Is he short/tall/average for his age? The bar height and width varies quite a lot.

MGP do some nice ones. Approx 80 quid gets you something upgradable (yes you will) and entirely good enough to start off.

My ten year old is massively into scooting and the kit these days is bloody brilliant.

I’ve been in FE for almost a decade. It’s strange beast.

The senior leadership team, the financial status of the college and your local area priorities will have a massive impact on the type and quality of student enrolement and their motivations.

The quality of the senior leaders is the biggest influence in my experience. Do your research thoroughly and try and speak to a few people who work there. If they are good it’s a great sector to work in.

FE is a business. Students earn the business money, they don’t want to lose studentshttp://

I’ve worked for long periods at the sharp end of the disciplinary process and this is only a partial picture. Given that for many learners FE represents the last opportunity, there is a degree of latitude for disruptive behaviour/poor attendance etc. But only a degree of it. Again, it’s down to the motivations of the leadership.

I’m not sure I blindly follow any law. Not knowingly.

I’ve deliberately and thoughtfully ignored many laws over the years. Generally I follow my own moral compass and refreshingly it seems to be fairly well harmonised with statute law. Where there are differences I put my hood up, don’t draw attention to myself and do as I wish.

    As do many I’d imagine.

Who is worse? Frapercino rapha hipster wannabes or total mix and match pro kit ****? At least with the first lot they are buying into the latest fashionable hobby. With the mix and matchers they always offer the excuse that it was cheap and it works well. Yeah right, you love the advertising! Makes up for all of the disappointments in your life. Don’t even get me started on the retro jersey lot. Insufferable bellends.

Rapha – their passion for the history, traditions and mystique of cycling matches mine. The high prices reflect the commitment required to be a real cyclist.

I think I’d give evil a go now. If it broke I’d just go after the seller for recompense if the company were stroppy. They can argue the toss with the manufacturer.

Trek – don’t know why and I couldn’t care less about the Armstrong connection.

Marin – for some reason they don’t strike me as being a proper mtb brand. The latest release is just amusing. That said, I used to ride a nail trail back in the 90s and it was the bollocks.

Saracen – still damaged by ‘that’ comment. Probably very unfairly.

Raleigh – cheap shit image. And cheap shit bikes from what I’ve seen. Be great if they made a proper comeback.

Quite happy to ride giant, kona, specialized etc. So not a boutique thing. More of n image thing maybe. Which makes me just as shallow.

agree with all of the above about cruisers. Far safer than 20″ and still bloody lethal if you don’t get your weight over the front/back/god knows where.

Get a full face lid. Before you even set foot on a proper track. And some body armour. Falling off hurts.

Nice floval up there. I picked up an intense podium for not unreasonable money and ride weekly with my lad and his team. I’m the oldest by 26 years! And slowest.

    Bloody kids.

I like risers. Even low risers because of the position they move my elbows to. Current fannying around with position on a 29er, 100mm, 70deg ha. 70mm, 0deg and 740 Thomson trail bars seems to feel ok. Probably won’t next week as another idea comes my way…

    Is there a right answer?

Ridgeway end to end and SDW end to end

Lots of local riding and lots of shorter easier routes with my lad who is getting seriously into mtb.

Lots of time at the race track as bmx appears to be taking over the household! This is a very good thing, but it does mean I’m permanently injured!

I remember walking into town on a Saturday evening on summer in the 90s. I heard wonderwall playing out of so many windows it was funny. When I got into the centre of town I heard it again – it was coming from the practice hall for the Canterbury cathedral choir. Sounded incredible. IMO oasis did nothing that hadn’t been done before and if you play their stuff back2back with many other bands they come off second best.

But, they harnessed a moment, an attitude and time like no other and I respect them for that. We were **** invincible! :-)

It’s a phenomenon that’s been around for a while now. Usually limited to revenge and gang related stuff. Having your face burnt off is a big stimulation for doing whatever you are told to. And a big motivation for paying up on time. Suspect it’s that.

Had a bit of an odd week.

On Monday I found out that I’m a named beneficiary in a significant discretionary trust set up by an ancient and long passed away relative. Kind of changes the landscape for my family. Which is great obviously but it’s kept me awake for most of the nights since. I feel very odd about the whole thing.

Have done the sum total of **** all at work which includes working on a personal project that could go very large if I could just be motivated enough to finish the thing.

Have splurged on some new bike stuff which is nice. I tend to go 3 or so years between splurges so lots of packages from chain reaction etc have been arriving.

Looking forward to 4 x BMX rides at the local track with number 2 son and 4 x MTB rides with mates over the bank holiday.

Nice one OP. My 79 year old father in law has just buggered off to Europe on his Honda pan-european. Not sure when he’s back. Apparently depends on the string of ladies putting him up :-)

My favourite joke has the punch line ” know it? I bloody wrote it” you can make that joke as disgusting as you want

Ah the pianist joke. One of the very best!

‘They both get sucked off in bogs’ is another superb punchline.

BMX track tomorrow for a coaching session on my new second hand intense cruiser (maybe my favouritest bike EVER). Perhaps a cheeky spin out on the mtb in the evening. Sunday is a write off as I’m at Wembley to support the mighty yellows.

It’s going to go full circle in my opinion. A lot of older, more desirable houses were built by the busy roads. Nowadays it’s probably one of the most off putting aspects of a house. I reckon in 20 years or so when every car is electric and the pollution levels are much lower (same for the noise pollution) the location will become desirable again.

I’m guessing that Kilo works with/for CEOP. Very, very difficult and completely essential job. During my safeguarding time I’ve been involved with horrible cases of abuse that have stayed with me ever since. Doing that on a daily basis must be very, very challenging. Big respect and thanks.

    I’ve done few different things.

Started off by lazing around in my twenties and working dead end jobs to pay the rent, go to raves and buy bike bits. Worked nights in factories, days in canteens, groundswork, was a postie for a bit.

Then decided I wanted a proper job so got work as a health & safety advisor in the oil industry (like you do)

Got bored of that and moved into the public sector and became a lead for safeguarding and security.

Now manage a big FE Estate which is ok but not really what I want to do for much longer. Currently working out an exit into my next thing which is community and individual resilience building/measurement for public sector organisations to develop and deliver more effective services. Suspect that this will be a strike out on my own as a consultant which could be fun.

I’ll get bored of that, or something else will catch my eye at some point I’m sure.
