Did mine on Tuesday, a very light cut, hardly got any grass off, but picked up a few windblown twigs and leaves. It left it clean and tidy and ready for the first growth.

    Looks nice too.

Sounds similar to my lurgy. It was the crackling that caused the Doc concern and I was given antibiotics as he suspected Pneumonia. They worked; crackling gone but the cough some weeks later is still in residence.

Regular doses of hot lemon and honey, ease it but don’t get rid of it, similarly at night slowly sucking on a werthers obviously causes enough saliva to ease the passages.

I went back to my Doc as I was feeling better after the Pneumonia but was concerned about the cough. In the nicest possible way was told that the cough was an afer effect of the infection and I was going to have the MTFU for a few more weeks!

If you do find a solution, let me know, as its irritating not just me but the whole household!

Good luck in finding some. Michelin have run out, Blackcircles have a few odd sizes left, Oponeo similarly.
You may find it easier going to your local tyre fitter!
I speak from the experience of trying to find some last week.

I could only think that as water gets into the ‘pole’ then there is every chance it enters the extension cable, at which point I guess there’s a chance of the aluminium pole becoming live!!

I’ve got an A4 3.0l Allroad. Had it a year from new, absolutely no problem with it. Lovely smooth engine, fantastic gearbox.
I used to have an A6 Allroad, which was huge, and we do now notice the difference in load carrying capacity.
Having said that the A4 feels faster in acceleration, probably because its a lighter vehicle.
A great car for munching the long distance miles. I can get 50mpg out of it…….but not very often, you have to drive it very very carefully! More normally I get low 40’s.
My only complaint……….and it’s a ridiculous one really, but ours came with a sunroof. This lowers the roof height by an inch or so and I keep banging my head!

Six weeks of pain, six months of aching here.
You’ve broken bones in your chest, they won’t fix in a few days or weeks. Time for a bit of rest and reflection.
Alternatively, you could go to the Cairngorms damage them even further and still be suffering by Christmas. Your choice, but I would go with the STW collective and recommend you rake it easy.

Talk of product placement!…………I take it Kev is sponsored by Canada Goose. Every shot, a Down Jacket, Puffa Jacket, Sleeveless Vest.
He must be boiling in some shots, the number of layers he’s wearing!

if you’re ever going to see your 75 ‘Lux let me know

Sorry Greg, the 75 Lux though I don’t use it much is the best lens I’ve ever owned. Built in Canada about 35 yrs ago, it’s quality is superb. Just a pleasure to even hold it. It would work well on your SL but I’m not ever going to move it on!

Ooh an M10 eh, very nice.

Out of interest, how much shadow or highlight detail have you pulled back on that image?

It’s what the M was designed for!…………….No pulling back of the shadows, but I gave the highlights a good tweak so as to increase the depth of the clouds.

Yeah and I can go down to the market and buy a bike with a frame, two wheels, a chain and with pedals!
But I don’t. I go to a quality LBS and buy what to me is quality kit with quality advice!

Yep, I’ve got a Mountain Shirt. Warm, waterproof and looks fantastic. Yes, expensive but you only need to look at the quality.
Their customer service is brilliant, and the packaging that it drives in is a work of art!
    Mrs YP has one too!

I’ve used RentalCars.com a few times, Canada, Europe and the States, never once had an issue and would use again. Always cheaper than going through the main sites, and you can pick and choose which rental company you use.

    Leica M10, Summilux, 35, 50 and 75mm lenses.
Used to have bags of Canon SLR cameras, lenses, filters and everything else. Sold the lot and went rangefinder……..No regrets.

I think you are saying that the section of road where you were caught is normally limited to 50 mph. However for some reason it had been reduced to 30 mph?
If you are confident that this is the case then you can request the police provide you with details of the Road Traffic Regulation Order that details the speed reduction, details the dates over which the reduction takes place and the locations where it should be.
You may find that the officer who actually checked you wasn’t aware of such an order being in place.
Alternatively, you may find everything was in order, in which case, suck it up.

Considering the nightmare scenario of a huge Tory victory, I expect we are going to have to get used to the destruction of our education system (and the health service, social care, policing, Brexit, oh the list is endless). FFS we’re all screwed.

A days walk to the bottom of the GC is hard! Don’t underestimate it. The easy bit is at the beginning!! I did it when very fit a couple of years ago. Had loads of water, energy bars and fruit.
Obviously the loads I had wasn’t enough. Ran out of water on the way back up, and wow, was the last thousand feet of ascent hard work. No water, loads of energy consumption and heat weren’t the ideal combo. I got out, without any issues, but I suspect it would have been easy to get to de-hydrated.
Yes, it can be done if you’re fit enough but may I suggest you double the amount of water you think you’ll need!
    Enjoy.

Also this Guardian article. The M-E is now a little dated, essentially a cut down M9. Things have moved on to the 240 and M10 but you get the gist.

Both what Lexhorton and Geetee1972 say. I’ve progressed through the years from a Zenit E, Prakitika, Cosina, and numerous Canons before finally being able to afford a digital M and lenses. The quality of the build and solidity of the camera is awesome. The lenses are sublime. Never in all my photography have I achieved such clarity and sharpness. To shoot on an M with a wide open lens gives an image that I’ve never achieved with mainstream SLR’s. That’s no criticism of mainstream camera’s and lenses; most are awesome and with the right person behind the lens, very capable. But a Leica range finder though not easy or fast to use, produces an image that looks like no other in the digital world. You only need to go into some photo exhibitions and within seconds can see that Leica ‘look’.
I agree with Lexhorton in that you are less obtrusive. You can take photographs and people either don’t seem to mind or don’t see you.
I used to consider myself a photographer of Landscapes, but since the arrival of the M, I now get as much pleasure from street photography.
Yes, the Leica system is expensive, perhaps out of the reach of many. But many things in life are, we have to make many choices and decisions. Mine was to forgo some other ‘luxuries’ in life, save and buy a camera that I’d dreamt of for decades.

drivers of 40-60 ton articulated trucks are a far greater hazard

Think you need to look at weights of vehicles on a road. 40-44 tonne yes. 60 tonne not really very common without Special Types approval.

Huge tractors even bigger trailers. What happened to the art of waiting for an opposing vehicle. No, I’ll drive the nearside over the verge, cut it up and leave mud all over the road for drivers and cyclists to battle through. Fertilizer sacks and hay bale plastic strewn all over the countryside.
Big tractor hauling a huge weight at relatively high speed. The energy is enormous. Very little chance of stopping in a safe distance.
I thought driving a tractor exempted you from mobile phone laws!!!!

I don’t see what the issue is. I don’t use PS or LR I prefer putting my photo’s via Nik software. However in years gone by when I had a darkroom, you were taught to dodge and burn, try all sorts of effects and put the wet image through toners.
If when you’d printed, and it still wasn’t right you could use brush and ink to paint out blemishes.
All thats occurring now is a digital version of what we did 40 years ago.
I do however agree, that taking out people or even a factory across the river is perhaps taking it a bit too far, depending of course on what you are trying to portray.
Other than that, take a look at old videos of the like of Adams and see how he builds up his landscape images into a photograph.
No, I don’t see what the issue is.

Helsport Varanger here too. Great tent, loads of room, easy to erect.
Looks a bit different on any campsite. Bought it off Tamarack in Lancashire. They often have deals especially if you sign up.

Their white T shirts are the best. Figures may be just a bit out but about £15 for 6. They are brilliant quality and look good. For under £4 each, an near throw away price.

Greg, I’m a big fan of your style of photography, I always enjoy viewing them on here or Flickr. I would go so far to say that your style has encouraged me on occasions to attempt to use similar techniques. Long may your enthusiasm and approach to photography continue.
I’ve read your article, but am not sure where its coming from or going to. I agree with your philosophies but this reminds me of a comedic portrayal of art. Perhaps I’m unused to reading this type of article, but it appears very high brow in an attempt to describe your approach.
Please keep up the great work.

Am genuinely very sorry for the injuries caused. Must be a right pain!
What did your OH do to mitigate the effects of the ice? I assume she knew it was icy? What had the weather forecast predicted? Had she previously scraped ice from her car and whilst driving it seen the temperature? Did the car park look different, i.e. white with ice? What shoes was she wearing? If she knew it was icy did she wear those Yaktrax type grippers?
I’m with everyone else. I know its difficult for both of you, but shit happens!

Was there just a few days ago. Spent Christmas in the Park before a huge storm forced us to move on. Easy to say, you need lodging within the park, but its probably quite expensive in high season. There are plenty of places just outside the park edges, but nothing beats getting up at dawn and walking the valley floor when its quiet and seeing the falls and faces with no one else about.
There are plenty of hikes from the valley, but the hours walk up to Inspiration Point takes some beating when compared to some of the longer hikes.
If you do have a suitable vehicle i.e. not an R.V. then the road up and through Tioga Pass on Hwy 120 must be one of the worlds best drives.

Just to continue, what is not shown on the snap which others who know the site are aware of, is to the right of the photograph and not seen is a large car park. The dropped kerb is not for vehicular access but to allow disabled to move from the car park onto the pavement.
No, the pavement is not completely blocked. Anyone could walk around the vehicle. What upset me and many other users of the site was that the driver of the vehicle ignored all the local parking arrangements by which those with children and the disabled are required to use. Instead the driver thought he was able to park where others don’t.
The precedent has been set, and others will now avail themselves of the pavement parking idea.
Anyway, a truce has been negotiated and for the moment both sides are winding their necks in. Thanks for the advice.

The offending car, parked on the approach to a centre on the centres land.
I understand it wasn’t parked illegally. I never suggested it was. My thought is that it is inconsiderate considering everyone else has to find a proper place.

Are you sure? I always thought he used a Leica M rangefinder camera and a 28mm lens.

I took it on a 50mm prime. Not him. Yes I believe he uses a 28mm
