Kilburn – You can find the trails on strava/trailforks

The reds a decent loop, some good descending but nothing extreme and can be done on any bike. Quite peddly in places and I’d allow upto 3 hours to do the full loop.

There’s a great network of off piste and more than enough for a full days riding if you know where to look.

Nice idea but do these batteries need cooling and are you preventing that with this hack?

Had another call with Halifax this time. Specified bikes and wanted to check they are covered away from home unattended in a van.

Person on the phone says they are covered, but can’t provide an email or letter confirming until I’ve bought the policy…
Also said I don’t need to worry though as the full call is recorded and will be used if I ever claimed (they wouldn’t give me a copy of the recording).

    Thanks @dangeourbrain

Looks like it’s the same with M&S. Bikes covered at home but not covered when left unattended in the van…

Those with esure – Are you sure the bikes are covered locked in a car/van overnight?
Just tried to get a quote and they’ve said I won’t be covered with bikes locked away in a van.

Personally I found that I’d push more on a climb when on the ebike because the climb would only last 1 minute instead of 5, and I’d do more of them in the same time.

I had 2 months pretty much only riding the ebike. When I jumped back on the normal bike the only place where I felt I lost a bit of fitness was stood up sprinting where I’d let the motor do alot of the work. It felt like I’d forgotten how hard you actually have to work. That did come back after a few rides though.

I ride with 3 other ebikers. Out of us 4 we’ve had 3 motor failures
Bosch Gen 4 – Failed after 600 miles (along with quite a few other electrical gremlins)
    Shimano EP8 – Failed after 100 miles
Shimano E8000 – Failed after 200 miles, replacement motor now on 1500ish miles with no other issues

The other E8000 owner hasn’t had any issues at all and is probably 2000 miles in (their motor is quite whiney sounding now though).

Love riding them but it’s always a worry when you park up wondering if it’s going to turn on or not…

@transporter13 – yeah that’s me. The rear triangle isn’t cracked but does have some minor damage because it was delivered with the wrong Q factor crank arms.
New rear triangle has been ordered by Silverfish but can’t give a delivery date.

I’ve given the bike another look over and now the handlebar controls (that the retailer replaced) seem to have the same fault again. According to CRA I should be able to reject the bike for a full refund on this fault alone since I’ve not owned the bike for 6 months.

I don’t trust the retailer to do the right thing here regarding fault finding, so have booked it in at my local Bosch service centre to carry out diagnostics.

I will return the bike to the retailer once this is done. They keep telling me they need to assess the bike themselves and may dispute my claim.

This is painful. Retailer not happy to pay for any costs at my local Bosch centre because they don’t have a relationship with Mondraker/silverfish.

They just want the bike back with them but won’t accept any postage costs.

I’m going to speak to silverfish again and see if they can help me out themselves.

@chakaping – I know right, I’ve become so lazy since getting the ebike!
The distributors were ok to start with but I think they got sick of me after a while and just said deal with the retailer.

Just to update – I suggested sending my bike to the local Bosch service centre to look at since I don’t fancy a 400 mile round trip twice. Retailer were happy for me to do that but said I may have to pay labour.

Rang LBS, they can look at it in a couple of weeks but said they will need to be paid in full. They do this quite often for their own customers and said they will always pay for the full amount and claim back what they can. I’ll see if retailer is happy to do that.

    Thanks for the replies/advice.

It’s a Mondraker with Bosch Gen 4 motor / kiox display.

Had a quick look at credit card chargeback but appears I’ve past the 120 day limit.

Fair point about the lock. I’m not sure it’s a user error though, there is a hole in the frame leaving the lock barrel exposed to the elements. I can try find a grommet to cover it I suppose.

I suggested a refund as I don’t really feel some of the components are fit for purpose by their design (freezing lock – I have a spare battery for bigger rides and I’m unabe to swap it when it’s cold) and I’m not sure replacing it is going to solve the issue.

I’m aware I’m past the 30 days now though so from my understanding the retailer can offer a repair or replacement?

    https://www.trailforks.com/

Set the activity to mountain bike and you can zoom into the area to see the trails.

If you download the trailforks app the free version lets you see all the trails in your local area (30 mile radius?) and will show your gps position to help you find them.

Do you have trailforks? Most of the trails over the road are on there.

What sort of riding do you like?

Yearsley is good fun but gets really boggy this time of year

Dalby has a good variety of trails, the blue/red/black ride pretty well all year. The off piste there is really good, little bit sloppy now but dries out quicker than yearsley

Stainburn has a couple of graded rocky trails and a few good off piste lines

Leeds urban bike park – shortish loop trails with some jump lines to play on

Grenoside/Wharncliffe in Sheffield is well worth a trip. Grenoside for the tamer trails, Wharncliffe has a bit of everything from mild bermy trails that ride well all year to steep rocky tech

Nice work as usual Flimbo! :)

All of the trails in that video are off Whitecliff Rigg. They are on Strava but if you head up that fireroad there’s various entrances on either side.

Donated. Fair play to the lad, I’ve eyed the drop up a few times but never had the balls to go for it, mainly because of how precise you have to be with the landing.

Lucky to walk away from that one!

Generally leave mine in EMTB (Bosch) that will adjust assistance depending on pedalling power.
I’ll use eco if I’m out with people on normal bikes, or for the first climb to warm up.

Ebikes are great if you don’t want to spend 90-95% of your ride time climbing.
Going up you can work just as hard but get there twice as fast. If I’m riding with normal bikes I can take it easy and ride up with them, or blast off and get an extra descent in and meet them back at the top.
Downhill is still as fun as the normal bike, it’s not as playful on some trails, but on others the extra weight makes it feel really composed similar to a DH bike.
I’m still ruined at the end of a big ride, but not so much in the legs. I’m getting blisters on my thumbs that I’d normally only get after full days uplifting in the alps.

Thanks but I’d prefer to pay £50 extra to get one new.

I’ve just got the bike but wanted a spare battery to swap over for big days, hopefully won’t be paying for an uplift bus again!

Thanks for the advice. Ended up ordering from r2-bike.com as it seems to be the only one delivering to UK (hopefully!). £703 delivered.

Not 100% but I’d have thought the longer bolt should go through the lower jockey wheel with the lipped bearing cover.
Upper side thread on the inner cage looks to be offset so shouldn’t need as long a bolt.

    yorkshire89

The one with the lip on sits on the lower jockey wheel inner (silver) cage I think.
    https://r2-bike.com/SRAM-Jockey-Wheel-Set-and-inner-Cage-for-GX-Eagle-rear-Derailleur

The jockey wheels should have ‘U’ (upper) and ‘L’ (lower) printed on them. You should be able to see the text looking at the bike from the side.

Yearsley woods has some good off-piste singletrack although may be a bit too technical for the kids…

Yearsley has quite a few decent mtb descents, it’s fairly sloppy right now though.

Dalby or Leeds Bike park if you want to avoid the mud.

First gig I went to was Supergrass back in 2004 at Sheffield Octogan (with my parents).

I’m taking them back to see them in Leeds on 1st March!

THC can increase anxiety, where as CBD can reduce it.

Not tried it myself but a stoner friend is using CBD oil (15%) and rates it.

Stay in Morzine, it’s the busiest place and easiest to get back to at the end of the day.

    Around Morzine you have
    Mont Chery – Airline trail
Les Gets – Black under Nauchettes lift
    Super Morzine black

Then over to Chatel for the bigger stuff

Vink Line is good fun. The berms are huge but the holes in them are pretty rough on anything other than a DH bike.

You need to watch out for faster riders behind too, there’s a few videos of people sending the big tables and landing on people in front…

Putting a new tyre on and my logo’s and valve were slightly misaligned.
Slid the tyre along the rim to line up but caught my little finger on a spoke and fractured a metacarpal…

Rockhopper – Having a clear out at work and have found a book ‘Mastering Autodesk Revit Architecture 2012’.

Bit out of date now but it’s not really changed too much since then.

Happy to send it over if you like for the cost of postage.
