You should be able to take 30k tax free and then put the rest in a pension to avoid being taxed. The good thing is it’s voluntary redundancy so you can walk away knowing it was your choice and you won’t get the mix of emotions that comes from a compulsory redundancy.
Also good that you’ve no money issues or dependants so could be a great opportunity to move onto something new with little risk.
Most people seem to move onto something better and this is true for myself it’s nearly 4 years since my redundancy and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. Business is doing well and I’m enjoying work again.Good luck 🤞🏻
2Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberWhat a very Southern problem! We’ve only just progressed to droppers and gears oop North. It’ll be yonks before we have to worry about battery powered ones! 😂
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberLet’s be honest though, that’s no worse than a mountain bike trail centre. Or would you be opposed to them building one of those also?
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberJust on something you said about the condensate dripping happily I’d hazard a guess that your boiler is an Ideal Logic and your main heat exchanger is leaking internally and this is running down the condensate. If it was your expansion vessel it would only do it with your central heating on and you would see the rise on your pressure gauge and water coming out of the pressure relief pipe.
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberTo answer your question Cynic-al I’d want to know the make and model of your boiler?
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberEdukator, looks like an old Chaffoteaux boiler you’ve used there! Don’t see them around anymore.
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberIt’s a multipoint water heater not a combi boiler so no secondary heat exchanger. If It’s a chaffoteaux britany It’s probably the diaphragm that’s worn or starting to split so you’d be better getting a gas engineer rather than a plumber to look at your water heater next. If the cartridge has been changed and you still have no hot water I doubt its the shower that’s faulty.
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberIt will lose pressure when central heating is running not hot water which may explain the losing pressure in 2 days or 2 months. As a rule pressurise a combi expansion vessel to 0.75 bar. Water coming out of the Scrader valve doesn’t mean its always gone. This can be condensation that has collected in there. Lots if vessels are changed unnecessarily because of this.
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberWhereabouts in the Colne Valley are you moving to or is that not decided yet? Again I’d echo the comment that there’s not as much as Calderdale or quite as techy but still plenty to go at. The trick is finding the good stuff and then piecing it together to make a good ride. I ride Calderdale regularly but my mates from there always like to come over to ride my stuff in the Colne Valley. Again its a great location with riding from the door but also so many options a short drive away. I live in Golcar and loved the first lockdown rediscovering what I could ride from my door. Lots of fun descents over this side and Marsden, Meltham, Honley all within easy reach.
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberDon’t forget that CO detectors only have a limited life and don’t last for ever. Might be 5,7,10 years but make sure you check the date on it and replace when past it! A lot of people don’t realise this also don’t buy the cheapo stick on plaque ones with a spot that changes colour with CO, its the last thing you’d check when falling asleep in front of your fire!
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberThat model of Spacesaver doesn’t get dirty so there won’t be anything to really clean out. Well designed burner hardly produces any carbon monoxide and large flueways through heat exchanger So they don’t have a tenancy to soot up. I’d wager if you stuck a flue gas analyser in that even without a service you’d get a reading below 0.0004 which is a really good combustion reading. Just leave it alone it’ll be fine.
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberMost heating engineers would just use a flue gas analyser to service your boiler nowadays and tell you your spacesaver is burning really cleanly. You are supposed to get it serviced every 12 months but to be honest even if it is serviced properly it won’t work any better or more efficiently. Only thing to really go wrong is the thermocouple burning out and they are readily available. I wouldn’t bother doing anything with it. As long as the water in your system is clean and you’re not too bothered about efficiency you’ll probably get a good few years out of it yet.
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberLoving the usual single track mindset/jealousy that because someone likes something they don’t he’s instantly a bellend. What’s wrong with some of you people? My first thought was he must be a massive Star Wars fan and spunking the money on a once in a lifetime holiday for the opening of Galaxys edge but I think he’ll be back before it opens on the 29th. I’m fortunate that I love any holidays whether camping, biking, skiing, diving, walking, all inclusive or just lying on a beach doing sod all but reading a book. Went to Florida earlier this year not knowing what to expect but friends rave about it and wont go anywhere else, it wasn’t cheap but loved it and will definitely go back. The quality of how well they do things over there needs to be experienced but only if you like that sort of thing 😉 if you stayed on site in top hotels with upgraded flights can easily see how you’d do 25k but it’s only same when you go skiing,Caribbean, Maldives etc and I guess comes down to the level of stupendous luxury you like and what you can afford. I could have blown 5k on spend while there, same as I could spend 5k+ on a bike but chose not to.
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberThanks for the advice, was budgeting a couple of hundred quid. SSD sounds like a good idea. Main use would be as above but I don’t want to go too cheap and find it’s not up to it which was why I thought I’d ask on here.
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberWe’ve got a smaller one of these and it’s really nice.
Bit smaller than you asked for but not sure if you need exact size
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberLike the sound of both of those! What are the most random courses that I can do then? Need to have a slim chance of my current employers signing off as re-training for a new career.
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberI was due to be starting an ILEM qualification later this year so have no actual management qualifications just experience. Have some skills I can fall back on but was putting some feelers out to see if there were any ideas about worthwhile training for changes in career. Thanks for all the advice. Already a dab hand at the Yorkhire Puddings so no help needed there! 😄
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberIOS/NEBOSH look a good suggestion cheers. I not the best with heights so don’t think the rope access would be for me! Don’t really fancy anything cycling related as don’t want to mix work and my hobby.
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberWill have to pay for it and claim back so will be able to choose any training that I could use in a new career. So mountain bike leadership training would be allowed but not a skills course.
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberI have a hive smart plug in the lounge that usually controls a lamp. I recently changed it over and haven’t got round to changing it back yet as I’m still finding it amusing when I want to turn off the lamp I have to say ‘Alexa turn off the Christmas Tree’
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberBeen a couple of times and love it. Only downside is pebbly beaches but depends if that’s an issue for you. Last summer we stayed at Rabac which is just round the coast from your son. Bonus is the valamar hotel has a bike centre and has started up a bike park with a few manmade trails plus the natural stuff is good too.decent full sus hire bikes and ebikes if you don’t fancy the climbs which are pretty brutal in the heat. Prices good too. Rabac is a lovely little fishing village with loads of options from camping and villas all the way up to an all inclusive Tui family life hotel so should suit whatever you want.
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberForget all that claptrap, only thing to do with batteries that aren’t working is piss on them or chuck ’em in the freezer! Proper blokes don’t use lights anyway!
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberLoved Generals. Found mine last year at my mums, still in the box and electronic brain and sound still working. So simple but so tense when playing! Nee Nar Nur Nee Nar Nur Nurrr
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberKnock knock
Who’s there?
Little old lady
Little old lady who?
I didn’t know you could yodel?
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberI’ve got the Al EX 7.0 and love it. Amazing spec for the money. It’s really light and climbs well but also really good downhill too. Last bike was a transition covert so probably a bit more burly than your orange. I loved my covert but now I think the canyon is by far the better bike.
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberIf you think it’s starting to drag on you want to try reading the books! Started reading them in 1997 and still not finished! Book 6 still not out yet and we’re nearly on season 7 on the TV series!
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberIsn’t that where they filmed ‘Hostel’ I’d recommend watching it before you go to get a ‘feel of the place’ and what sort of things you might expect! 🙂
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberAgree with Olly we got given a Raleigh Sunbeam Skedaddle and it’s been ace. (Usually plenty Second hand ones on eBay) that £45 one looks alright. All similar sort of style just depends how much you want to spend. Personally I’d save the money for the next bike as they grow out of them quickly. Just don’t get one of those wooden bikes cos we had one of them too and it was pretty crap.
I’ve not really been pushing my girls to go on their bikes just letting them whenever they’ve wanted. The balance bike has worked a treat though as I let them have a go on their new bikes this week which I thought were too big, girls have just turned 4 and struggling to reach the floor but after 10 minutes both of them were off and pedalling.Very proud dad 🙂
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberI’ve never managed to find one and have looked pretty hard for this over the years, also looked as an alternative climb to Old Mount Road. Your route seems to do a lot of off road climbing for not a lot of good descents, have you tried it in reverse? Or what about extending and stay on the Pennine Way between the 2 reservoirs the drop down the flagged descent and round by the waterfall and into Wessenden and down from there.
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberUsed to referred to as ‘Tippex Teeth’ when I was a kid
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberI used these heating mats from this place http://www.underfloorheatingworld.co.uk/under-laminate-heating/1sqm-under-wood–laminate-floo/
Dead simple to do you lay insulation mats (supplied as part of kit) straight on top of concrete, then heating film mats that are about 1mm thickyou probably need 3 or 4 from memory they are 3 metres long and 1 metre wide but you supply them a diagram of your conservatory and they work out how many you need. Then just a moisture barrier on top (again supplied) and then your laminate. With laminate you are only supposed to run your heating to 27 degrees which doesn’t sound much but it heats mine fine and floor is a lovely temperature to walk on.
You’ll need an electrician obviously to wire the mats up to the mains and the thermostat but was a very easy job to do.
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberIt’s because it’s a condensing boiler, it’s called ‘pluming’, perfectly normal.
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberGet on Sportsdirect.com. I got these karrimor ones http://www.sportsdirect.com/karrimor-x-lite-5inch-running-shorts-mens-453406?colcode=45340690 as I was in a similar position of not knowing what to buy and didn’t want to break the bank. I also got some longer ones and they are both a roomy fit and big legs shouldn’t be an issue. A lot better quality than I was expecting for the price they probably did start out at 32 quid somewhere. 8 quid more up my street though!
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberThe traffic lights on Dodlee should make the start interesting 😆
Can everyone do plenty of big kid skids on the final descent as it’s just starting to wear in nicely after the council sanitised it a couple of years ago!
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberI’ve just bought this one…
http://www.simonandsimononline.com/ties/olive-knitted-silk-tie.html
no micky taking please! is taht anything like you are talking about or are you going really niche?
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberHeadfirst It’s not all Longwood, hard to tell in the snow but I’d say part of it is Honley/Brockholes ish judging by the metal bridge. Looks great fun might have to get out before it melts! 😆
Yorkshire-PuddingFree MemberHa ha, do they still have window stickers that say ‘orienteers do it in the forest’? Didn’t think the flimsy baggy O suit back in my day was too bad but I agree it got bad when the overweight over 40’s all started wearing Lycra! You’ve brought back memories I would like to forget and reminded me why I wear baggies while riding my bike!
