Is the thread accessible from the other side? Run a tap through and it will re cut the thread straight. If you only have access from the damaged side run a spiral point tap through, it’s tapered so should pick up the good thread. If not drill out thread and helicoil.

Trump is having a good day, turns out President Joe Biden has just signed up to ‘truth social’ and is already laying into Trump. Top trolling 😀

Albon looking impressive in FP sessions, Maclaren looking quick too, upgrades seem to working at all tracks.

Looking forward to seeing Liam Lawson, be good to see him in the second Red Bull instead of Checo.

Also forgot the Moulton Bicycle Company where I work, and yes those figures quoted are incorrect.

One of the biggest issues we face are attracting skilled staff or even apprentices, most kids these days don’t want to do manual work. The pay is fairly decent for a brazer at £30k plus a year with no weekend work and Friday finish at 1, yet we struggle to attract employees.

On the plus side we have a record amount of bikes on order and are expanding, although in fairness our product is extremely unique and industry downturns have never affected us. Over 90% of our product goes overseas, I can’t imagine other framebuilders can match that apart from Brompton maybe.

That all escalated quickly. From ‘Stop the boats’ to ‘MOTD boycott’ Shows the thirst for news in the digital age.
Next question for me would be ‘why should I be forced to pay a licence fee?’ I don’t see how the BBC can ever be fully impartial.
As for GL, much credit to him, although he could walk into Sky/ITV tomorrow and get paid more.

190/110 this week in my recent 50 year health check, nurse checked 5 times with 2 different machines. Going to have one strapped on for 24 hours Monday in case it was just white coat syndrome.
Not overweight, diabetic, low alcohol use and reasonably active.

I’m amazed they have any staff to start with.
We need staff and we can’t get any, offering £12 hour, 8-5 Mon to Thurs, 8-1 Fri, full time perm contract, great place to work.
    Where you based @singletrackmind ?

Whilst I was Stanton all the best I’m not convinced the the company will survive long term, more than half of companies who enter administration don’t survive.
If you haven’t been able to make money from bikes in the last few years you never will, bike sales are now dropping off a cliff.
My day job is for a small UK bike company and yes it’s been difficult dealing with supply chains and of course Brexit but you have to make hay while the sun shines.
As they say in this industry if you want to make a million you need to start with 2 million.

Think I may have some amongst my old stock, i’ll have a root around tomorrow. Did you want dropper bottle or spray?

I would say try before you buy if you can, it’s alot of outlay.
the extra drag is minimal and beds in after some miles, servicing is a quick oil change once a year which is a ten minute job. If you do get one make sure the chainline is bang on or else you will get a noisy suonding hub, think coffee grinder.

There are solutions for drop bar shifters such as the Gebla Rohbox. Rohbox I’ve done a few of these now and they work very well, one shifter goes up, other side goes down, works really well with SRAM double taps.

Almost certainly seized brake caliper. Recently had the same on my Mondeo, cooked the discs and pads. Total parts bill was £450, where are you finding calipers for £35? Cheapest I could get that were in stock £125 each.
Don’t drive it far until it’s correctly diagnosed as I found out.

Whilst Brompton may have some drawbacks you can’t fault it’s design brief, it does exactly what you need it do for a commute. An absolute British manufacturer success story, they are highly revered in Asia and sell quite a few there.
I work for Moulton, the small wheeled pioneers, we no longer do folding, just seperable. Alex Moulton insisted ride quality had to come first. We are absolute minnows compared to Brompton, but again our main market is the far east, we appear to have a god like status over there. I’m lucky enough to be able to borrow a bike or two as a perk of my job, currently got this rather nice AM GT mk3, my lottery win bike.

Any reason you didn’t want a Rohloff? Look at http://www.rohbox.com. It’s an adaptor for Rohloff hubs that allows you to use modded Campy or SRAM drop bar shifters. Fitted a few sets now, fairly easy to set up.

I have witnessed the effects instances like these can have on a child.

My 13 year old step daughter had explicit pictures of her taken and shared at school, it’s taken 5 years to get her life back on track with immense courage. Within 2 months of the incident she was no longer attending school, moved to another school, images also get shared there, cycle repeats again. Then the drinking started, stealing, drug taking, constant contact with the police and going missing 3-4 times a week. By the age of 14 she had been arrested multiple times for petty crimes usually committed whilst drunk, by the age of 15 she was registered as an alcoholic and was admitted to a secure hospital to detox, AT FIFTEEN. At 16 she tried to take her own life.

Let alone the effect it had on me and my partners relationship, and the financial costs that ran into thousands.

I’m glad to say that her life finally has turned around, she has managed to get into to her dream career and is doing well due to moving well away from home and having no contact with any of her childhood friends, As she says ‘I can only look forwards now’.

Actions always have consequences. The school, police, social services failed in their duty.
This is more than a ‘silly mistake’

The government would do better to look at reforming the criminal justice system entirely, we spend more than the US per capita. Nope, let’s keep putting them in prison to keep the gammon happy (who were induced by the fear mongering press) so we can stay in office. Increased sentencing rarely reduces offending, 85,000 currently in prison in the UK,(44,000 in 1990) let’s not even talk about re offending rates, do prison sentences really reduce crime?
If the people want to protest, they will, regardless of the punishment they could face.

I too have recently closed my shop, 24 years gone. In fact we’ve been trading since 1904, shopping habits have now changed forever.
Squeezed by increasing rates/rent, pressure on margins and a drop in sales.
I never did it for the money, I enjoyed my job, nothing can replace that.
Sadly I’m now leaving the bike trade for good, I see no future in it anymore.

Got 18 months between my little two, 4 yr girl, 6 yr boy, I’ll be honest it’s like constant warfare from the minute they get up until they are asleep. My little girl has spent every waking moment trying to kill/mame/torture her older brother.
Add to this the older two teenagers who constantly bicker I’m surprised they haven’t all ended up under the patio yet.
Individually they are great kids, put them together however…

I’d rather have a return to the old days with shops closed, a day of rest with friends, family, working in retail myself all it does is increase overheads. A day off a week from consumerism is a good thing.

    Yay, geetar man is back!
On a more serious note I’m glad someone did invent mtbs, now I just break myself instead of the bike.
If it wasn’t for the mtb I wouldn’t have spent the last 28 years of my working life in the cycle trade.

Had similar issues with neighbours myself, I was always happy to ignore Mr Grumpy as the kids had named him. It was really much of a problem until he verbally abused my Oh.

Got a bit bored of him knocking at my door asking me to move one of our cars from ‘his space’ in the street. I spent the evening trawling ebay for an old banger, a 16 year old Mondeo for £97!
The man must have knocked on every door in the street to find out who it belonged to. 7 weeks passed until the dvla popped round to clamp it and remove it.
Must have cost him a bit I was thoughtful enough to register it in his name and address :-)

My boy certainly sleeps better for it.

Tell them how it is, you left the car undamaged, ask them to get proof from the hire company. They will refund you.

My work partner had a similar experience in Sardinia only with ‘claimed’ damage this time, he also got a refund, although he did take pictures.

Honestly, don’t waste your time with the hire company, I spent weeks emailing back and to, 5 mins on the phone to CC company and it was sorted.

I now always take pictures of hire cars when I return them now and get them to sign and confirm it has fuel/no damage.

Similar experience with Hertz in Sardinia, I took it back, had filled it only about 1km away from drop off point, so I know it was FULL.

Got charged £150 on my card statement the next month, they claim I hadn’t filled it up!

Anyhow, got a refund from the credit card provider, bitch to them, they will sort it out. Apparently this is a common scam.

I’ve always charged for quotes, unless they bought the bike from me in the first place.

Sadly we rarely get the business as Wheelies have pretty much become the insurers choice of supply, they offer the biggest discounts basically.

    £10 + VAT btw.

TBH the crisp world imploded once Walkers bought out most of their rivals.

I miss ready salted Chipsticks (the smiths ones) and Ringos. Oh and KP Skydivers if anyone remembers those. There was also something called ‘Bitz of pizza’ , don’t remember who made them though.

For zig jnr. Frazzles are the crisp of choice.

On the plus side if they have only charged you for parts saves you doing it yourself, and if it isn’t right you can go back and moan :D

Ask for the old parts back and an explaination of why they fitted all the parts, I presume the parts were needed?

    ziggy
    Free Member

they are not allowed to change parts without letting you know.

Since when? It’s an open contract when you leave something for repair, sure a good business will phone and say “it’s going to cost x amount”

In theory though they can fit what they like if it needs it, same applies to car garages.

Echo what the other LBS guys have said, I only do them for regulars now.
Had a ghetto tubeless tyre explode off the rim, all I can say I’m not keen on looking like an extra from a pron movie at work all day.
