The ashes series of 2005. A full summer of scintillating, topsy turvy cricket that went to the final day of the final test with everything to play for. After decades of decline we suddenly had a team. A bloody good team that could bat, bowl and catch the bloody ball! And we won the ashes back. I personally don’t think there is a sweeter triumph in sport than that. More impressive, more valuable, more important? Perhaps. Sweeter. Nope.

Is it your own private ‘festival’ captain? Are you being ‘monitored’ by security? :-)

Does anyone else find these kind of stages incredibly stressful to watch live?

Haves looked at at about 10 different vids now I’d still say there was a deliberate elbow by Sagan.

It seems to me that Cavendish gets the jump on the same gap and is slightly ahead of Sagan as they go for the same space. Cavendish is travelling in a straight line. Sagan veers across into the same space and leads with his elbow.

Pretty straightforward really. There’s always a bit of barging but if you cut someone up and lead with your elbow what are the race officials supposed to do?

Makes the green jersey interesting now!

Cav was on the right wheel. Initially I thought Sagan was forced across in front of him by someone else but I don’t think so from the replay.

There are pictures of Sagan trying to apologise to Cav on the way back to the bus. Cav didn’t seem particularly receptive.

Having seen the overhead, that’s a deliberate elbow from Sagan. 100%

Couple of nice ones on the bay – one has 45 mins to go!

We the people are a decent brand. Just google the make and steer clear of the obvious crap.

Are your kids part of a club with structured training sessions? Very hard to get kids to practice when they are just riding around with Dad.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again now I’ve got some first hand experience – BMX racing.

Since last October my lad has been properly coached and is training every Saturday and every Wednesday night (since April). His bike skills have developed exponentially. He can pump, manual (bit sketchy still) and jump now. Structured coaching and a track that he learns to ride alongside other riders has made far more difference to his skills than just riding around with his dad.

When he gets on his mtb now the difference in skill and speed that he can hold is palpable.

Gray Nicolls powerspot for me. Turned many a forward defensive into a boundary.

What were those utterly pointless batting gloves called? White with green pointy rubber bits I think.

The entries for Kent are surprising lacking.

Bigbury Camp is there. It was besieged by the roman 7th legion led by a young Julius Caesar and fell after a titanic battle. The romans then marched down the stour valley to Chilham where the local tribes ripped the 7th a new one.

I know of at least 3 more within a 5 mile radius that aren’t marked. Work in progress I guess.

    Thanks for sharing!

It’s very, very warm down here on the Kent coast.

Yesterday was pretty hectic, 3 hours of BMX race training, then paint balling, then a lovely walk in the country, then swimming and beer on the beach.

Today is more relaxed – just swimming in the sea later on.

    Q. Why did you decide on an e-bike rather than the conventional method of getting faster/keeping up with your mates?

My 10 year old listens to queen and loves animated films from yesteryear

My 8 year old listens to ac/dc, deep purple and cream!

Most 16-21 year olds I know (I work in FE so it’s quite a few) are fully conversant with old bands. Had a great conversation with one yesterday about husker du. Loads of cure & clash t-shirts being worn around the college at the minute.

The young uns get it, they just aren’t prepared to like or rate things because we do.

Things are as they should be.

Aikido is barely a martial art

    LOL! That’s hilarious

My friend is an aikido black belt.

Oh, you do know that they wear the hakama and that ‘black belt’ is not a recognised term? Course you do. Perhaps it’s because it’s barely a martial art eh? :-)

Judo is an excellent place to start. They’ll learn good habits, good posture and how to use the other person’s force against them. Plus there’s a fairly quick progression through the belts which keeps things fun and gives a sense of progession and achievement.

My missus trains in Iwama Aikido. it’s fair to say that the progression rate is not considered to be quick :-) good martial art though. My security teams use elements of it for control and restraint. Very effective, highly painful and no lasting damage.

Lunge – is there a way you can use strava or something so we can track your progress in real time?

Perhaps a little more information on the route. I’m thinking maybe the odd ‘motivational’ message on the road might be amusing

I’m more cynical than most when it comes to politicians, particularly the tories.

But, no, I don’t think this is politically driven. The attack recently has shown a degree of sophistication and planning beyond the capacity of a single person. Clearly the police have an idea of the people/numbers involved, clearly they haven’t located them all and the concern will be that the rest of the cell will bring forward other plans before they located. Hence the escalation.

I’ll never forget a bloke inviting me out on a ride but telling me ‘look, don’t get discouraged when I drop you on the hills. I’ll wait at the top for you’

:-) you can guess the rest.

Nicely half wheel them. If they’ve been riding a lot recently they’ll know when they get home that it’s been a bit of kicking. And they’ll respect you for not being (too much of) a dick about it.

There was a beer on tap at my local called ‘navigation’. It was cheap, tasted like special brew on steroids and was the tipple of choice for all of the underage drinkers.

Found out many years later that the landlord ‘mixed’ it himself from the slops and added whatever cheap spirits he had to hand.

    It was dynamite.

Chill out and let nature take its course I reckon.

Both of my lads used a balance bike and could ride a proper bike before they were four. Then….nothing. Neither were really interested until they were 7 or 8. The eldest, now 10, still isn’t that bothered. Likes cruising around on his bmx and much prefers his stunt scooter and wants to learn to surf. The youngest, nearly 9, is massively into racing bmx and riding mtb and has been for about 12 months. His decision though. Getting coached is a good start as it isn’t mum or dad and there’s other kids there at varying stages of radness. Quite motivating for young uns!
