I had a great day at Mabie today. Descender Bender is class now with those big berms! I need to get back down soon with more time so I can explore all the little trails I saw disappearing into the forest.

I do the same as fenred. The latest was a Brownie holiday. As for the increase, my maintenance increases annually in line with RPI, whether I get a pay rise or not, so go for your increase. Good luck!

I was up at the Peel bike shop today and they said that SW is closed until the end of March at the earliest, apparently the felling trucks have pretty much flattened the whole trail and it will need to be rebuilt after the felling is finished. Deliverance is also closed but there is a diversion down a walking path instead. Looks like Inners is going to get busier over the next few months!

Live in Peebles and had no reason to go further south riding. TBH I spend more time in the surrounding hills than at the trailcentres but the question was asked!

There are self catering pods in Glentress. Innerleithen has Innerhaven, which is also self catering but designed for mountain bikers or you could try the Traquiar Hotel, the bar has some really good local ales. The Glentress Hotel, mentioned above, is also pretty bike friendly.

I’ve had a squeezebox for a couple of years and hardly used it. It does work but takes a while to rescan my itunes library (admittedly itunes may be the problem!). I recently bought an airport express and now can easily stream music from my macbook or iphone through my amp & speakers. You don’t mention apple above so the squeezebox might work better for you. My pal has sonos and it is much slicker (and more ££).

I’ve got a 2005 P7, it’s been my only bike since I got it ex hire from the Hub. I’ve ridden it everywhere, natural, trail centres, Whistler Bike Park, I’ve even done a cyclocross race on it – it has 150mm Bombers! I have thought about changing it a few times but just can’t seem to let go.

You won’t get a lot of meat from it, but you will get a ton of fat. The year I had it for Christmas, I had to do a pork joint to go with it. It was really good though.

This is what you need if you have a Mac/iphone.

The on bike footage was frightening.

Sam Hills here too. Brilliant shoes, they do get soaked through but stuffing them with paper dries them out fine. I’m not too bothered about them smelling, they are riding shoes! Keep my feet much warmer that shimano spds that i moved from. Would never go back now.

I’ve got a 32″ Toshiba CRT. Everything still looks great on it, so sticking with it.

I’m just using the free version, but it just never seems accurate. I’m going to try Map my ride next time to see if it’s any better. Thanks

Rampage on the front, Swamp Thing on the back works well for me.

Gobi Fizik. I always thought they were too expensive but picked one up for £65 and it’s noticeably better after just a few rides.

Merkur for me too. I just got pissed off at the expense of the Mach3/fusion/whatever blades.

It’s the best shave I’ve ever had, it does take practise, I use oil and soap applied with a brush.

I got one of these for my recent trip to Canada:

It’s not HD but suited my budget. I used the handlebar mount and it’s solid, it didn’t move one bit during 2 days in Whistler, there are other mounts in the box and you can buy specific ones if required. The only problem is the noise through the frame etc but this can easily be reduced/removed in iMovie. The footage was clear with no vibration, the camera has a fisheye lense so you see a lot of the trail and surroundings. The usual light/dark problems exist when going in and out of the forest but it looks fine in iMovie. The benefit if the X170 is that it has a built in screen for viewing, it is small but works fine.

I put them on my bike in the spring, replacing juicy 5s that were a few years old. I love them, not noticed that they’re underpowered but I haven’t tried anything else. They do look and feel cool though, if that counts for anything!

I have 5.10 Sam Hills and I find them brilliant. They do soak up the water but there’s no way to keep dry in the Scottish winter and the 5.10s at least keep my feet warm when wet. I do sometimes find it difficult to adjust foot position but it has become easier as I’ve got used to them.

A cracking ride round GT tonight. The sun was out but still got wet and muddy from all the puddles. Did the boundary trail descent again, really getting into it as a Spooky Wood alternative.

I’ve just used the CRC bag to take my bike to Vancouver. I thought it was brilliant. I got mine for £59 and I still thought it was a bargain compared to the others available, so for £47 its even better!. You get 2 wheel bags too, so I used these to protect my frame on either side. It’s taken my bike to Vancouver and back with no damage so it’s done its job for me.

Tom, my hands were a mess after 2 days, the braking bumps on Crank it Up and B-line were huge. I did get some amount of speed up on those rollers and the wall rides were fun but I preferred the tight lines of Ninja Cougar/Karate Monkey/Angry Pirate. I might hire a FS bike next time but I had a blast on my P7. It was ace siiting in the sun on Citta’s terrace having a beer afterwards!

Another vote for Orange P7. It’s been my only bike for 6 years now, I had a 5″ full suss but didn’t enjoy it half as much as my P7. I have 150mm Bombers on it and I ride it everywhere: trail centres, natural, downhill. I’m just back from Whistler where I rode the XC trails and the Bike Park, I did get some odd looks on the chairlift but I was still overtaking folk, on big DH bikes, on the twistier descents. On the flowy, big jump trails, a FS bike will be faster but not half as much fun as a hardtail on the twisty stuff.

    Go for it!
