Yes, was in very early. We are a ‘hub’ school, and though not yet full of children from other schools, there is a lot of planning and organisation to do in preparation for the first group to arrive tomorrow, and then increasing through the week.
Easter holidays are cancelled, and I suspect before too long weekends will go too.
Who cares; we all need to do something.

I was tested last November, with very similar levels to OP. I worked hard for 2 months, lost 21 pounds, ate nothing but porridge, oily fish, nuts, etc etc. After two months it had gone down to safe, normal levels.
Checked again last week, whilst still on a near perfect diet and not putting on any weight. If anything I was exercising more than I was. Still no cheese, no dairy etc, perhaps a bit of chocolate, but still maintaining a very careful diet, and it was back up to 7.0.
Awaiting a call from my GP to prescribe Statins. I guess its a no brainer.

The case is brilliant, I’d love to have something similar.

I see the availability of the case itself, but how did you cut all the recesses for the tools?

The ones I see are all removable squares, you have managed to include curves etc..

My thought is that if I used a hot knife, I wouldn’t get the straight lines and I would burn the foam.

    Give us a clue!

Does anyone know if it is true that he will automatically be removed from firearms duty permanently?

No, he/she probably won’t be suspended permanently. They are almost certainly suspended from operational firearms duties at the moment, partly to permit an investigation to proceed and partly to allow the officer and their family to have a break from the stresses of the role.
Contrary to Plus-Ones thoughts, shooting an individual (particularly at a moments notice) is quite a stressful experience!!!!!
Providing the officer and team are exonerated and providing they are willing to continue their role, there is no reason they can’t return to normal operational duties.
It is worth remembering that all AFO’s are volunteers, and get paid no more than a bobby walking the beat in any part of the U.K. (London weighting notwithstanding)

Plus One. Have you ever carried a gun, are you a trained Firearms Officer? Have you ever stood infront of anyone pointing a loaded gun at you? Do you know what it’s like.
Perhaps you’d like to elaborate on your own experiences, I’d like to know how they compare with mine.

I have a couple of Shoei’s which are far better than my old ‘job’ Schuberths. I don’t know if you are anywhere near Guildford (I’m not but I travelled the length of the country to see them and get a new suit), but Motolegends are brilliantly helpful.
If not, then find your helmet at the cheapest net price possible, and Motolegends will beat that price by 10%.

We’ve just got a new house, where the builder specified that the kitchen come from BenchMarx. It was our choice, in the units and design we wanted. We were given a price we could spend and any excess was to be made up by us.
What we ended up with was great, we really like it, we spent half of the money on a Corian work top, but that itself makes the kitchen.
It was fitted by the builder, and to be honest we are very happy with what we’ve got. I don’t know where BenchMarx come in the scale of pricing, I suspect they are at the cheaper end, but the units appear well constructed, and six months in we have no issues.

Why is it that whenever a subject comes up at home, then STW has an appropriate thread just started!!
    Am watching with great interest.
My own BP has for the last 5 years been on the edge. Probably about 135/80. However over the last couple of months due to a knee injury and lack of exercise its being slowly rising. Now hovering at 165/90
I’m off to see the Doc tomorrow morning. I never knew about caffeine. I don’t drink much coffee but stopped 15 mins ago when I read this thread. I drink a couple of beers a week and am a stone overweight.
Hopefully I’ll get a telling off and told to shed a few pounds. I only had my Meniscus fixed 5 days ago, so am laid off for another week or so, I could certainly start getting fitter. I only ran a half marathon a couple of months ago; where has the fitness gone??

Has anyone tried a Trakke bag. Before this thread became active I ordered a Wee Lug. It was quite expensive!!
It’s well made and looks ok, but there’s just something about it. It’s quite basic for the price. That said I like the cotton finish
It is currently sat unused in the kitchen. Do I like it or not? Do I want it or not?
Just not sure, I need convincing!

Matt_Outandabout…….. I hate to correct you, but I don’t think Cumbria never had Sapphires, certainly not as Motorway cars, they had very few Sierras, mainly XR4i’s, these weren’t motorway cars either. The photo you show isn’t a car in Cumbria livery, it isn’t a Cumbrian registered number, and isn’t a Cumbria Logo on the ROS arch, in fact it looks to me like a Nottinghamshire car and if its on the bridge between Lazonby and KO then its a long way from home.

I guess other than the odd few days here and there I’ve run nearly every day for the last 25 years. It is almost tear jerking to think its over!!! Sixty years old and on the scrapheap!
Currently I can ride a bike, but its not easy, the knee becomes quite sore. The Consultant (who I really trust) suggests it will be just pissing off the currently swollen knee and not damaging it further, he’s a cyclist himself and recommends that at the moment I don’t push it. I can walk a few miles on road, but wouldn’t like to do a mountain walk with the stresses on the knee that would be inevitable. Any more than a few road miles makes it pretty sore the next day.
Whilst waiting for the op, I feel a little lost, I hate swimming, so feeling somehow I need to burn energy!

I’d go with what has bee said before. It has arrived in that position very recently. If it were from Halifax or any other plane from that era, then it would have been there for decades and covered in the detritus of a wood. My first point of contact would be the nearest air museum to see if it has been stolen, alternatively contact the Police, they may have a record of loss.

I used to use Apple Aperture and NIK software, but as they moved on so did I. It was quite a lengthy process trying (and buying) different editors, as I tried to find what I was comfortable with. Luminar was ok, Affinity, brilliant, but not what I really wanted. Capture One awesome but very expensive. DXO (NIK) never worked, it is buggy with some Mac’s and I had to fight hard to get my money back as it is a bug they are aware of. Finally I settled on ON1. I think it is awesome. The ability to develop a picture and add any adjustment I want. I often convert to Black & White and it works just fine. I’ve just this week updated to the 2019.5 version and it works seamlessly with my RAW images.
With most of them you can try before you buy. Often 30 days isn’t enough unless you are a prolific photographer and determined software analyst!
Read reviews and experiment, but beware those that say that A is better then B which is better than C at RAW development, I really couldn’t determine that much difference, particularly when viewed on a laptop.

Textile, leather is probably better if you have an off on track, and slide without rolling or hitting anything, but unfortunately that rarely happens for road riders. Textile will take scrapes and the armour provide a degree of impact protection. Leather is useless in the wet; think of an old car wash leather, and once wet its heavy and cold.
Textile depending on how much you want to spend can be 100% waterproof, warm, you have pockets and is more flattering than tight leathers!!
I wore leathers professionally for decades, it wasn’t good when you compare it with modern technology.
If you’ve not already made a decision, it would do no harm to look at the Motolegends site. They have some very good gear, and if you are in the South of the country well worth a visit.
I ride regularly, and can justify the expense of Stadler jacket and trousers, they are bloody good!

We go to Paris quite often. A beautiful city and cheaper than London. We used to stay in the city, but now stay in Versailles. Its only 20 mins from the city centre by train and loads cheaper.
Yes, there is a very busy visitor attraction, but if you stay away from the Palace then you have a beautiful French town full of local bars and places to eat. We wouldn’t now stay anywhere else.

Sports Hernia, diagnosed about 10 years ago. It totally incapacitated me. Could hardly walk never mind run or cycle.
At the time I didn’t have insurance, and wasn’t prepared to wait for the NHS so we dug deep and paid for it.
As I woke in theatre, I could feel it felt better, the constant pain was gone.
A couple of weeks serious rest, then I went for intensive physio. I was very fortunate that my employer cent me to a rehabilitation centre and I was made to work hard for two weeks. I had two weeks back at home then another two weeks of physio.
After that I continued to train and exercise. Every day if I couldn’t run, then I’d walk miles. Anything to get my strength up.
After about 4/5 months I was back with it. Ran half marathons and worked up within 9 months of the op into a marathon.
You have my sympathies, the pain of the sports hernia would literally make me cry with pain.I suspect you’ll need it fixed via surgery, I was told by several ‘experts’ that rest and physio would never be a permanent fix.
Good luck its a PITA but you’ll get better!

The same as everyone else 3-4 months. I had it this time last year. Not hospitalised but it absolutely floored me. I kept going into work, tried to man up and keep going, but in the end I just realised that it was doing me more harm than good. I remember one day in an effort to try and exercise my way out of it, walking about 50 yds up a slight slope and throwing up my guts out of sheer exhaustion.
Eventually I took my wife and doctors advice and spent a week sleeping, keeping warm and watching box sets.
It did eventually begin to clear up, but fitness levels and lung capacity were hammered. They came back, slowly increasing running distance, slowly increasing lung capacity and function.
My advice, rest, rest and get more rest. You need rest to recover.

Have only just got round to watching this. How reckless of the film company to have someone jump where they could fall onto rocks.
How lucky was he to have landed on his arse and not his head.
Safety line operator the man at fault.
I suspect if he’d really injured himself there’d be a good case for a prosecution under H&S legislation.

Agreed. no need for a pick up or 4×4. The dirt roads have a washboard surface which any car can drive over.
No issue getting from Chile into Argentina and return, though you do get enough stamps to fill up your passport! No visa required.
When driving you do need to watch the gas levels. Fuel stops are infrequent and not like huge BP / Shell / Esso service stations that we are used to. More like a pump next to a local store. They’re easy to miss! That said the fuel works!

Car hire from Punta Arenas was booked via Hertz in advance and was easy. We got a pick-up which was super cool.
For us the car was great.
I guess it’s what you want out of your holiday. We enjoy driving and stopping off, exploring and taking photo’s en route. Our aim wasn’t to go straight into TdP but to enjoy the journey, and explore whilst we were there.
I have this thing about ‘always being able to see around the next bend’ and the car enabled me to do that!
From TdP the car allowed us to go to El Calafate in Argentina to view the Perito Merino glacier, which is one of life’s ‘must sees’!
I agree that PA isn’t much of a town, it’s a port with the primary aim of fishing and getting to Tierra del Fuego. It’s a funny place, and you should make sure you are booking overnight accommodation in a hotel and not a brothel!
Yes, Puerto Natales is much better.

We went a few years ago. Flew from Santiago to Punta Arenas, hired a car and drove up to Torres Del Payne. It’s a good days drive.
Stayed in hotels in PA, camped in TdP.
A fantastic trip that we need to replicate.

Yes I do complain. But more importantly I thank for good customer service. I’ve just this afternoon written to thank a major hotel chain for the magnificent service of their check in staff. He was friendly, efficient and funny. It does no harm to me and may be of benefit to him. Just before Christmas I wrote to a retailer and again thanked a member of their team who took time to explain a wood plane to me, which one to buy and how to get the best from it.
Conversely I’ve recently had to complain to Audi who took 5 weeks to get a replacement car battery.
So yes, I do have a moan I think if you are paying money you should expect good attention, but when you do get that good feeling than its only right that it should be acknowledged.

I work in a school where it was decided we needed a washing machine. My suggestion, as it was to be used several times a day every day was that we buy something decent, verging on commercial considering the amount of use it would get.
Naturally I was outvoted, and in came a £199 Beko.
I was wrong, they were right.
Other than one minor issue where a disintegrating mop head blocked a filter it has been faultless. Two years on and no problems.
When it comes to a new machine at home I’ll not be spending a mint on a replacement Miele or a decent Bosch, I’ll be spending peanuts on a Beko

Costco, do packs of 5 white cotton t shirts. They are long and have a neck that doesn’t sag after a few uses. Perhaps not going to win any fashion contests, but I regularly wear mine under a fleece or shirt. Can’t fault them.

As above. 8×42 are the best all-round option. After that I guess it depends on how much you want to pay.

Becareful when comparing binoculars in full daylight conditions. When its light and bright; a pair of £400 will look almost as good as a pair of £2000 Noctivids.

Then take those same optics out at dawn or dusk and you will really notice the difference. The premium brands will allow in more light and will thus appear much brighter.

There are many sub £1000 binoculars and you take your choice.

I think over that, it is personal choice between Leica, Swarowski and Zeiss.

My opinion is swayed, I was bought a superb pair of Leica Ultravids a few years ago. I keep reminding my wife that quite seriously they are the best things she has ever bought me. They are superb and I love using them.

I had a cough that lasted a good few weeks earlier in the year. Nothing serious but annoying, and loud. I wanted to MTFU but Mrs YP insisted I get it checked out.

Pneumonia! Not serious pneumonia, not serious enough to get me hospitalised, but enough that I needed rest and a bucket ful of anti-biotics.

if I’d continued with the MTFU attitude then who knows where it would have ended.

Most of our place didn’t come in. Snow too bad, roads dangerous, yada yada yada.

I’m paid to work and do a job, so went in. Was great having nobody around managed to get loads done without others under my feet.

I fortunately only work part time, so home now and going out to enjoy the snow and feel good about myself having got so much done!!!
