Yeah, expect the tyres to slide out. Tyres are meant to move around and drift about a bit, but they should find grip again if you keep the weight forward and don’t dab the brakes. It’s scary when your not used to it but its normal and something you will get used to.

Do some more riding in muddy conditions, you’ll get used to the slide and won’t be going too fast if/when things go pear shaped :)

Wide grip (hands ~1m apart) with palms forward is pretty hard, I can only manage 10-12 slow reps and I’m 25.

PMBA would be a good one to try next year, it’s pretty laid back and you don’t have to rush between stages.

Fiesta ST’s are pretty cheap on insurance for a 2.0, or maybe a clio 182 if you want something a bit faster?

I’ve been past boltby woods on an XC ride, and remember a nice bridleway descent down to boltby village but haven’t seen any of the DH stuff.

I’m based in York which is totally flat but it’s not too far to venture to the moors, dales or peaks way for a ride. Was up at Hamsterley last weekend and love the tracks there (after scaring myself to death the first few times :P). Been meaning to go to wharncliffe too, how does that hold up in the wet?

Yeah I’ve been going with the Tuesday night lot, we tend to mix in some of the better red sections with some off piste stuff. I still don’t fully know my way around yet though!

What chainguide should I be using with a press fit BB? Is there a top guide that mount where an e-type front mech would?

Yes, just reset the sag, you won’t need quite as much air pressure.

You’re probably better off not trying to scare it :lol:

Ride more often to get fitter. If 3 min sprints are whats killing you keep doing it, it’s better to be in pain while training, it will make the stage that bit easier. Nothings worse than having a sprint and feeling f****d going into a technical section.

Ride with faster people and compare cornering technique, lines etc.

Don’t worry too much about the bike, the biggest improvements will be made through training and getting better technically.

I think I was taken on that run the first time I went with the Tuesday nighters, if its the drop in I’m thinking of it was pretty big (10-12ft) and I bottled it :lol: are there a couple of other options from the start too? One follows the off camber line then has some nice berms, and ends up with a 5ft drop/steep roll in to a fire road.

There’s another run that has some nice tight fairly steep switchbacks on it too, and I remember one with a small stone wall 2 ft drop half way through that was good fun!

I’ve had a trailstar on the front for the last 6 month’s now (riding 2-3 times a week) and have just started to notice some small cracks on the bottom of the sideknobs, although they still seem to ride ok.

I wouldn’t want a pacestar compound on the front for anything other than bone dry conditions.

I did see a goggle tear off last time I was on the downhill runs at….. Sherwood pines :|
