    Ah, cheers for the info.

Some proper googling has found too many forum threads about carbon rails snapping though… Maybe ti is the way to go, I did like that sale white one though!

If it’s a pub bike you want something old and a bit knackered – if your in Scotland check the various BikeStations for reconditioned things – and it’s all for charidee mate!

http://www.thebikestation.org.uk/bike-station-glasgow-shop/ this sort of thing. There is possibly some sort of english version!

Surely the trails coming alive helped then? 😈

While we’re picking nits, doesn’t he mean ’empirical’? 🙂

Good news about the nightmare pad use though!

Yes I got bitten on the bum about Cdf/Croix de fer a while back 😆 For the 2014 Croix de fer, they look amazing especially the 931 version. However they now have the read disc brake inboard of the rack now, which sounds great but I heard that rain can collect inside the works because of the angle?

There’s a nice cheap Cdf in the edin bikes sale right now, think the sizes are a bit limited so better check. The Shand bikes look dead nice, iirc you can choose the colour and components etc as they build them up.

Heard a lot of good things about Singular as well… think the guy is busy making the Puffin fat bikes atm (could be wrong)…

Maccruiskeen – great, dead useful info!

Martinxyz – you are probably right! I just remember years back when he was being filmed jumping on and off the roof of Macdonald Cycles… I was walking past at the time so I guess I’m FAMOUS! 😉

Ho, a quick google says he was working there at the time

😆 Okay I may have walked into that one! I got confused by the ‘ten minute rule’ stuff at the top. 😳

Oh yeah, you had to prize the lads away from watching youtube videos to buy anything!

Hmm if I got a 5-bike floor rack, that would be some sort of justification to get 3 more bikes…

How does it work btw? If I bid up to the reserve, do I win it now, or in 5 days etc time?

That seems to be Macdonald Cycles just off Lothian Road – didn’t they help get Danny MacAskill get started?

Of course, a huge Evans Cycles opened up just along the road from them a year or so back… 👿

Thanks again guys – just ordered one, with a plastic brick substitute.

Oh and an Irn Bru bike bottle, they seem to have stopped doing the Marmite ones 🙁

Oh and I remembered I needed a slick, so turns out schwalbe City Jets are half price, which was nice.

Ah great thanks guys – wasn’t expecting an amazing bit of kit at that price, good to know it seems to do the job.

Rocco – do you use a ‘riser’ thing to keep the front wheel up to the same level?

Minor PSA – Salsa Anything Cages (the new 2014) version available just now… not sure how many he has.

    http://www.charliethebikemonger.com/new-2014-salsa-anything-cages-fargo-enabler-3762-p.asp

Got mine, they seem pretty strong, 146g for the cage, 177g altogether, which is a fair bit more than what the packaging says, guess it’s the old packaging though. Seems like a decent bit of kit. If it breaks off I will report back! 😮

Thanks Houns – I hate it when Dr Who copies my topics back in time!

I did use the search function on ‘antarctic’ ‘south pole’ and ‘snow’ in my defence! 😀

Edit to add – and I didn’t call the topic ‘What tyres for south pole’ either 😮

While this is back to life – do many people use rucsacs/camelbak Mules etc for bike-packing? Or do I want to have no weight at all on me back?

These guys are in most big supermarkets. Or get the Uncle Ben vegetably rice, and pack lots of soy sauce!

Also, I may have misread, but you’ve been in the Scouts for 15 years? 😯

Ask him what he wants? Better that than giving him something he doesn’t, or even worse, giving him cash. He’s a student – cash = lash.

We have dropped heavy hints, he’s a typical 21 year old though! The last few years he’s been really quite introverted but he got a job at this years edinburgh festival and had a great time apparently, and is starting to open up properly as an adult* and doing proper social stuff, which is great… VanMan, your idea of the watch is a pretty good one (I hate wearing one myself but I can see the point! He can always pawn it if things get hard 😆 )

When *I* was 21 I was given 50 quid and told not to come home sober!

*also he has some amazing new girlfriend. He goes beetroot!

    Nae Danger ftw 🙂

People don’t seem to realise that the human metabolism is specialised to build vitamins out of most food, if you at least take a stab at eating healthy!

People in the hebrides lived to 90 eating porridge and puffins ffs! 😈

Also get CC Cleaner – it will take a fair while to run the first time but will remove LOADS of crappy cookies and temp files that have been slowing down you PC – I found things noticably faster after running it the first time.
