    The tyre geek is correct.

    650B is also 26″ x 13/8″ x 1 5/8″ in old money, or 26″ balloon if you’re really old.

32T is nowhere near enough for me.
Currently on 26-38T and have spun that out on occasions, going to 28-40 when these rings wear out.
Other issues for me is that 32-11 even with a short chain leaves the chain slapping around, I don’t like that.
Guess it depends on where you live, but I wouldn’t fancy a jaunt around Salisbury Plain with only a 32T ring.

    Isn’t that what hangers cost?

£20 to fix a broken bike seems very little to me, at least you didn’t wreck the mech.

    30.0mm always has been IIRC.

Or call/email silverfish the UK importer.

    Check the simplest things first.

    Tight chain link? Often overlooked.

Take off the cassette and make sure it still pinned/riveted together (seen a number of SRAM ones now that fall apart)

Worn cassette, try a new one.

Ghost shifting? Could be a badly routed cable.

    Then freehub.

Agreed, very bad. Also worth noting that they haven’t masked off where the bearings go, you WILL spend hours cleaning all of that out just to get them back in.

    Who did Kona before paligap?

Second Level Imports, that was some time ago!

There’s more to this than just ‘being dropped’.

The HQ isn’t in Monaco, but the owner may well live there, who claims not to own Paligap

We deal with two companies from Europe, one is great, the other are Italians, the work to their own rules :?

Noo, don’t link him the thread, he’s clearly delusional, send messages showing keen interest. Then add to watch list, the more the better, then he will be sitting in front of his pc come auction end wondering why it hasn’t sold.

    OMG Kolo!

I had one of their very first bar/stem combos.

Based in Brum I think, cost was reasonable compared to US imports at the time.

    I’m not into subscribing either.
I did ask the assitant in Smiths but he seemed far to busy playing with his own arse than help me out.

I don’t have alot of input in this but I have already sold 2 pairs of Easton Havoc carbons. To put the size of the market in scale it was the first 2 pairs sold in the UK. Extra only had 10 pairs in stock for the next 3 months, so you won’t be selling loads of these wheels.
There was also no settlement discount on them so I’m guessing not alot of money is made on them even at nearly £2k.
Both sets were sold on their merits of the 2 year warranty.
Made in Mexico of all places!

Not sure this helps but Shimano 10 spd road cassettes have a tiny thin washer that fits behind the cassette. Not sure if SRAM needs the same.

Just grabbing Mrs S a gift card for her birthday and see figleaves are giving away a £15 gift card with every £50 one. Thought it might be of interest to those who subscribe to the Valentines Day thing thong.

    Fixed for you.

Is the runnning cost for a bike shop any different than for an independent bookshop, or a newsagents for instance?

Almost certainly not, so with a smaller margin we have to sell more just to make the same profit.

You need to sort out the which comments I’ve made are serious and which tongue-in-cheek.

I honestly thought you were being serious with all of your quotes.

There’s a saying in the bike trade, “if you want to become a millionare, start with £2 million”

Probably a fairer comparison is to look at margins of other high street retailers, my mate runs a jewellers/goldsmiths, markup, 500% 8O

When we used to sell Vans and the likes the margins were huge in comparison to cycle brands.

Supermarkets using loss leaders is not a comparison as they rely on volume which an LBS just won’t get.

High margin items like tubes make up for making £20 on a pair of pricematched wheels for example.

I was bored a few weeks ago, calculated the cost of keeping my shop doors open, £58k per year not including staff. So I have to make £58k profit before I can take any for mayself.

You’re secretly worried about TJ not wearing a helmet aren’t you?

As above it’s only human. The phrase ‘grief lite’ springs to mind.

I simply pointed out that no spares where available

This is simply not true, the only spares you cannot buy are piston seals, which are not designed to be replaced.

Oh here we go, another TJ anti-shimano rant

It’s the same when SRAM vs Shimano comes up.

Unfortunately it’s never based on fact but opinion.

Cds will never die for me, yeah I download but the quality of sound is never there with mp3 even with high bit rates. The other issue for me is long term storage. Will I still have all my mp3s in 10 years time? I once lost 8000 tracks as my hard drive died

We’ve just had a new indy record store open in our town, which is ace :D

    Those pictures are awful!

All I see is a small kitchen, a living room with most of the view blocked out by a lamp and a garden that looks like a jungle.

As above remove some clutter and get more pictures done, or some agents do rotating gif views.

Or you could just measure the rims, it’s hardly rocket science.

    Maybe

The issue is if the shop in question is wrong and it fails then they could be held liable.

Why would you need to put tel before the number? Surely it’s obvious it’s a telephone number and not just a random collection of numbers.

Also worth noting just because it has a service history doesn’t mean it has been serviced, I used to know a dealer who had a Ford, Nissan, Toyota, any car you can name dealer stamps. Fairly common apparently. If you really want to check service history phone the garage who did the services.

Even when tight they will knock still, took me a while to figure it out when I first came across it. It’s the very first part at the top of the headset if that helps.

    ziggy

We’ve had a very specific issue regarding Mongoose headsets.
Whip the stem off and see if the headset has a plastic conical preload wedge, if it has that will almost certainly be your problem.
Easy way to check would be to pull on the front brake and push the bike back and forth as if under heaving braking.

TBH sounds like you don’t have enough equity to release if the house is ‘worth’ £400k and after selling there wouldn’t be much left?

    Fast frequent cheap reliable comfortable

Depends on where you live, we get a train every hour and 4 buses a day, that’s it really. I tried using the train on a few occasions only to be told it’s full so I have to wait another hour!

Fuel is still cheap though without question.

No, the point is that if you want to run 1:1 with the middle ring then you need a cassette with big gaps in.

    This.

I was running 11-28T when I had a triple on, going to put the duo setup back on when I go 10 speed though as I can then go 30/40 with 11-36, ideal for me.

    ziggy

Also, you can’t have messed about with dual set-ups much if you couldn’t figure out a 1:1 ratio on a middle ring (seeing as both rings and largest sprocket are readily available in 32, 34 & 36)

You’re missing the point, if I run 34 or 36 on the front, yes I could have 1:1 ratios but then I would end up spinning out in no time.

    Cynical +1

Been messing about with dual setups for while now.

I really don’t like more than 10T difference between the chainrings, find my legs spinning far too much when I change down to granny, also don’t like the fact that you don’t get 1:1 ratio on the outer ring with a duo setup.
Other things I don’t like are the chain flapping around more and the fact that lower than a 38T means I’m spinning out all the time. Depends on where you live I guess, but where I am are alot of fireroads.
