3 sim quite often had no coverage in colorado and utah on a trip i  recently did, also your phone has to support Voice over LTE (VoLTE) over 4g to make calls, i had it in my old backup phone and could only use the data

i paid the extra to get roaming on my lebara pay as you go sim and that was pretty reliable all the time i was state side

“Spare tyre (and possibly rotor) I can understand – the rest of it…?! WTF? Seriously, there are bike shops in the USA too you know!

Moab and Fruita in particular, you can throw a stick from anywhere in town and hit a bike shop.”

Have you see the price of bike bits in the USA in particular in destination resorts like Moab ..

Plus due to the marvels of new standards – if i break any of my 11 speed kit – chances of finding a replacement are slim to none

I  begrudgingly switched to my bronson km2 spare frame for this trip so id have boost wheels if i fubar one of them,

I’m planing on riding every day – I dont want to risk any down time due to broken parts..

Its a shame that international flights to usa are not just £100 more expensive its more like £2500 more expensive for business..

    thanks for input so far

Unless your flying business BA to USA has a limit of 23KG a  bag, which aint as good as when you book a bike in on say easy jet to europe

I’ve paid for an extra bag – but stupid poc bike bag is just too heavy on its own… – as other have said i think i’ll be ok on the way out as you just take it to oversize on the way back they do weigh them so may get hit for excess then

It has to be said i dont travel light – for a desert trip the weather looking quite cold and wet so have had to pack a selection of gear

Plus as i’m still running 2x st 11 speed – i take a bunch of spares just in case i.e.

Rear mech, front mech, chain, chain rings, cassettes, brakes, gears… a spare tyre , spare rotor , spare spd’s and a spare saddle , spare shoes+ tools to fit them – bleed kit etc

in fact the only spares i dont  take are chain set, handlebars , wheels and frame !!!

I’ve lost days of riding before either when bike shops were too busy – or just not where i was riding so always take a lot of kit

anyways i’ll be riding in these locations

Las Vegas, Kingman, Sedona, Phoenix, Cortez, Moab, Grand junction, fruita, Richfield, st george

Fingers crossed no DVT this time round like on my last trip a few years back to colorado

Heads up – anything older than 28 days is no longer covered by warranty by wiggle/CR – found an issue with a not used maxis high roller i bought back in September – once I fitted onto a wheel yesterday i found ts got a big wobble in it

CR have just replied to say anything older that 28 days they wont do warranty on any more due to company being liquidation now

Tried fitting a high roller tire yesterday which i bought from chain reaction back in September

And found that it has a big warp in it, fitted another one of the same tyres i bought at the same time and that is ok

Sent picture and video to CR yesterday , but have just had a reply back form them saying as its older than 28 days they cant do anything about it , and if i want to i can put my self down on the list creditors to try and get money back from there

I’ll try emailing Maxxis direct next….

    Hi

i’ve got a  mangled freehub from a 8 year old 350 hub (loose lock ring meant cassette dug in to splines)

Would this freehub work on old 350 star ratchet hub – or only on 370 ?

its just the lever with two bolt holes for sram i think,

google for Aluminum Alloy Bike Clamp, Bike Shifter Clamp Bicycle Trigger Clamp 22.2mm, Sram Shifter Clamp with Bolt

that will be cheap option to directly attach to bars

I’m a dinosaur running 2 * 11 still – so hopefully the old crank brother lever which just about fits with my rapid fireshifters will work with it

Not had a chance to ring the shimano number yet, any else done that yet

    From shimano website

“Do I have to go to the retailer? Can I send this straight to Shimano?
Please work with your local retailer to submit. Shimano will be working with our retail partners to execute this process and that will allow for the most consistent tracking and overall levels of service.”

does this mean you can just go to any shimano dealer ? i.e somewhere you didnt buy cranks from in the first place ?

they charge for wind screen replacement, and  tyre punctures and recovery now unless you pay for extra coverage

    Roadside Assistance PLUS

Renter may purchase Roadside Plus (RSP) from Owner for an additional fee. If Renter purchases RSP, Owner agrees, subject to the actions that invalidate Collision Damage Waiver, to contractually waive Renter’s responsibility for the cost to provide 24/7 roadside assistance (where available) which includes replacement of lost keys (including remote entry devices), flat tire service (if no inflated spare is available, the vehicle will be towed. Cost of a replacement tire is not covered by RSP), lockout service (if the keys are locked inside the vehicle), jumpstarts, and fuel delivery service for up to 3 gallons (or equivalent liters) of fuel if Vehicle is out of fuel. Roadside Plus services are only available in the United States and Canada. If Renter does not purchase RSP, or RSP is invalidated as set forth above, roadside assistance will be available, but standard charges will apply.

next time i go out there i’ll be buying somthing like this before i go

survey done, i recently lost some one who had years of life left in them , but they commited suicide by hanging themselves all alone..

in their suicde note they said they couldnt face the illness they had, eventually getting so bad they couldnt end thier own suffering…

People have to have the right to choose when to end it all if they are in pain and suffering with no possible recovery possible

I had a shimano road wheel freehub self destruct , and their returns process worked well for me  – free returns postage

Only downside was they would only do a full refund, not a replacement wheel, but  got a winter use out the wheel and was able to pick up a nicer wheel from else where

    so their not all bad..

    Hi All

Thanks for replies – i think i overheard doctor saying well value of 1 when he was booking in scan

Full history of my dodgy leg is

noticed a my first bulgy varicose vain on left leg on right side of calf at start of year

1/9/22 – got up from working in office walked down stairs and then had really intense pain in the front of my calf – so bad i was crawling around floor rather than putting weight on it , took a few advil and had a hot bath and it was then ok – didnt bother contacting dr’s

Flew out to Colorado for a 3 week MTB trip on 11/9/22

12/9/22 Did a ridiculous hard 26 mile mtb ride at Breckenridge at over 12,000 feet wheeler / miner trail to peaks trail – loads of hike a bike on this ride – leg not hurting

13/9/22 rode a bunch of trails in breck – leg not hurting

14/9/22 rode trails at brunevista, then headed over to hartmans rocks did a night ride and managed to crash hard onto my left knee while riding the ridge trail, knee pads saved my knee from getting cut up but had a a load of little red marks where pad had saved me, also load of scratch’s down low on front of calf – leg feat sore so i took some advil – and it was better after that, had to take another during night

15/9/22 rode 26 miles at hartmans rocks – had to take an advil midway through ride to stop pain in front of leg

That evening had to do the same when i woke up with pain in leg, then pretty much for every other day of the holiday i was knocking back an advil before staring a ride, during and before bed to cancel out pain in front of leg

got some epic rides in though in durango, cortez, Moab, Fruita, Grand jucntion , Vail

Probably didnt help that i rode every day solid on the 3 week trip  – and the advil masked whatever was going on with my leg

when i got home on 3/10/22 i got a bad cold so didnt ride for over week, no more advil and leg seemed ok

but then after a few rides my calf started to get rock hard and started to hurt at the rear rather than at the front, carried on ignoring it thinking it would get better on own, but on 22/10/22 i noticed my  left leg had now swollen up,and toes dont feel right – hence finally decided it was time to get it checked out…..

Im hoping it is a ruptured bakers cyst., as looking at the web a raptured cyst can cause swelling., might find out tmr

I was out there for the last 3 weeks – on a three contract which i had renewed weeks before their deadline for stopping free roaming

But my phone wouldn’t work until on turned off my spending cap – then it was £5 a Day !! – needless to say phone was on airplane mode from then on

Bas^tards then told me you you changed your contract your contract before the deadline – but we needed a month to swatch you to a new contract !!, so no free roaming for me anymore

Had a lot of hassle trying to get just a sim in USA – as they all expect you to have a USA billing address so you cant set the sim up on line, luckily for me i met up with a friend from usa in moab who paid for a month on ultra for me (bought a sim from a best buy in grand jucntion) – but that wouldnt work in my uk 4g phone !! – met another mate a week later and he lent me an old us mobile phone he had and then it started working.

Another mate came out in the lst week of my 3 week trip and brought a 3 pay as you go sim – and although that worked in my uk phone – it was rubbish compared to the USA SIM – very inconsistent signal compared to the USA SIM, better than nothing but not great,,

“Potterton Nettaheat” – brillaint boiler ours is also 30 + years old – finally got round to replacing the pcb board this weekend after a year of it occasional doing a few clicks before firing up

Board cost me £50 quid and now its a good as new now, weirdly enough changing the pcb has caused the pump to be quieter now as well, and no servicing costs at all- apart from me taking the cover off once year to hover out the gas compartment

No Fuel to be had in Brighton area – Unless you want to queue for hours

We went to get shopping at sainsburys tonight , and 60+ cars queued up in car park even though garage was closed, when we came out of sainsburys even more were waiting,  asked one of the guys in high vis,  what was going on and was told they were going to get fuel in another 30mins , staff had leaked info onto social media and the locusts had arrived…

earlier had been out on road bike and roads to asda fuel station totally blocked with q’s

wont be going anywhere in car any time soon

    Hi all

Thought I’d update , back  before stamp duty thing ended the housing market went mental in Devon

I was able to sell above market value  and that was even after I told all buyers about the surface water sewer running under the house and all the restrictions that came with it

Not sure if it would have been the same outcome now that stamp duty saving madness is ending

I really do miss being able to go down to the south west to ride now though

    Hi All

The answer to my question in MHO after doing the ride  is most defiantly anti clockwise

Aside from the heat – prefect conditions for ride – no mud and no overgrown trails

i got the route from here https://flattyres-mtb.co.uk/route-guides/peak-district-mtb-routes/derbyshire-dales-and-the-high-peak-trail/

All the major climbs are on roads / dirt track

The ride it self was nice, not great but nice – nice views , a couple of nice descents – nice riding along side streams and rivers.. but not nice enough that i’d go back and do it again… – oh and that climb up on the busy road through the gorge wasn’t great – but did force me to ride up it a lot faster than i would have otherwise just to get off it..

After i’d finished the 26 miles i drove over to mam tor and did another 12 miles over that way – that was great riding…

I’ve got one of these, back in the day when you could go on holiday with your Mountain bike to America

After missing a day of riding due to not being able to get a new tubeless tire on my bike I bought one to ensure i could inflate tubeless tires. As it was light enough for me take in my luggage

Too big to carry around in your pack  imho – but your not going to need to reseat a tire when out on your bike..

Only used it a couple of times – but each time it has reseated my tubeless tires (With valve core inner out wheel)

    Hi All

    Found more paper work

builder submitted plans to build 2 houses on plot in 1996 – got refused because of the surface water sewer running through plot, he resubmitted again saying he was going to divert the pipe

houses were built in 2001 – but builder (Who is now dead) only diverted a surface water culvert – and manged to con the inspectors into thinking that was the surface water sewer…  to avoid the big costs of diverting the 700mm sewer

found more papers showing deceased did try to get his original solicitor to go after the builders, planners etc but that got no where, he then looked into suing his solicitor but got nowhere – then he gave up and stayed in house for another 20 yeasr

House is back on market now and i’ve told estate agents to tell everyone up front about the pipe and no extensions permitted – got 10 viewings before weekend – so will have to see how desperate people are to buy a house in current mental market…

this sounds right “Sounds like Star Wars crosses Great Bear then into Five Lords”

    Not on trail forks

If rangers were doing it wouldnt they have dug he trail up – or put signs up saying they were doing so ?

    zinger

I’ve been digging through old papers  and I’ve found that back in 2001 there was a cockup with building inspectorx confusing a surface water conduit with a surface water drain , from what I can see that was diveted but the sewer pipe that is 2.5m down was not noticed even though original planning said it should be diveted before houses were occupied.

Survey was done In 2008 and pipe does go under house, which probably has no special foundations

Someone else has suggested  that we should get company that specialising in diveting drains like this to quote for doing the divett as per original plans but can neighbour whose  house was built at same time be made to allow dirty great holes to be built at end of garden and then down thier drive, their house is also less than 3 m from pipe, I know id have to pay but could we force through diversion to meet original plans which said before both houses could be occupied drain haD to be moved
