Well I signed up with them, got all the kit to set it up. Never got connected to the internet in 2 months, so told them where to stick it and then they had the cheek to try and charge me for the whole contract term.

    Complete waste of time.

Without doubt rice pudding, it’s the texture, to me it’s like eating vomit, and not your own, someone elses.

Oh and eggs which I have a physical allergy to, the smell of an egg cooking will make me barf.

Sorry to sound such a bore but it’s definately an 89 as it was the year I left school and started work in the bike trade, the pink and black fire mountain was also 88, 89 was the first year Second Level Sports had started importing Konas.

So where did you find it OP?

Yep definately 89, my first proper MTB, where did you find one in that condition? Everything even down to the reflectors is original.

Selly Oak cycles, wow hadn’t heard of them for years, thanks for the memories on this thread :-)

I appreciate a few extra days off, but why are we compelled to have to do something with the day? I’d rather just go for a ride and chill out for the rest of the day.

Saying that I’m off to Longleat in a bit with the son, although the bikes are going with us too :-)

Worth remembering that a warranty is in addition to your staturary consumer rights that a product should be fit for purpose. Personally I think it’s a bit of a joke to expect that much attention for a fork.

One of the reasons I’ve gone for Magura forks this year.

You’re not alone, this is only a week old and I’m already thinking I should have put some Stans on even had thoughts of switching the frame to a P7 and some longer travel forks.

That cassette should have a tiny allen key bolt on the back, it’s 1.5mm, check to see if you can tighten it a touch, there is only one oddly enough which is probably why they always come loose. Either that or get a small hammer and tap the rivets from the top to flatten them, should stop the play.

BTW that cassette is almost worn out anyway.

yeah and as postie it must great for nicking Wheelie boxes and flogging the contents on Ebay!

Only funny because it’s true

I reckon it would be much more lucrative using blackmail as a sideline, I’d accept cash in return for not letting all the neighbours know you get a weekly delivery of octopus pron, or the fact your test results from the sexual health clinic were positive.

Mind you no one, not even Mark Cavendish, can ride a Pashley as fast as a 40 yr old with a fag hanging out of his mouth.

Put this back on the road after storage for 18 months, the ex was going to take it and I ended up keeping the Mondeo we had, fortunately the Mondeo got stolen and the ex couldn’t afford to insure the Civic.
I will never sell this car, it’s the memories it carries more than what it is, been on the track a couple of times, can’t wait until I have enough funds to buy an Integra :-)

    Talk Talk?

I’d rather be without the internet than use their services again.

I signed up to them from BT, I was left for 2 months without an internet connection, in fact they never even connected me and then started to send threatening letters stating I had to pay for an 18 month contract still!

You will need alot of capital to start with, lease will usually want at least 12 months up front. Then there’s rates, staff, insurance etc. Do a business plan and some homework.

The other issues maybe be stock, being new you would be very lucky to get credit accounts, pro forma for usually the first year, also you may not be able to obtain the brands you want if there are other dealers nearby.

You will be looking at minimum £30k in cash to start up.

Myth no 1) You do not have to have a bell fitted to a bike, it only has to be sold with one for BS 6102

Myth no 2) You are only required to have a rear and pedal reflectors on a bike for road use, however to conform to BS 6102 a cycle must be sold with front, rear, pedal and wheel reflectors.

Making helmet wearing law is daft as a vast amount of people would just stop cycling.

Easy, just get a long straddle wire (or brake wire) run that either side of the seat tube, then you can just hook up a standard cable to that.

Is it a Mongoose per chance?

Yep Shimano chains will all soon be coming with powerlink style links for fitting chains, after about 20 years they have finally admitted defeat with joining pins, in fact they were often the weakest link (sorry) in Shimano chains.

For me though it has to be KMC, by far the best value and choice.

And yes SRAM are not the quality they once were.

This comes from experience of selling and fitting hundreds of chains every year, not fairy stories :-)

OK here’s how it works on ebay, when you bid you are entering a contract, part of that contract states that the item is pick up only, unless you have emails stating otherwise then it’s down to you to collect the item. Regardless of your message sent you have not had confirmation from the seller that your terms would be acceptable.

If you don’t collect then the seller can leave you negative feedback and raise a non payment dispute if you don’t pay.

The seller has no obligation to post it to you or wait for a courier, in fact he may well re list if you don’t pay as his fees would get refunded.

Or the other side of the coin is that you pay for an advert in a local paper that few people will see and not fetch such a high price for your goods. Ebay attracts millions of buyers so I think the fees are worth it.

I made about £600 so far this year on ebay clearing old bike parts and genral tat from around the house that probably would have just still been sitting there, and you can do it all from the comfort of your own home.

Yep Shimano hubs are weighed without skewers, you also forgot the weight of nipples which if they are brass will be another 90 grams.

I’ve just built XTR M960 hubs (bargain tastic cheap too) with XC 717’s and Sapim Laser spokes with alloy nipples, quoted manufacturer weights come in at 1570 grams a pair.

I’d like to build DT Swiss ceramics on Stans 355 with Aerolites, which could come in at sub 1300 grams a pair. At a price though.

Second what PP says if you can’t deliver in a week max don’t bother selling!

As for Mikey M he’s a cheeky ****, if/when I find his address I will post it on here even if I get banned for it, I decently gave him a couple of quid, alright so I can live without it but that’s just taking the piss.

Well seeing as the RRP is £5.99 they are doing well. Muc Off is sold there for £8.99 so they can ‘reduce’ to normal RRP in a sale, all perfectly legal as long as it has been sold at that price for 6 weeks IIRC.

Common practice with all large retailers, to add percieved value.

Yep wot TJ says, and avoid washing up liquid, it has salt in it, the worst thing you can put on steel.

    ziggy

As TJ says check the steerer isn’t pulling through, I’ve seen someone with some fairly nasty injuries where some mechanic thought it would be a good idea to fit a steerer tube without a lower retaining lip to some Marzocchis.

As Brant states stems can creep without the top cap fitted, not common though.

My record was 381 watching my written off Audi, but as said above most are usually gauging a price or want to buy for silly money, I had loads of offers for around £500, got £2.7k in the end :-)

Also watch the hose lengths on those cheap Hayes, they are OE so are a bit on the short side. As a customer of ours found out and hoses aren’t cheap.

First off the scheme in Germany meant you got up to 5000 euros off, and secondly you have to have owned your ‘banger’ for 12 months to use the scheme.

I for one would never buy a new car as you would loose that £2k the minute you drive it off the forecourt, and I need a car with space inside so a small euro box is going to be no good to me.

You could probably negotiate close to £2k off a new car anyway.

As above, araldite, used it on some old lead pipes, worked a treat, leak free years on
