Yep I had a heater core replaced on my old Mk2 16V I'd heard about the recall and managed to get it done before the offical letter arrived.

There's a definate coolant smell and the screen is steaming up, last night when I cranked the temperature up to full steam came out of the central vents and then the screen completely misted up. Got the Haynes manual, also got a copy of the offical Audi workshop manual on disk so I'll be doing a bit of reading, think I'll be ending up with something like this to get to the heater matrix. Later models have an access hatch.

thanks for the comments guys, I'm loathe to use radweld etc and am fortunate enough to have a garage. The Car's got aircon so I think I'll need to get that emptied professionally before I start the job too.

That's good news as I've got a pair of 3/4s that the left hand pocket zip has torn and the seat is starting to de-laminate

Thanks, think it's a mixture of all three (too much coffee) probably not helping the de-hydration

Hi the fans are fine, had one go three years ago when running the car sits at 87degree coolant temp, I thought it might be the pressure cap on the expansion tank but it's not coming from there. Boiling up causing pressure sounds likely and I've heard of issues with a coolant pipe to the oil cooler leaking but not sure what engine that's on

Worldwide Warranty :? anyway got the hub back today looks absolutely mint, all that's left from the original hub is the lockring and bearings so well worth the postage cost to the US of A.

Many thanks to Chris King in Portland Oregon

Cheap cassettes are fine unles you run a rear hub with an alloy freehub body then the cheaper cassettes (non-spidered ones) rip the freehub body to shreds.

Success – email from teh guys in Oregon, we've stripped the bearings out and put them in a new shell and while we were at it we've put a new axle and axle end cap on as there was a little bit of corrosion. There will be no charge for repair, parts or shipping.

So why wouldn't evolution do the same thing???

Granted I bought this particular hub in the states.

Had to completely rebuild a wheel that had been built with alloy nipples and bin all the spokes they'd corroded that badly.

I'd use brass every time. If the guy really wants alloy nipples as others have said warn him of the truing issues

Lower as you need to be able to move around the bike a bit easier it's a lot more dynamic riding a mountain bike than a road biek.
