Really interesting thread with lots of brilliant images. My favourite artist is Peter Howson, I’ve always loved the way he paints people.

I had a similar experience to the OP. Family dog, owned since a puppy, bit my youngest daughter on the face and head when it was approx 2. It was a Kerry Blue Terrier so could be a bit excitable around other dogs but had always been great with people esp the youngest daughter. After the incident, the dog was at the vets within the hour. Yes it was difficult to leave him there as he was one of the family (and a pretty good trail dog), but it wasn’t half as hard as having to go to the hospital afterwards, to watch my daughter getting stitches in her head.

We use PGP at work too and I had exactly the same thing happen with updates screwing the MBR. I fixed it by decrypting the disk, which took about 10hrs, repairing the MBR with a W7 repair disk and encrypting the disk again. PGP made it a lot more complicated than it needed to be. I didn’t lose anything so you might be OK.

I’ve had mine for 4 years, it’s an 08 Plate, was £13,000 with 8k miles. My dash usually says 47ish but I’m mostly driving short journeys, when I go further it gets over 50mpg. I love it too, it drives well and is quick enough (I’m no petrolhead either). One thing I’ve found is that it needs more oil than other turbo diesels I’ve had (Saab 93 and Golf). It can get through a litre in a 3 or 4 months, the dealer that services it, told me it needs a litre every 1000 miles but I’ve not found it needs that much. The way the back seats fold up is really handy, I can fit 2 bikes, with front wheels off, in the space and still have the whole boot for everything else. I’d get it.

+1 for slowclimb – it’s quicker to the Buzzards nest and you get to do zoom or bust on the way down.

Not sure about St Cuthberts Way but the 3 Brethren route to Minch moor is pretty muddy at the moment. If you’re over Peebles way, the Gypsy Glen route is pretty good, it’s natural so might be a muddy too. The link includes a climb up to Glentress, you can just miss this out and ride the road back to Innerleithen, if you want to miss it out. HTH

It depends on how worn/stretched your chain was. I recently replaced my rear mech, cassette and chain because I bent the hanger, not through wear – it all still worked fine even though it was a 18months since I’d changed them. On testing it, the middle ring at the front skipped so badly that it was unrideable so I had to replace that too. I wouldn’t have thought of changing any of the front rings but the granny is now a bit skippy too. I have been told by various LBS that riding 50k per week, you should change your chain every 6 months.

Watched this last night too, it made me really angry. I will not be voting SNP again. The disregard for all the values that the SNP are touting as reasons to vote YES, are astounding. Those police were a disgrace. It’s a sad situation and as stated above, fingers crossed the wind farm goes ahead. If he pulls out, do you think he will put the land back to the way he found it? Or will we have to foot that bill?

IMHO the best of the Stanes is Kirroughtree but it’s also the furthest away. Innerleithen is brilliant but there are plenty of trails in GT to keep you entertained too. That said, Mabie and Dalbeattie are both with a visit and if you’re down that way you could fit do both in a day. Enjoy it whatever you choose

Totally agree with OP. I had a moment a few weeks ago on Caddonbank at Innerleithen when a dog was running back up the trail towards me while I was heading down. The owner was a good bit further on and couldn’t understand why I was so upset when I pointed out that he should keep his dog with him and under control.

    Scruff – Yes.

On the Copy/Paste thing. Yes it can be that easy but itunes stores music by artist so that if I want to copy a compilation with 20 songs, I have to look for each of the artist folders and copy them. I open doubletwist on my phone and laptop, they connect via wireless and I can copy by album. This is the only thing that was easier on an iphone. I’m still happier with my S3.

Poweramp is great. I use doubletwist to connect to itunes and download podcasts directly but I always use poweramp to listen to everything.

Correction – yep, I meant £60 per hour so £120.

Go to a good tattoo store with some ideas and get them to design something specifically for you. If the artist is any good, it will be much better looking than a bit of flash, and they will put more into it.

As above probably about 2hrs work all in so about £60.

Tried it. Didn’t work. Had to use an app to email them to myself. I didn’t want to store all my music etc on the sim, just my contacts. I can still do it on my work blackberry so it can’t be a technology limitation.

I like mine. I changed from an iphone4 and don’t miss it at all. The only thing that annoyed me was exporting my contacts – apple don’t let you save your contacts to your sim card as heaven forbid that you would change to anything else. The camera is much better and i love the bigger screen, it does mean the phone is bigger but I started to feel that the iphone was too small. All the android customisation is good too, plenty of options to play with.

I don’t use a case in general but for riding I keep it in my pack, in a seal skinz waterproof glove – just in case!

A server will be much faster. I have a Duet and a Buffalo NAS, whenever I want to use the remote to play anything, it scans the itunes library for a good 10 mins before it’s ready to play. Itunes library is 90Gb. I’ve stopped using it tbh, I have an Apple Airport express now, which works really well (if you have Apple stuff!)

Cougar, I tried that but ended up with all my Google contacts on my iphone. I am glad to be free from itunes though.

You’ll need MyContacts Backup to get you contacts copied across and you’ll need Doubletwist to get your S3 to sync with itunes. Oh, and if you’ve got any headphones with volume buttons and a mic, only the middle button will work.

I’ve just changed myself and apart from the issues above, it’s all been easy. The S3 is an impressive phone, really fast with a stunning screen.

Other apps to get are Flipboard and the Chrome browser.
