Carhartt do some nice parka style winter jackets that are extreme warm, water/wind resistant and robust. Quite often they dump last seasons stuff at half price on the website. Got one of the goosedown parkas last year. Don’t ever need anything more than a single layer underneath.

I went to the Brecon Beacons. For a week. In the rain. And the bus crashed on the way there.

But I did get to see a girls boobs for the first time. Brilliant trip.

    No I’m not a teacher :-)

My brother in law who knows his denim etc (makes totally bespoke clothing for a living) reckons that, unless you spend a least couple of hundred and do your homework in the quality etc, uniqlo offer the best quality anywhere on the high street.

Thinking of slackening a canyon carbon hardtail frame from 70 deg to 68.5 deg. That’d be OK wouldn’t it? Any down sides to the process? I’ve heard the headsets creak like a very creaky thing? Is that true or internet bollocks?

    Well played Bangladesh.

We are absolute toilet against spinners. India are going to murder us.

I think we’re seeing the glimpses of how the crash bang wallop approach of our players comes unstuck when it’s properly tested.

Yup. Right footed but lead with the left, just like skateboarding. Stronger leg stays back for balance.

I lived on the Icknield Way in a village called Chinnor as a child. The chalk was horribly sticky in winter and made cycling a nightmare.

No way Globalti. So did I. If you are late 30s / early 40s we probably crossed paths.

The chalk was fun in the winter. Got a big scar on my chin after a crash coming down Donkey Lane at speed.

if you were going to get a smack it would have happened by now. Sounds like a loud mouth more than anything else.

Just be pleasant to him. If he does or says anything else that’s beyond being a nob then gently explain to him that after he threatened you decided to let it go, but as it’s carrying on you’ll probably have to get the cops involved which would be a shame as you’ve no intentions of moving anywhere and it would be better to be civil than the alternative. The best way to do this is to be entirely reasonable with him.

Make sure you invite a few mates round in the next week or two for a few noisy beers when he’s at home.

Also make sure he sees you talking to people who live in your road.

I get the reason for e-bikes.

It’s great that folks that can use them get access that they otherwise wouldn’t have. That’s fantastic.

A bicycle is powered by the rider.

They are NOT bicycles in my opinion because that’s not what it’s about.

Mopeds, powered assists, whatever. Not bicycles. Different things. Doesn’t mean that those who need them are somehow less worthy or important.

    Not bicycles. Not even close.

Oh god. So many lies, so little time…..I don’t know where to start.

Convinced an ex that tesco was selling gm chickens which is why there were six legs in a pack. She got quite irate with them and went in to complain as I recall
Gave my mate some advice on how to get rid of ‘chimney slugs’ from his house (he’d found a few in the front room after a bit of rain) which involved him pushing balloons filled with beer up the afore mentioned chimney and bursting them.
Told our apprentice that the duke of Edinburgh was visiting incognito and got him to stand by reception and bow to any ageing bald men in suits. For 4 hours.

    There’s many many more.

I scarpered due to an inability to hold my fat due to her rather strong lower section.

    Bravo!

In my junior days I arranged for some fairly prestigious clients from the Far East to meet us at Chestfield in Kent. Sorted flights, hotels, trains etc.

They were late. Very late. So I phoned them.

They were in Chesterfield. And suprrising OK about it.

An accident is defined as an unplanned occurrence. Generally, no actually, always this is because the outcome is not planned or desired. No one sets out to kill or be killed. We are human, we make errors on the bike and in the car. You can mitigate against your own errors by riding and driving safely, within the margins and to the abilities of other road users to anticipate your actions, not your own mad skillz . This is not failsafe. You cannot mitigate against the errors of others but you can help to potentially limit the consequences by being aware, being smart and not taking chances, particularly ones that have paid off before.

Have you thought about BMX racing? Great for bike handling skills, hugely good fun and good for developing fitness. Not massively expensive and I’ve found junior racing to be incredibly positive and inclusive.

My 8 year old loves BMX and MTB and uses the skills in the former when he’s riding the latter.

It’s neither as far as I can see with limited knowledge.

Storyline? Yes, many. I don’t know what most of them are yet but I’ve uncovered hints of many things that clearly continue.

Economy? Yes, there is an economy across the universe and many independent traders trying to fix a deal for themselves.

Tell you what actually, the best thing so far is usually the worst thing. The grind. I need another 20 units of zinc to make a warp cell to let me blast out of this solar system. The space station and the planetary trading post aren’t playing ball, nor are any of the other pilots who are landing, selling their shit and taking off again. So I’ll have to go walkabout on the planet to find it. I know know where to find zinc (I’m learning!), so off I toddle to grind out the resource. Only this is a totally unique planet that I discovered half an hour ago (it’s named after one of my kids) and on the way to find the zinc I discover half a dozen new species of animal, a proper **** of a giant plant that stings me when I get close to it, a weird alien monolith that vibrates some kind of message to me and then get lost in a massive cave system with all kinds of bioluminescent flaura and fauna. Zinc. Oh yeah the zinc. Now I like this. I like being distracted. Not in a grand theft auto nihilistic style, but genuinely getting sidetracked by things that you know are completely unique to this world.

Does Elite or Spore do this? If not, then no, it’s not the same.

    Star Citizen looks amazing

No mans sky just looks like it won’t do that – arcadey feel, poor graphics, poor gameplay and no story line to rope you in.

Sorry, but that’s bollocks. The real truth is that no-one knows the stories yet and actually the gameplay matches the feel of the game. I like a good sim as much as the next nerd. I also like stepping into the pages of a 1950s technicolour sci fi comic and exploring something so vast I know that I’ll only ever see my own reflection.

I played it last night when it came out in the uk. Got to bed at 4am.

I really like it. It makes you feel very, very small in a giant universe. Which sounds a bit shit I know. The exploration is lovely, the lack of a linear path and any real instructions makes you feel completely alone. Which is very different and very appealing. Particularly once you get the hang of creating items and interacting with the various races who inhabit your corner the confidence to warp into new solar systems and explore new worlds is palpable.

My personal experience is that the planets on the very edge where you begin are pretty barren and things start to get more interesting the more you learn and interact

My two kids love it, LOVE IT. I’d not really thought it was their kind of thing but they are away! Dogfighting against pirates, bartering with moody aliens, discovering and naming new life forms and skimming across planets to find relics etc is just the beginning. It’s complete hugeness, uniqueness and feeling of genuine adventure is something I’ve never experienced before in a game.

    Star Wars episode 4 in 1977. I was 5.

I clearly remember coming out of the cinema feeling like the top of my head had erupted with new ideas and new horizons. I don’t think I expressed it like that at the time though. Probably just wanted a pee and an ice cream.

After an absolutely shit week at work (mass redundancies at work of me and my team and others , through absolutely no fault of our own) I needed a good one. Got one. Lovely Friday night beer up with a very good mate, Saturday spent buying the youngest progeny his birthday present and eating lovely food. Sunday spent on the beach and in the water (we live five minute walk away). The water was warm and the sea was bloody lovely. Totally ready to go to work tomorrow to fight like a bastard for the staff. Bring it.

THAT gentlemen is how you do it.

I reckon that’s got to be the biggest shock on the last 20 years of international sport. And it really wasn’t in any doubt.

The dragon is awake it seems.
