I use my local National Tyre and Autocare centre. I would consider myself quite handy as I’ve fixed my aircon..glow plugs and do all the other filters. However they charge about £44 for oil change, filter and disposal of the oil. To buy the the oil its about £40 anyway.

I’ve been using a single wrap of electrical tape for about 2 years now. I dont weigh much and never run high pressures. Also my rims have nothing sharp in em. Even run tubeless!!

Yes the discworld books can be read in any order but you will notice some subtle and interesting things if read from the start.

Has ‘looking under the hood’ to borrow an american term become a bit of a luddite thing?

    Yes

    Its sad.

My neighbour was a mech-eng his whole life. The experiences and knowledge have are phenomenal. Im more IT based myself but he can talk for hours about different thread pitches. how to tell what is what and amazingly how to modify them to do different things. E.G modifying a normal tap so it can be used as a cutting tap.

Most people just don’t seem interested in knowing what happens behind the scenes.

i do but i use mudguards. I know someone who uses lycra with no mudguards and he says they wear through after 2 seasons i think or something. For the sake of not killing kit i think using a mudguard (or even shorts?!) is an acceptable compromise.

I guess you picked up a scandla for £130 from on one also? I Can’t wait to get mine. Only need to get a rear brake and im set. Starting off with a steel fork and will switch later. I have a spare carbon fork but its 440mm AC :(

I wouldn’t bother with a magic ratio personally….horizontal ends are so much superior. I tried it before and it worked for about 5 miles :(

I used to know the Specials champion (2003 or something) for the uk. I watched him race it once and he started about 20 metres from the back of the grid. When i asked him why he said it was more interesting passing people than starting at the front (where he would qualify for every race) and just blitzing off.

It would be slower and a **** tonne more dangerous. You don’t have brakes on a track for a reason. If you introduce gears you then need brakes because you cant run fixed*. Also i think some people here have never ridden a track/fixed bike, they accelerate quicker than most people can on road bikes and once up to speed are very very easy to pedal due to the efficiency of the whole system.

*hub gear fixed would be to heavy

If you think mtb isn’t cool or you have to qualify why its cool you should stop **** riding. MTB is the coolest thing ever pretty much so get out there and ride your bike. Revel in getting muddy, cut and torn. When riding past yobby teenagers wearing hoodies dont even acknowledge them whilst the snot pours out of your nose down your face.

If you want to “try” and be cool definately don’t do skids. They make you look liek a prick.

20 odd posts in and no Skodas have been mentioned yet,the StW massive is slacking.

Get a Skoda Yeti, as good as Bmw’s are they are 10 a penny even the 3 series now outsells the rep car of choice(Mondeo) there that common.

Fabia VRS with a mild remap and a strut brace across the engine bay and your laughing really. You can even get a diesel VRS Which is very very fast and probably great on fuel when driven “normally”.

I never stretch but am only 20. Dont get problems like cramp pretty much ever. First one the other night in about a year and thats because i did a massive increase in exercise one day followed by no real warm down of any sorts…not evne walking.

When im doing a huge quantity of exercise including weight lifting i drink atlest 4 pints of whole milk a day, eat steak for breakfast, take cod liver oil in the morning and evening and generally just consume vast quantities of fat and protein.

Im not saying it will work for you necessarily (I dont put on fat easily) but do your research. Then work out what works for you. We aren’t all the same. Ive used protein powders and tried a little creatine and found neither had much effect. Whole milk does a better job than protein powder ime. Creatine sort of worked but i was a bit skeptical of various supposed side effects and just couldnt be bothered with the commitment to doing it eveyr day.

Please make sure you SPELL correctly when trying to bash someone/something.

Also, its all down to the people working in the shop or garage you go to. **** the brand name on the door. Halfords are great – moan enough and they’ll give you the moon on a stick.

in all seriousness, if someone was going to do it wouldnt you do it on the uphill stretches? That way if someone does hit it (unlikely) it will be slow and presumbly less likely to cause death. I’ve run into a wire strung out like that and it really hurt…given the speeds you can go on a bike you could be killed quite easily.

cant tell from the pictures but i think you have the wrong chain. You need an 8 speed chain most likely or a 3/32 ss style chain. 1/8th looks too big for the rear cog…pictures arent clear enough though.

far worse people have got off scott free for far worse crimes.

Its odd he took such afront to the positive comments, some people like his music and are brave enough to say it. Im pretty sure none of them said they would rape a child?

Very dissapointing, in my experience bus drivesr are usually the best drives. I would do what people here say, straight to the police and straight to the news.

I found something last night which seemed to work quite well. I had a bus start to overtake me and i knew he would cut in soon so as soon as i heard the engine rev up and his cab start to over take me i stuck my right arm out very far in a pointing, not signalling manner. He over took REALLY wide. I was surprised it worked, but am going to try it in future. Sometimes though, it can be too late. Ive narrowly avoided your situation before and a stern email to the company apparently meant they gave the guy a good talking to.

wow what a shit thread. I hope you posted this from your iphone 4s whilst driving your 2.8 litre tdi audi at 90mph down the motorway with headlights on and air con on full blast during the day.

You know full well previous generations have **** up the planet…i wont argue that current generations are indeed doing the same. Some of us dont talk **** about it all day long and acutally do reduce our carbon footprint.

The fact of the matter is, all of the recylcing done in old days didnt cancel out the ghaslty damage old cars did to the environment pre catalytic converter days and various other environment saving devices. Not to mention leaded petrol. mmhmm tasty.

I’ve had this from a truck who thought that he could come within 1 1/2 feet of me because there was a cycle lane attached to the road. Said cycle lane is wet, off camber, covered in leaves and has about 5 semi-blind exits. Great!

Just console yourself in the fact these people are usually fat and look very unhappy with their lives. Im yet to meet a cyclist who fits both of these criteria at the same time.

email the bus company and say you’ve already reported the bus driver to the police. They WILL talk to the driver and it will go on his record. Ive done it for a bus driver and a taxi driver. The taxi driver required me to contact the city council and get them to do it.

If you do go on that ak47 spree i may jion you, im getting more pissed off by drivers. One offered to punch me in the face yesterday and I was going to go postal if he tried it.

    increased leg strength

Go on then, explain that one.

why bring that one out? I know from personal experience, for me atleast, it is true. I can out accelerate most people…on a bike..running or even skating which uses similar muscles in a sprint.

I ride a SS Pompino on the road like stoner. I use it on club runs all the time and its absolutely fine. Lets make a clear point here – this is a club run not a pro team training session. If you are finding it hard just shelter behind people. Truth of the matter is though that me and my ss mate are generally on the front and always get to the top of the hills first.

So, yes, there is a point to road SS. 66 gear inches. Get it done!

Get a french press, fill it up with some milk and pump like mad for about a minute. It kind of almost works. I use it to make a kind of cold latte. I dont even like coffee tbh.

never ridden these foreign lands (hour up the road…:)) but good job for trying to keep them open. Theres a place and a time to be rude to other users but on MOD/private property isnt it. You should ATLEAST do what they say when they are there!
