I only weighed them as they felt extremely different and i thought maybe something was wrong with one of them. I wont bother returning it, put the heavier one on the rear.

    Listed 470 (the newer tire), that’s a 15% difference.

Hmm, not on the oustide, but inside the numbers are a bit different: 220216A is the heavier one, 220216B is lighter.

@Highlandman Grand Bois are sweet and im sure they ride wonderfully, but expensive and not sure about puncture protection or durability compared to the e.g. the Schwalbe marathon supreme.

I’ve been wondering how the Panaracer Pasela PT stack up against e.g. the Marathon Supreme.

Think the solution here might be to run a black reflex strip tire in the winter and put on the fancy shoes in the summer (Panaracer Gravel King, WTB Horizon or Byways, Grand Bois)

Testing 2x marathon supremes with sv 12 inner tubes! Saving my tan sidewall tires for summer.

I was just looking at Continentals Offerings, they seem to only have 1.25 or 2″ options (speed contanct etc). GP 4000 isn’t avail in 650b.

People say the puncture resistance on the Horizons aren’t anything special, and they might be a bit slow compared to 1.5″ tires? Are the sidewalls actually tan or just dyed?

You can also add reflective tape to your rims, that’s black in daylight, guess it gives a bit of extra visibility from the side, but if wearing a reflective jacket I don’t think it’ll add much!

Went ahead and got the Adidas Conrax Terrex, love em so far! Warm but not sweaty. The BOA system is genius and extremely robust (at least this beefy model).

Reflective jackets can be made reflective in different ways, some use “dots” of reflective material, others are reflective all over, the latter type are also very visible in daylight IMO.

Not interested in using a vest, not as visible and more impractical than having a coat.

Seems like the Altria ain’t good with backpacks :(

Dont buy this jacket if you wear a backpack or if you are likely to move a lot when cycling!

@ton Not really gonna use them in mud, more rain, snow so BOA should be fine, but those look great, speed laces? Any specific brand? Never heard of before now.

    Columbias are 115 GBP

Seems it’s either Glerups or North Face, Glerups is classier looking but more expensive. Hmm!

    75 eur

    45 eur

From what I read and how long these things last, value wise the Thermoballs come out on top here and are most sheep friendly:

North Face Thermoball mules > 4 years (cheap!)
Haflingers Grizzly Buffalo >4 years (bit clunky)
Glerups Rubber Sole >3 years (the most expensive and most loved)
    Giesswein Vent ~2 years

Thermoball seems nice and is affordable! Just not a ton of reviews yet so hard to gauge longevity.

My heart says BTR, at the end of the day, 400 grams in weight difference isn’t a big deal, but easier repair-ability might be. I don’t think rust is a real concern.

But how would I mount a  Velo Orange full fender on the BTR during winter when it’s delegated to transportation duties with no seat stay brace? LOL (P clamps takes care of the other mounting points).

@danti Thanks for sharing your experience! Now this is a disregarding geo comparison, as you could get close to the exact geo you want for any of these brands. Personally I’d want to increase the head angle as I’m making a full rigid bike more streetable do absolutely everything bike (close to their DJ specific X2, BTR Ignitor or Curtis Racelite).

    @bigwill
Is laquered steel different from clear coat? Why does it look so much browner than the clear coated curtis? I do absolutely love the color of the BTR and how it contrasts to black parts.

If you do want to customize geo, it seems like BTR and Curtis would end up costing about the same, as Curtis offers free customization.

    @longmover

Curtis AM7 comes in at ~2.3 kg in medium and starts at 1300 eur (with free customization) + 150 gbp for the clear coat ed seen here, the Curtis is verrry nice and in clear coat up there with the BTR in looks IMO.

Wondering what break pads ya’ll prefer here: https://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/magura-mt5-mt7-which-brake-pads-low-noise-good-performance-and-longevity/

Just ordered MT5s going from Avid BB7s, my first hydraulics!

Went for the CS-M711 as replacement cogs are widely available (not the case for SRAM) and only 3 euros each, which means I could replace the 3 smallest cogs for 9 euros instead of the whole cassette. Interestingly I couldn’t find SLX replacements either.

Anecdotally people say freehub bit is still a problem, but perhaps bit less so on the XT.

Just broke my vertebrae in two places falling off a 30+ kmh wheelie, due to a tiny bump in the road making my rear wheel loose contact with the ground. Bad luck, but could have been avoided. It was also my first time falling off a wheelif after years of exp. Tips:

Lower your seat a bit, makes the fall shorter and bailing easier. Dropper post is nice for this.

    Practise bailing.

Use c2 grade d3o armour or better.

Don’t go at high speed unless you have years of exp. Esp not on hard surfaces.

    Always use flats.

Know the surface, don’t do high speed wheelies on unknown paths/roads.

The armour pictured in the OP would certainly be useful for stopping cars squeezing too close by – looks like it would do their shiny paintwork a nasty injury if they got too close!

    Haha! Good point.
