we took the existing old kitchen out during the extension build, put some of it in the hallway some in the garage and put a tarp up between the build and the house with some sheeting. Plumpbed up with some shonky plumbing and a bucket under the waste. Worked fine for about 4 weeks. The old kitchen was then put up properly in the utility room which was first to be finished, then new kitchen was installed.

WCA, have you factored in use of high powered electromagnetic medical equipment in your carbon footprint? You must have had more x-rays than most people on the planet.

U.S. healthcare is responsible for 9.8% of America’s greenhouse gas emissions and radiology departments are “likely” a major contributor to energy consumption, imaging providers wrote in JACR.

Define “a bit glitchy”? That’s not a fault description

lol. This is my daughters phrase, i use words which wouldn’t get past the swear filter. Its slow to boot, even with as many things as possible turned to not start during boot up. When you open a new window, it can easily take a minute to respond. Like its busy doing something more important. But when you look at the task manager its not got much going on…ITs been like this since it was on site. Office is a fresh install. Windows came with it. Its a Packard Bell imedia S2984, with a N3050 processor, 4gb DDR3 and a 1Tb drive.

Trying to use something like minecraft on it, it literally will take 30+seconds to respond to each request to move your little block building bloke about.

I undestand that due to its diminutive size, you cant get upgrades for this PC as its too small inside to accept them. Ive not taken it apart, but to clean it inside) so don;t know much else.

Child 1 developed symptoms on their day 1, she tested neg that day on LFT spoke to test and protect and got a PCR for the following day. Day 2 still neg on LFT but the PCR test was positive. I was testing neg all this time and for a further 3 days after this. In this time i visited 4 of our sites, potentially infecting them all..as i then tetsed positive on day 5..So now we have three in the house of four testing positive, the forth is still at school merrily (possibly) spreading this further and further. But All of this is within the guidlines…

dont read all the near miss posts you get on facebook. Riding with others can either make it worse or you feel like you get some protection from a group so worth trying. Ride more, you get used to the closeness of the traffic, but some silly buggers will still make life difficult. If you really cannot get your head into a good place, find somewhere else to ride. Canals, old rail lines etc, and stop making your life miserable. I pick and chose my rides and roads i ride on. Some you cannot avoid, but careful route planning can turn a traffic busy ride into a quiet one.

I have a set of sealskin socks from about 8 years ago. Washed through washing machine. Still keep my feet dry. I also have a set from Aldi, which sweat a bit in comparison, and arnt as waterproof as the sealskin ones, but keep my feet warm and most of the mud out.

back in the distant past, a mates grandad used to sit on his decking with a beer and watch them come up in the lawn, then shoot them with his shotgun.

I don’t take my phone in to the lounge or the bedroom anymore. Stops me using it unnecessarily. If i need to look something up, i need to get up and find it.

we are going to Silverstone this year, my girls are Lando fans (including the wife!) never been, really looking forward to it. We looked at Austria but the cost of accommodation killed that idea.

on issues with this site, my laptop won’t play the video of anything embedded in this site. It runs the audio, but with a blank screen. If i go to u-tube and find the same video, its fine.

It takes mine overnight (in the un-heated garage) to dry hose wet shoes. Assuming 10hrs of my 60W bulb, is about 10p.

i built a ply box with a expel-air fan in it, and a 60w bulb. waste pipes are the outlet which sit inside the shoes, blowing slightly warmed air. a bit like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0t906-KIVY

Decide on a policy, check the resources can support it, then announce it in a clear and consistent way for us all to follow

if they did that, then if it doesn’t work they can be blamed. By changing the goal posts F1 style, they can blame the public for not following the rules, even if by then know one knows what the rules actually are.

But then (in a Scottish centric way) I looked at the map of smoke control areas.

its handy that the majority of the major works at Grangemouth (refinery, petrochemicals etc) are neatly outside of the smokeless zone.

    no-one gets hurt being a ‘have-a-go hero’

there was a bloke on the BBC news a day or two ago cutting a tree sat in a road which was >4ft, no chainsaw specific ppe at all, and the way he was wielding the saw made me wince. Just hacking away, plunging the saw out of sight on the opposite side of the tree, no stable platform to be stood on etc.

we are trying to get her to discuss with her friends, so that the platform is similar. I expect that her expectations (full F1, virtual simulator) against what is available may be an issue…

I remember reading somewhere that it takes 7 or 8 years before a plastic one becomes better than a real one. (with lots of assumptions). Probably the best way is to plant a tree and keep the roots on it when you bring it inside. Take it back into the garden to continue to grow. When its too big to bring in, cut it down and burn it on your STW approved stove – you do have a stove don’t you?

I have a plastic tree in its 10th year, and a pallet built tree from a design in another page here for outside.

#edit# the best time for transplanting trees is in the winter when they are at their most dormant.

even with the best insulation you can put in a roof, the roof space will still be warmer than the surrounding world as some heat will get up there. So by drawing that dry(er) air from the loft into the house in a slow controlled way it will always be more “efficient” than opening windows and vents. Clearly there is a cost, upfront, and running, but the expectation is that you dont need to run your heating as hard with one of these compared to opening windows to create the same level of air circulation.

We had to inform our insurers during the build, it may even have been part of the planning or building warrant, (I may be wrong on this however), they wanted informing of when it was watertight and then completed build. From what i remember there was an uplift in costs of about £20 during the build as the risk was higher. It didn’t change our yearly costs as the kitchen was extended and a bedroom extended, so the number of rooms didnt change.
