doh just reread and you want softer wheels not larger to go over bumps.

    I cant help :)

Hi mate, it might be worth lookign at larger roller blade wheels. I think you can get 110mm quite easily and i’m sure ive seen 130mm. These are generally speed skate wheels so might not be cheap but a second hand worn set could be right up your street.

brake/carb cleaner is designed for a car not a bike. Some of these contains various oily substances which **** your brake pads. BURN THEM TRUST ME ITS BETTER!

When they are so expensive and can be saved in 5 minutes. why not? You forget the disc is also contaminated so you have to decontaminate both. Why risk brand new pads?

I cilcked once for every EMERGING hazard on my test and did not get penalized despite clicking a lot of times.

Also, yes I think 40% of driver instructors probably arent safe to be driving on the roads. Driving is something most people can “do” but really cant do correctly. My standards are obviously higher than most.

the hazard perception test was easy. I clicked once for every hazard and got a fairly high percentage.

Also if you are looking to blame something/someone else for your failings then you aren’t fit to drive and need to sort your attitude out. So often my friends go “it wasn’t my fault the instructor was shit.” Well change instructors you dumb **** and if your really good enough to pass teh test why didnt you in the first place?

Learn from your mistakes, do it again and dont cry.

Smother mud all over the disc/pads and do a couple of stops. Rinse off and do it again a few more times. If its not too bad this usually works as long as the pads haven’t absorbed oil or anything.

If this doesnt work I find the pads probably have something embedded in them. Get a blow torch and heat them up really hot then douse in water. I did this three times and it worked the other week.

My other suggestion is oven cleaner for contaminated rotors…but mud is free. so i usually use that one.

can you tell I contaminate them to frequently with my grubby mits?!

Thats insane, i love it. His average speed would suggest 36 hours of riding. Is the eastbourne bit slow or is this the kidn of speed hes gonna pace at the whole ride?

Strava is great. I just got my first KoM and feel very proud of the effort I put into that segment that I wasn’t aware was there. I guess the 7 other people in my group also got a KoM that night aswell.

Its great to prove my climbing worth over a total elevation gain of EIGHT feet in 2 minutes. Come at me Strava.

i would recommend trying some high5 or nuun. I use high5 and it helps to reduce the likelyhood of exercise headaches for me. If you want some sugar in them just put a spoon of sugar or some orange squash in. They aren’t the best tasting things but you soon get used to them. I would recommend trying them first just sipping along with another drink your used to. When i first used used them i found it messed my stomach up once or twice whilst jogging.

definately not 1300 lumens from those torches. I had the 3 button one and I would say closer to 400-500 but has a bad beam pattern. Still a good torch just it would be nice if the optics were better.

there are independant tests that verify the 3mm recomendation. I believe it is also the minimum in some countries. My previous tyres were terrifying at about 2-2.5mm. In the wet i could spin the wheels in third on a slight incline in my 110bhp diesel octavia! Madness.

I would recommend Event Tyres and I got uniroyal rainexperts. They have a stonking amount of grip in the wet. Fuel economy not the best though.

magic gears are a compromise and always will be. I would just get a frame with horizontal or track dropouts.

As people have said pouring very very strong weedkiller into the stem of the thick ones is the best bet. My neighbour has this and it was brought up on my house inspection 2 1/2 years ago. No problems with halifax giving me a mortage. I guess because its not in my garden. Some of it has of course encroached but i have a cheeky fence panel that opens so i can check on the otehr guys garden (its huge and weirdly shaped so he’ll never seeme, oh and hes about 120 years old.)

I’ve found that if you want to kill the smaller stems off when they first start growing a little bit of white spirit will kill it in about 4 hours. I have no idea how effective it is below the surface but I seem to be winning the war slowly…

JK is a serious thing. So much so it is a criminal offence to handle it incorrectly or NOT treat it if its on your property. The damage it does is insane and yes it really does grow a foot in a week as per the above post. In fact in last years hot rain showers i’m sure some of my neighborus grew more than that. probably 18 inches plus shoots from the side and big big leaves. Crazystuff.

edit: as you cant control whats on the railway embankment i wouldnt even bother going near the property.

If a car fails an mot it doesnt necessarily means its un road worthy now does it? for example if it fails because a front bulb is out you can still drive it in the day time.

MOTs can’t be revoked. If your car is flagged as dangerous at the mot it already was dangerous and I think if it was proved to be dangerous your ignorance wouldn’t matter. You should check your car every time you get in it…but who does that?

err they arent that similar. The scandal is a lightweight race frame. I just built one and love it. It cant go past 100mm travel if im correct. The soul my brother is running at 140mm i think for descents and its quite a heavy machine built for hits.

You took the money and that is deemed as a out of court settlement as far i am aware. 500 euros sounds like a good bit of money for a new rim and wheel rebuild to me.

i dont see the point in going to all that effort when a regular headset/fork works fine. Have you see nthe price of a lefty btw? Its insane.

from a quick bit of research it appears aluminium expands faster than steel. So heating the crank would be ab it useless surely? Unless it helps to break the weld between the two materials. I would have though apply something REALLY cold to the aluminium axle would have more success?

    yesiamtom
    Free Member

What are the axle and cranks made of?

If they are the same material i cant see heat/cold making a difference as they will expand at same rate.

plusgas same as using a blow torch?

If the threads are welded together wont will the pedal actually become unstuck or just rip the threads to bit? Not sure its worth risking XTR pedals.

Also your pedals shouldn’t be loose….if they come loose you can strip the threads of off the Crank before you realise what is happening.

I have the same problem mate, XTR pedal welded into a deore crankset. The worst thing is I did use copperslip to fit it! What a bummer. Leant on a park tool allen key with all my weight and it wasnt budging…i could see the shaft bending over quite a lot though! Tried all the usual tricks with no luck. When i worked at halfords we used some shock and unlock a few times which worked quite well.

    Charlies great.

I bought a surly ring from him a few years back. Put it on the floor whilst taking cranks off only to pick it up with a 30 degree bend on one side. No idea how or why it happened. I asked him if Surly would replace it or anything and he said no but he would do me a deal if I couldnt bend the ring back and use it properly. The no-nonsense meeting half way customer service is always a winner for me, especially if it was most likely my fault anyway!

Naturally it being made of a real material it bent back and has been fine for 2-3 years now :)

to go from 32 to 34 tooth costs about 50 grams on a deore hub. So I hate to think what a 36 tooth would be. Go for the 32 tooth and run a smaller ring up front. I dont see any point in single ring front frankly other than fashion/looks when compared with a double ring. This is coming from a die hard singlespeeder too so I hate gears as i am too dumb to operate them.

I tihnk most people aren’t fit enough or mentaly strong enough (come at me) to appreciate the climbs. When you are fit and can really attack a climb its an amazing feeling. I’ve lost a lot of fitness lately so can’t really attack them but still enjoy conquering a good climb. Especially if its rooty, wet and technical. My favourite technical climb is just north of portsmouth running along behind peoples gardens. Fantastic little track.

I just built a 1×9 as my first geared bike in about 4 years. Its a 36t ring on the front and 11-34 rear and I can’t believe the gear range. Its huge. Dont see any point in 2×9 really other than the fact the weight is already there in the front mech to keep the chain on.

If you find thats not enough i have one suggestion – learn to spin the freaking pedals!

theres also Fareham wheelers cycle club who mtb on a tuesday and thursday night and the south downs mtb who do a wednesday and friday(i think). Worth checking both out if you want a nice night ride.

    QECP is alright.

Theres some good natural definately-xc not hardcore-xc around but its very hard to find so thats why i’d say its best to find a group.

contaminated probably? Sure the pads are still there…not just the backing material?

try slathering mud all over the caliper/disc/pads then use the brakes a couple of times. Reapply and try again. I’ve done this for minorly contaminated disc brakes in the past and glazed pads and it works fantastic. Dont forget to hose it off afterwards with a little water. no pressure wash…

Tell them your opening a dispute in 24 hours if no response. After that open dispute to get your money back. If its recorded there is proof and they can get reimbursed if it went missing.

I have had a few items not turn up. Only bike one was from woolyhatshop and he reimbursed me straight away.
