£20 to bleed a brake is the going rate. Don’t see what the problem is.

Going to take at least 30 minutes or more to bleed an XTR unit.

Had a chap at the door some years ago, was selling dusters and tea towels, but he did have ID to show.

He then proceeded to ask ‘If my dad was in’

I was 24 at the time.

My housemate couldn’t control his laughter. Bastid.

Usually charge a couple of quid or so for fitting a cassette.

I don’t work for free, do you?

Go to a garage and see if they fit a bulb to your car for free.

What? woods valve rubber? They must be the oldest stock pucture kits in the world! You can’t even use that on woods valves now as they have built in rubber seals.

Best puncture kits are Rema tip tops, they actually stick for good.

Trouble is you’re trying to do what alot of good shops can do already, I often take of the peg bikes and customise them for individuals. Problem is if it’s labour intensive then you may not be able to offer the best price. Merlin et al have huge buying power that you can never compete with.
I would look at getting some unique frames or parts, really what you need is a USP that the other retailers don’t have.
I used to assemble Soulcraft frame builds for a good mate, trouble is it can take alot of time, and as for delivery on their frames, he packed it in because it really wasn’t making money, shame really as the product was lovely.

Oh and some bike shops can fit chain devices well, I used to be down my local engineers often getting the tabs from Saint cranks machined down so an MRP could go on there :-)

Yep I’ve had the CSA on my case even though me and my ex have stated that payments were all made on time and up to date.
I would suggest sending them via fax all of your payment slips and tie up their fax for over an hour, they don’t seem to forget you then :?
The CSA currently only make 32p out of every pound collected, so 68p in administration, imagine a coporate business trying to explain that to shareholders.
The only good thing the CSA has done is get fathers to share care with mothers as it reduces their cost, not sure if this is by chance or intended though.
The issue is though if you want to avoid paying it’s still too easy to do so.

Thought I’d post a pic of my fist real road bike, a Raleigh Team Cadet, from about 1986, I rode this everywhere one summer.

Actually you’re also lucky that they had XT freehubs at the old price, the new price would tighten your sphincter somewhat.

Oh and the price you paid is the going and fair rate.

Might be worth just dropping the forks out and checking all of the headset seals are correctly seated, also check to see if the headset races haven’t been damaged.

Sounds like it came in the box as it would to a dealer, you’re aware of the fact that voids your warranty right?

    God this takes me back

Got most of those above still kicking around.

Got this in my CD player at the mo, not sure if they were really britpop though. A good Somerset yokel band IMO.

It sounds like the alloy sleeve washer the slots into the non drive side BB cup has seized onto the the crank axle. Had this a couple of times in the workshop now.
The last one I had to carefully remove with a hacksaw, took ages! Not sure if you can get replacement washers on their own so you may need to buy a new BB.

    Pics would be useful though.

My lads new school teacher is fairly fit, perhaps you could go hang around some schools?

Also ask your ex, I’ve been recommended that way before to new women.

I thought you only took kids to a supermarket to shout at them?

Stay away from the internet fruitcakes, whilst I got laid a few times that way all of them had issues, one wanted kids immediately, the other would text a million times a day and then go nuts if I didn’t respond, another was married etc etc.

Don’t ask me why but women can smell a single man from many paces, when you’re with someone you usually have to beat them off with a stick. Go figure.

How about one of those rally/track day experiences?

I broke a ferrari when I went, with your reputation you should be able to cause carnage :-)

Actually you can, however you will need some alloy spacers (available from Hope) as the non drive side is a different size.

He could, but I’ve had this with repairs and fork servicing before (TFT now does all my fork servicing) with requests over the phone, it’s really difficult to advise without seeing the forks/bike in front of you. If you get it wrong or ends up costing more than quoted then it usually ends in grief. In this day and age if you give advice over the phone that could be incorrect it could lead to all sorts of trouble and even legal action.

Would you go to a car mechanic and ask him what parts you are likely to need for a service?

How is the perosn on the end of a phone going to know what parts you need unless he can see the forks apart in front of him?

So if he advises you what you need and it’s wrong/ or need more parts he’s going to look a tit.

I’m currently saving for a Curtis frame, but as you say the options are endless, sounds like they could build what you are after. £849 for an 853 version, less for T45. Can’t comment yet as I’m 2 months away with the money yet but having never found an off the peg HT frame to fit just right I think it’s money well spent.

    Dear PT.

Last night in bed, your wife told me you’d found out about our affair and were going to fire me today. You’ve not been getting much satisfaction recently, so I won’t spoil the trend. This is my letter of resignation.

Don’t worry about a reference, I’ll tell you now, she’s bloody marvellous.

Thanks but i’d rather not have adverts on the Beeb, you would then also end up with all that shite the others do, Big Bro, celebrity cockend etc.

First off don’t expect any sympathy if you shold have a valid licence.

However TV licencing bods are indeed asshats of the highest order.

I did live without a TV for nearly a year, they would not desist from sending the same old letters even though I phoned and wrote to them on numerous occasions.

I then invited them round to see for themselves, and they managed to not turn up.

They however usually need to see or hear a TV at your residence before they can obtain a court order, however I do hope you get caught. What if we all adopted the same policy? How do you think the BBC would make programmes to watch then?

What I would like to see though is an opt out policy, can’t see how it’s workable though.

Report it to the copyright holder, should be on the back of the DVD, they will be more than happy to send him a letter asking for lots of cash due to breach of copyright. Then Ebay.

I’m buying a stock bike this year, and I’m in the trade. With the way parts prices are going it’s now cheaper to buy stock, sell on the guff parts you don’t want and upgrade as nessecary.

I worked out I’ll be saving over £250 that way and I pay trade prices.

Not really designed to take apart, you mean fix as in get rid of the freewheel bit?

Spot weld it to the hub, seen it on some trials bikes.

Yep my pet gripe with new cars too, wish it could be turned off.

Big wide profile tyres don’t help much in the snow either, like RB says get on the bike, cyclists are now the fastest things on the road.
