I was going to mention Dibley’s climbing prowess, as JonEdwards say’s it was unreal to watch his bike handling is phenominal really nice bloke too. Must try and get some fitness back this year and get my climbing legs back.

Gatesgarth on my old Soda but can’t remember from which side, I’ll have to check when I get home. Got to be in the right frame of mind if you think you’re gonna fail you will, it’s amazing what a positive attitude can make to a climb.

Never tried Skiddaw so that’s something I could aim for this year :-)

    I reverse bleed shimano brakes.

with the bike level and the caliper below the lever, take reservoir cap off.
Use a syringe with a small tube on, attach to bleed nipple.
open bleed nipple and draw all old fluid out with syringe.
take another syringe full of fresh fluid
    attach to bleed nipple
open bleed nipple and slowly force fluid back up thru the system until you have filled the reservoir.
Close bleed nipple, put cap back on and job done.
    Seems to work for me.

Definately no paint stopping the zerk. I left the old ones in whilst the frame was being powder coated then carefully removed the old ones to put new ones in. I’ll have a close look tonight and clean / refit them with smoe thread if I need to

I’ve got road BB7’s on the >X< and they work fine with standard shimano outer I think some linear outer would give a firmer feel though.

ok , my two peneth, there’s good and bad hand built wheels and good and bad machine built wheels. Properly built wheels will not need retentioning. I’ve only ever had one wheel need retensioning and it turned out to be a dodgy rim. Only spokes I’ve ever broken were on factory built wheels. I was fortunate enough to be taught how to build wheels by a guy that knew his stuff and was a stickler for attention to detail. Upon reading Roger Musson’s book I was well pleased to find that a lot of what Roger advised I was already doing. My latest bike has factory built wheels and when I have a moment I’ll check and retension them as out of the box they weren’t true, if that means backing all the spokes off back to a base tension and starting from there so be it. Fortunately I enjoy building wheels and don’t do it for a living but there is a lot of bollocks talked about it being a black art. Oh and back to the original question if you know the guy at the LBS and trust him use him, if you’re looking to save cash it’s a no brainer.

    £2.65 of duty per gallon, I though t tax was 62% so at current prices of £1.29 per gallon that’s 1.29 * 4.546 * 0.62 = £3.63

@molgrips and the 30mpg car choice. My motor’s 13 year old and still going strong so why change it. When I bought it low 30’s mpg was the norm for turbo petrol estates which is what I’ve got. It’ll do mid 30’s on a long run but not when fully loaded with people and bikes. Oh how I wish I could afford to change my car but it’s not financially viable so the hike in fuel does affect me and it only get’s used for necessitie’s and as said it’s nice to ride Dales, Lakes, and North York Moors. As GeordiePaul also pointed out is does affect group rides away from where the club’s based as people just can’t afford the cost as regularly.

Well I think it’s a crock of $hit, It now costs over £70 to tank up my motor and I only use it on weekends at 30mpg that’s 20p per mile in fuel alone Unfortunately I can’t afford to change motor’s so I have to stick with what I’ve got. We used to head to the Dales and North York moors every other weekend to ride but can’t afford it now thanks to the fuel costs. I’m just glad I don’t have to use the car to get to work otherwise I’d just be pouring more cash into the govenments pockets.

maxray – steering definately isn’t as quick as my Kenisis Evo was or my road bike is, first few miles it did feel a bit sluggish but soon got used to it, took it along some singletrack and it was plenty quick enough and really good fun, commuted in this morning and it weaved thru traffic with ease.

Hi fitted non UST 2.35 Kevlar Highrollers to a set of crests easily and they blew up but did burp off. So replaced with a Schwalbe Nobby Nic 2.25 UST and it was a bugger to fit but did manage without tyre levers, it blew up with a hand pump it was that tight :)

Loved my Soda rode and raced it everywhere until it cracked, bought a Soul to fill the void until the new Soda arrived and still riding the Soul. Granted I haven’t tried the new Soda but it would have to be a lot better to ride to get me to part with the cash. I’ve had a few Ti frames and still the nicest to ride was a Fat Ti but it was a tad too small otherwise I’d still have it. It also had a wishbone rear end so must be something in that :)

That happend to the girlfriends mech the spring hadn’t snapped just popped inside, I took it apart put it back together and it’s still working. There’s a small allen key grub screw that you have to undo to get the jockey wheel cage off.

Thanks toys, I'll check the price of the fan, it'll be due a service to, have replaced fans myself and know that as it's a fanned flue boiler once the fan stops so does the boiler. May just bite the bullet and get the fan in ready for when it fails.

I wear the regular fit 32/24 and the slim 32 and 34 waist ones wouldn't go over my thighs and I'm only 12 stone if that's any help. The regular are a comfy/slightly baggy fit for me
