only require that your bike is locked to a fixed point in your car or outside of car with a cable lock – nothing specific about what type of lock
zingerFree MemberPedal Cover (House Insurance) – I’ve got 15k of bike insurance outside of home(bikes have to have at least a cable lock attaching them to inside of car)
insurance was half the price of my old policy with named bikes with RSA
zingerFree MemberThere will still be snow in mountains around denver
IMHO Fruita / Grand Junction is well worth the trip from Denver
The trails are great – 18 road trails are smooth fast rolling singletrack – they have recently added some trails with gap jumps etc as well
If the snow has cleared from the top of the book cliffs the edge loop is a nice big loop – at one point you have to lower your bike down a cliff on ropeThe Kokopelli trail system is also great if you do all the trails theres around 40 miles of singletrack to ride there -more rocks here (moore fun is very techie) and great views
Also you have the trails down towards rabbit valley – theres a nice big lop ride called the zion curtain down that way
There the Lunch Loops in Grand Junction – which are a more technical than the above
Also you have the pallisade rim trail in Pallisdaes which is worth doing
I’ve often driven straight to Fruita from Denver (Just make sure you check the traffic when you are heading back to denver – as the freeway from silverthrone to denver can get very congested at weekends)
Check out my website for some of my trips out Fruita way
i’ll be out there again at the end of April – looking forward to it !!
Theses sites have lots of info on the riding down that way

http://www.mtbproject.com/directory/8007558/grand-junctionzingerFree MemberI bought a bronson a few years back in Crested Butte USA, after my ellsworth frame snapped while on holiday out there. I registered with sata cruz usa for warrenty.
I had to deal with SantaCruz USA directly to get the frame replaced, as Jungle in UK couldn’t deal with a frame bought overseas.
Asides from having to pay the postage + Import Duty + VAT I was happy with the service I received from Santa Cruz – As they no longer had the same color frame in stock as my broken frame i got a brand new complete frame from them.
I’ve not tried doing anything with bearing yet – so not sure if i could send those to jungle in uk
zingerFree Memberi emailed them about this a few months back and they said it was the older gold version
zingerFree MemberI use an old car cover cut down to size – i just wheel the bike onto the cover , pull edges up and over to cover the bike up, it’s water proof so inside of boot stays dry no matter how wet the bike is
Something like this would probably do the job
zingerFree Memberon our last trip to nz we flew with Air New zealand and had no problems with substituting our bike bags for an item of luggage – we went via LA as you get 23KG per bag flying via USA , if i remember rightly if you go via singapore or other far east countries you get less allowance
If you do go via USA make sure you have at least 6 months left on your passport – i didn’t and almost didn’t get to fly home 8-;
Both our bikes survived the trip both ways with no damage with Air NZ
zingerFree Memberyep i was up there last Friday night, and the loggers are going out of their way to remove the bike trails over winterfold way
zingerFree MemberI had BB5 which I really didnt like compared to my mtb hyrdo brakes
Upgraded to TRP Spyre mechanical which were much better
But recently upgraded again to these
Juin Tech R1 Hydraulic Cable Pull Disc Brake Set Red
Which are lighter and better than the spyre
zingerFree MemberI’ve had no problems with them – but if i recall correctly you do have to pay for returns / warranty returns – Note : bikediscount do free returns for items over a certain value & free warranty returns – so in my opinion are a better German company to use
zingerFree MemberThere’s not a great deal of clear stroke, i sent the seller an email asking about the pistons as they stick out by a few mm even before you connect the cables up – but have been told thats the way they sit.
So you need to make sure your rotors are pretty true (The ones provided were dead true) – And I’ve got mine set up with no rotor rub at all
I managed to get it spot on using some thin bits of cardboard stuffed up between the rotor and pad’s with brake on while i tightened each bolt a little at a time, as on my frame the caliper wanted to pull over to one side as i tightened the bolts.
“Brakes ome a lot stronger” – should have read “Brakes are a lot stronger”
zingerFree MemberBased on your review i bought some , I went with the red ones 8-) – great brakes a big upgrade from the TRP Spyre brakes i previously had. Brakes ome a lot stronger than the spyre
zingerFree Member+1 on the Juin Tech R1 brakes replaced try spyre brakes with them – much more powerful and lighter too
zingerFree MemberI originally had BB7 which came with bb7 which were bad with the continual rub on one side, luckily they broke and were replaced under warranty with some TRP spyre brakes by specialized. The Spyre were much better – no more rubbing but did not feel that powerful compared to mtb hydo brakes, have just switched oveer to the Juin Tech R1 cable / hydro brakes and they are fantastic !! Really strong modulated braking now much better than the old cable spyre brakes – same feeling in braking i get from my mtb full hydro brakes
zingerFree Membermerlin have them in stock and 10% off shimano at the moment, bought mine so happy to post now before they all disappear
zingerFree MemberI’ve got DT Swiss E 1700 Spline Two 27.5″ wheelset at a good price from bikediscountde – and so far its proved to be a great wheelset i’ve done 1500 miles on them so far and they are still dead true, and bearings are running smooth – unlike the cr*p expensive mavic crossmax wheelset i made the mistake of buying before this wheelset.
They coped well with 450 miles of rocky riding in Arizona, Utah and Colorado back in April
Only issue i had with them was mounting my bontrager sl4 tubeless tyres was a bit tough, I had to infalt an inner tube over the top of the tyres to inflate the wheels without leakage – but ever since I mounted them they have been perfect.
zingerFree MemberI had a ks integra which was great – until it decided to spew its oil down my seat tube took 3 months before i got my money back after failed warranty repairs , I’m back to using my 99% dependable gravity dropper – only thing thats ever gone wrong with that in 5 years of use was the levers cable snapped – and I was able to swap that my self in less than 5 mins..
zingerFree Memberif your hubs are 9mm then lock rings would go with rotors
But if your hubs are any larger than 9 mm its a special lock rock which would have come with the hub – as catfishsalesco said the lock rings that come with hubs are tightened using a bottom bracket spanner, where as 9mm hubs lock rings are tightened using a cassette tool
zingerFree Memberits one of the down hills from the top of surrey hill (The labyrinth), instead of taking the red left down the hill head past the big wooden map post (without map) and then its the 2nd left.
jakeyo1 – you need to try and get some air on that trail looked like your wheels were glued to the trail :-)
zingerFree MemberVote for gravity dropper classic from me – I’m still using a 27.2 4″ drop multi thats 6 years old , and the only thing thats gone wrong with it is the cable snapped at the lever end (and even then i was able to get the post to go up and down by pulling on the cable until i got back to my car and my spare cable – which i was able to easily fix my self. The great thing about the post is its totally mechanical no liquids to leak or complicated innards to go wrong.
On my newer bike with a 30.9 post i briefly made foray to the darkside and got a ks lev integra post , which was great while it worked then 2 months into using it , i rocked up to catch my shuttle to do the whole enchilda in Moab and found oil spilling out of the bottom of it – luckily enough i had planned for this eventuality and was able to pull the integra out and take my spare gravity dropper post up to 11000 ft and then put it together up there to enjoy the ride.
No more complicated air / hydraulic seatposts for me…
zingerFree MemberI couldn’t resist the temptation to get a 2013 Epiphany frame sst2 + ctd kash shock for £500 :D which i’ll be upgrading my old mk1 epi with, shame i’m not in the market for a 29er as the complete bikes are pretty cheap
zingerFree Memberi did a XC MTB trip out to cananda back in 2008 – check out my trip report here, which may give you a few ideas
zingerFree Membertheres a letter on the letters page of this months mbr where someone is saying they have used the t-rex with 9 speed and a 1mm spacer
you could use one of these to stop chain slapping around too much

zingerFree Memberthey are nice until a spoke breaks on your rear wheel , and your wheel goes so badly out of true it wont turn as it hits your frame..
In a word unless you like walking for miles after a spoke breaks – avoid like the plague…
zingerFree MemberOn my bronson I bought one of these and then took off the bash guard and cut off the tabs that held that on.
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/mrp-xcg-triple-chain-device/rp-prod31508
As when the chain did come off it got wedged down in the ISCG-05 tabs-which was a right pain ..
Now my chain never drops off onto bbshell area
zingerFree MemberI use one of these – very secure mounting – gps has never come out
http://www.rammount.com/mount/garmin_oregon_mount.htm
Note : I did modify the mount by drilling some holes in the section on the bottom of the mount to put zip ties through to secure it to my bike
zingerFree Memberjust got from a night ride in the surrey hills
You could see all the dust particles in the air illuminated by lights
And I’ve now got a sore throat and cheat feels a bit rough
Feels like when I rode in smog conditions in Phoenix one year when they had a temperature inversion which held in all the pollution and dust.
Not pleasant, Hopefully I wont die… But its not raining and the trails are dry so they have to be ridden
zingerFree MemberAs your not “downhillers”I’d spend at least a couple of days over at chilticon’s – if your looking for epic singletrack that’s the place to be
I drove over there and stayed at the tayx resort and did a couple of great rides over there – including the float plane trip up to warner lake
The riding was epic – but too be honest was also bl**dy scarey riding on your own with all those Grizzley bears !!
Check out my web site for the ride I did up at Chilticons and around whistler
zingerFree MemberI wouldnt buy another mavic road wheel I had a cassette side rear spoke go on a ride on Mavic Kysirium, and ended up having to walk 10 miles home as the wheel went out of true by at least 3 cm’s !!, so the wheel wouldnt turn in the frame
zingerFree MemberUniversal Cycles – Sign up for news letters for coupons usually 15% off each month when you spend a certain amount
Only issue is your sister will have to buy with US card as if you pay with non us card you have to collect from portland storeCambria Bikes
Beyond Bikes
But unless you are buying stuff made in USA i.e. Fox, CK etc you will find most stuff is more expensive in USA than Wiggle , CR etc
In fact my mates out there buy most of their bike bits from ChainReaction …
zingerFree Memberif they are less than 3 years old send em back under warranty
The new XTR pedals are known to be made of swiss cheese – and I’ve had 4 pairs so far under warrenty….
zingerFree MemberIf they are less than 3 years old send em back under warrenty – i’ve had 4 pairs so far – and I just ride mincy XC trails – the new XTR pedals really arnt as good as the old XTR were – I’ve still got some 6 year old XTR pedals going strong….
zingerFree Memberno , if anything you get more abuse from to**ers in cars shouting out the window as they go past you a hairs width from you and your bike, on a 56 mile ride today i was shouted at 6 times and nearly knocked off once
Road riding in england does suck – but at least its better than slogging though all the mud we have at the moment..
zingerFree Memberbl**dy sidi have not made any srs parts since febuary 2011
So you’ll be lucky if you find any …
I’ve tried emailing crc about this they just came back saying they are discontinued – even though the are still selling dragon shoes
sidicafe did not reply to me
zingerFree Memberyou’ll find after state sales tax has been added most bike stuff is acutally more than you buy if for in the UK from the likes of chain reaction – in fact quite a few of my mates in USA buy most of their bike bits from chain reaction, there are some exceptions though – complete bikes are cheaper out there, bike gear made in USA i.e. fox is cheaper out there
Best bet for getting cheapest prices is to find what you want on line from the likes of amazon , cambria bikes etc and get it shipped to your hotel – that way you wont have to pay any us sales tax (as long as the mail order company is not located in the same state you are in. I’ve used Cambria to buy fox shox from, and amazon for Garmin GPX stuff in the past
