Your learning that for everything you read/hear about childcare, you’ll also read/hear the opposite :D

As has been said, babies are hardy. We used to boil the water and store it. Then make up the bottle and heat it up when needed.

You can now buy cartons of ready to use baby milk. A godsend for when you’re out and about. Might be an idea for those night shifts.

Have you asked how much the bill is compared to the value they place on the car?

When our old, but very nice 406 was written off, the difference was only £100. I paid this and they repaired the car.

It would have cost £80 to swap Mrs Z’s personalised number plate over, so for the sake of £20 it was worth it.

Off course, she had another prang 6 months later that really wrote it off.

She gives the most evasive answers to questions. One word answers usually. Factually accurate, but as much use as a chocolate tea pot. An MP would kill to have such skill.

Say, if I ring and ask where she is, she’ll say out with Lauren (our daughter). Correct but tells me nothing.

If I do the same, she asks why I’m being funny.

It boils my piss to have to ask 20 questions to get the answer….

Bugger me, that’s not much less than we paid for our first house……

I don’t. I take the opportunity to give the roof a coat or two of preservative once the old felt has been removed.

We get it serviced each year with the MOT. I’d change brake pads, shoes etc if they needed doing in the summer. I’ll be damned if I’ll work on the car in the cold and wet though.

I find that to work on a newish car, you need to strip away so much stuff to get to what you want to work on it simply can’t be arsed, so off to the garage it goes.

Seems false economy to miss servicing though.

Well, I’m 58 very soon. The house is paid for and the pensions are worth about 250K. Mrs Z’s not likely to get much as she didn’t work for 20 years while the sprogs were growing up. She only works a few hours each week now.

My family history would indicate that I’m unlikely to draw my pension, but Mrs Z should be OK.

God help my daughter or the grandchildren. I do worry about their futures…..

More sad news. 2016 seems to getting worse by the day.

I carry cash, but I seem to be a dying breed.

I hate those who get to the bar, buy their own pint and pay with a card, as do the three mates they’re with. Buy a round, or get some cash you numpties.

Likewise the idiots in the paper shop who want a copy of the Sun and a box of matches and want to pay with a card.

The only time I’ll pay for small items with a card is if I’m at a self service checkout. I don’t mind doing so then.

Buy the biggest fastest bike you can. No point riding a bike sensibly, you might as well take the car.

You’ll be amazed how quickly you get used to the performance and need (well, want not need if the truth be told) more.

Tell the g/for to do the job and she can charge what she wants. If you’re doing it tell her to butt out.

I don’t think Mrs Z knows wheree the fuel gauge is, let alone look at it from time to time. There was a time she’d pay for the petrol she uses but I cannot recall the last time she put her hand in her pocket.

As she gets a mileage allowance for work, it annoys me the she’s paid for the fuel she uses but I pay to fill the car.

I’m tempted not to fill it up and let her run out of fuel…

As others have said ring the gas board.

We could sometimes smell gas and it was a seal on the regulator near the meter.

Replaced there and then with no charge.

    Don’t mess about with gas.

Is it wrong that I’ve never used Strava ever?

Nor me, Mainly cos I’d be depressed about the very slow times :D

My neighbour complains that he posts a time and almost immeadiately it’s beaten. I suggested that he didn’t use Strava. He looked at me like I’d taken a dump on his lawn :P

No carbon on my bikes either, not knowingly anyway.

Aluminium, you know it makes sense………..

Comfort rather than fashion where clothes are concerned.

I’d rather not get pissed. The hangover’s not worth it.

On the plus side I don’t give a toss what others think (unless they’re important to me) and I speak my mind.

Just make sure that you wrap it around a brick and put it through his window.

Why pander to the ****? Escalate the spat to Defcon 1 now.

I’d be out there every 5 minutes locking and unlocking my car. What does the **** do when the sun comes up, have a word with God?

I guess it depends on the machine. We had one where the bearing could not be replaced. When the bearing went it was scrap.

If you can get to the bearing OK it should be an easy enough fix.

Plenty of good tutorial vidoes on the web for washing machine repair. I’ve found them very helpful

I lost both my parents to the big C. Mum when I was 16, dad 10 years later. There’s not much anyone can say that will help. Time is the best healer, although I doubt you’ll think that just yet.

I found that once the funeral was over, I could look to the future. Before it, all I could think about was the loss.

I do know that I’ve never felt so alone as the night after my father’s funeral. There didn’t seem to be anyone I could turn to if a problem arose, even my wife. You get over such thoughts in time.

Are you required by law to attend the house of commons for these inquiries? If not, **** them.

I’d be damned if I’d be held to account by those corrupt, self serving **** that make up our government.

Put your own house in order first. They’re still on the fiddle and getting away with it.

It’s the hipocracy on Mumsnet that amuses me.

If the roles were reversed they’d all be supporting the woman’s right to have a male friend with whom to share a hobby.

All men are bastards on mumsnet. They’re just seen as a cash cow half the time.

No wonder most of their husbands are viewing porn or shagging around.

[/quote]Cannot see why this is legal as a sport – it makes no sense at all. I’d ban it.

Let’s ban everything you disagree with shall we. Perhaps we should just ban you.

Why do Internet arses feel its right to ban everything that they dislike or don’t agree with.

People are killed cycling, let’s ban that, in car accidents, let’s ban cars, property, aircraft, trains, in their homes. Where do we stop?

Hear about something some don’t like, but you didn’t see, ban it.

Call me odd, but wouldn’t it be better to take pictures of the stuff without the kids in them.

People could see what they were buying and your wife wouldn’t come across as quite so paranoid.

Pay more tax then. We’ll be able to afford more spending on benefits.

You’ll feel better pay 60% tax and watching the less advantaged being taken care off.

I think it’s people having a go at the ginger whinger. The three original presenters didn’t seem to divide opinion like Evans does.

What we’d accept from them we won’t from that Joey oik and the replacement crew.

Ask the seller for the 11 digit number on the green new keeper section of the V5. Yout can use this to tax the car. Usually, you’re only insured to drive other cars on your policy if the car is insured by the current owner.

If the seller still has the car insured, you could ask them not to cancel it until your brother gets the car home.

If they’ve already cancelled the insurance then you’ll have to insure it so your brother can drive it.

When someone ran into the back of our old, but in excellent condition, low mileage 406 I paid the difference between the cost of the repairs and what the insurance company would pay me as a write off.

For the money it was worth it to keep a good car, not have to pay out to transfer the private plate I’d bought for Mrs Z. Not to mention the hassle in finding a good, cheap car at short notice.

There always seem to be plenty around, until you need one.

why wouldnt you wear an helmet?

Because I grew up riding without one. 50 years of doing so is a hard habit to break (sounds like a cue for a song)

Cycling is more popular in the Netherlands, and you don’t tend to see them wearing helmets.

People do lots of things that put them at risk. I don’t want to make them stop, and I don’t expect other to tell me what risks I can or cannot take.

    zanelad

I can’t believe helmets aren’t already compulsory. All very well saying “it’s my life/health” – in a country with an NHS surely it’s everyone’s problem if people are needlessly injured?

I trust that you are urging the banning of smoking and alcohol too.

Charge Spoon here on both road bikes.

Me too, just get a new one for each bike.

I regularly drive one. For 15 years the old one and since last September a new one. They’re very good I think. Plenty of space, quite quick for what they are. Not particularly economical, but then they are brick shaped.

The old one wasn’t the most reliable thing, especially as it got older. The new one’s had a couple of minor issues too. Not really what I’d expect from VW, but I guess that could be said of most manufacturers these days.

They were both comfortable and nice to drive. The new one especially so. Everything seems so complicated though. Radio, air con etc all need much time spent reading the handbook to figure them out. Give me analogue stuff any day.
