By constantly thinking about what bike you ride you’re killing things. Things like flow, joy, interaction, purpose, and another way through the world is lost. Not by one particular person, but by instinct.
Survival, the very chaos of life itself.
When it comes to trails, when the builder puts down the shovel and picks up the bike, when creation overrides destruction, well, that’s living.

Crikey, this is a share your spooky/strange/weird encounters thread. Not a share your opinion thread. Stop trying to ruin the fun, I won’t get scared in the woods if you keep tying to explain everything ya fud.

You’ll get way fitter and stronger riding a heavy bike, plus a lightweight fatbike might float away.

I’ve never had much of an issue with the geometry of my Pugsley when riding on trails or anywhere else. You just need to feel the flow and evolve with the trail. 😉
Don’t bother spending loads of money trying to make a fatbike lighter either, it’ll just make you slower. Just ride it as much as possible and you’ll be fine.

Did you say anything to the dog owner, or did you figure it would be better to let them read about it on here?

Its a rigid pushbike? It’s hype. You don’t see motorcycle chopper builders using reynolds tubing etc because its more “compliant.” If you want a comfy hardtail get a fatter tyre. Your bike will become compliant straight away. If that doesn’t work buy a full bouncer.

Fatbikes are shite. There’s no point in getting one. They are blatantly boring to ride. They are really heavy too. I mean sure, riding a heavy bike with really heavy wheels will increase your strength and fitness no end but where’s the benefit in that!?!? Better off with a superlight xc bike with a compliant rear end I say.

For the budget of 3-4.5K I’d look at trying to find a nice R1150GS or R1150R. Both are really good all round bikes. Nowt wrong with the 800GS though, great fuel economy but no shaft drive. Some newer BMW seem to have consistency problems with the finish as folk have said here, but as with anything, if you look after it there’s less chance of it turning into a pile of shite. I’d avoid the KTM SMT as they can be a bit harder on tyres. mt mate has a KTM Adventure and loves it, its a wee bit heavy on fuel though. You could look at the usual jap offerings, bandit, fazer etc. The Triumps look and ride great but are again let down by finish, just got to a Triumph dealer and look at a demo bike mid winter. An older Speed Trifle could be worth a look. What about a Transalp or a VFR800? If I were you I’d spend a few days test piloting a bunch of bikes, even stuff you haven’t concidered. A low milage R1150R wouldn’t be too bad though, here’s a link to one I seen on Biketrader. (not my, or anyone I know’s bike)

“Though I can’t confirm the final pricing, our tyre will not cost £80. I’d hope for half that. At least.”

Sound good to me. I’ll be buying at least one.

    Sorry, I meant Shaggy.
Another question about the On One fat tyre, how much will it cost? I spoke to On One a couple of months ago and the guy on the phone said he thought it would be around £30. I told him the tyres currently available are about 80 quid but he said On One’s tyre will be much cheaper. Any truth in this?

Any word on the on one/vee rubber fatbike tyre? I spoke to someone at On One the other day about their fatbike. Apparently the release date has been put back till “at least September.” It was meant to be out next month!
