i work in halfords and the halfords tyre sealant is the same as the one sold in wilkinsons. Difference is youll pay twice the price in halfords!!!

Litre of latex from art shop. £10
Glitter from supermarket (cheaper) £0.50
puncture slime from wilkinsons £4
antifreeze £0 as you presumably have enough anywho, if not water.

Will do a lot of tyres if you dont **** it up a lot.

I'm sure they wont want me to say this too loud but i once got a nobby nic replaced with photo evidence. The bead had become dodgy after less than a hundred miles and wouldnt seat on teh rim past about 5 psi.

Im no expert but i ride with someone who knows far too much about cf stuff and loves his RC31s. He told me they have a spigot or something from teh crown assembly down into the carbon fibre tube. IIRC he said this was the place that gets the largest amount of stress placed on it.

When they do break you hope the spigoty thing bends instead of the CF snapping.

And i do believe that has broken as i said, the picture isnt big enough but the carbon has what looks like a very straight cut instead of a big fracture.

Apparently whoever bought out Paces fork department (DT swiss??) have shown a RC31 prototype with the titanium/alloy spigot made of carbon fibre. Talk about missing the point.

i find the comments about the jumps being rubbish odd because i thought they were good, you could take them small or large.

I was at swinley on friday and got to the jump gulley literaly 5 seconds are some kid (i say kid but about 16-18) face planted the floor. His face was a bit bloody and he looked like he took a hard hit on the floor. I rode the jumps whilst my brother was talking to them and he said the guy had short term memory loss. I cant help but feel atleast the memory loss could have been avoided by the wearing of a helmet.

I seem to have had a few "big" crashes for riding xc like falling in holes and being sent over the front of the bike a few metres but never actually hurt myself in the few years ive done it. Cant help feeling one day ill get caught out :?

if you look at those broken rc31s they've failed exactly how they should have. Instead of snapping the crown assembly has bent. Unfortunately other companies dont do the same thing :S

Ive ridden some stuff on my exotic carbon forks that a lot of people wouldnt do on XC suspended bikes and not had problems. Get the odd creak and stuff from the front end but ive not stopped riding them yet.

Just dont smash them on anything and make sure they dont crack or anything and you will be fine.

I agree with what TJ says. To further his point about expecting cars to do stupid things ive found making eye contact works wonders. I dont really know why but if you are looking straight at someone they will see you far more often than if you are lookign somewhere else. Must be some inbuilt mechanism or something! Especially useful with cars pulling out from the left.

stuartie_c i had exactly the same thing from roger musson. I didn't think his telephone manners were particularly good either. When i said i wanted to buy some of his wheels i was met with about 10 seconds of silence followed by a rather rude "if you had read the website you would see i have non in stock." Maybe the reason i was phoning is to enquire about preordering.

Ah well, hes still the cheapest by far so i may get them from him simply due to cost. Otherwise ill get my LBS to retrue them for me as they are very good.

i second what milkie has said.

DO A SKID PAN ASAP.

Its the most useful one hour lesson ive ever had. Also doubled as being a hell of a laugh, getting to slid a bmw 316 round a car park and actually be encouraged to do so. :D

i ride down the middle on my own. If im with other riders then i generally go down the left or wait in the queue as i know i can get up to 30mph on my fixie if i have to for a short while. The people i ride with on the road simply cant do that.

Ive only once had a problem doing this when a articulated lorry wanted to make a U turn and didnt signal till he started turning at which point he saw me and got told to use his indicators earlier.

hmm, id like a way of storing stems and on them handlebars from a wall. I was tihnking of getting an old straight handlebar and clamping them on.

I dont imagine a seatpost would work otherwise i would take it for the price of postage and "recycle" it.

advantages of schraeder –
You can buy them for £1 in poundland
they still have removable cores so its easier to deflate them or put slime in
i dont really know, i've asked this question myself. Sometimes people come in at work (halfords!) and ask me for "high pressure valves" when they buy inner tubes. In reality they want it for a mountain bike so the pressures not going ot matter with either valve.

I have also drilled road rims and run schraeder valves at 110psi at the moment. No loss of air. Perhaps they will eventually blow out the inside of the valve or something??? 8O

How do you mean a 2.25 nobby nic will be too large for your liking?

Im riding a nobby nic 2.4 at the minute on my sometimes rigid/sometimes 130mm travel SS inbred. Its the most mental tyre ive ever used and perhaps its a bit big but i cant see how a 2.25 would be too big. Probably a better tyre in fact.

My only complaint about NNs is the price.

I love muse put simply.

I was glad to see older b sides like Nishe and House of the Rising Sun played. Very very nice considering, as far as im aware, they have never been played live.

Yes their later stuff is a bit weak but I still think it has more depth than most shit on the radio.

slight derail, just got some of these pads aswell and going to open a tin of worms. Ready?

Anyone found a way of breakign them in that is better than other methods?

Im never satisfied with my brakes power so i must be doing soemthing wrong.

it will cost you what, £20 to try singlespeeding? So give it a go!

Of course if you do it properly with slot dropouts it costs as much as the cheapest SS specific frame you can find but will be a better choice.

another vote for my tracks. Very simple to use. Can be saved as several GPS formats most importantly .gpx so you can upload it or view it on the computer. I personally upload it to mapmyride which is good.

For an idea of accuracy heres one of my uploads.

When i crossed the motorway it seemed to get a bit confused but all the other spikey bits are actually fairly accurate. I was doing some exploring and so was turning round in circles and going back on myself etc.

I think for your money you simply cant go wrong with shimano.

My deore hubs, non-butted spokes and xm317 rims have held up just fine and i generally ride with people on expensive chris king, hope etc etc hubs and wheelsets.

Saying that i will be buying a hope wheelset when i can afford it :D

I'm perfectly happy with the riding down ehre on the southcoast. I actually ride with realman and agree that you have to have a certain approach to the riding you do regardless of where it is. Taking the time to use some stupid little set of steps as a drop off, riding around old forgotten woods and the like. One of my favourites is mountain biking in the city, really opens your eyes to the possibilities of a mountain bike.

i shall participate in the "not participating in trimming paths" group.

Certain sections near me seem to be just too overgrown for a single person to cut back though, theres just too much!!! shame because its nice fast singletrack right where it gets overgrown :@ Local "volunteer conservation society" are shit also. Shame really

im looking for some new storage solutions in my bike shed aswell…

What hooks do people use to store bikes similar to the above post? I know there are some in halfords which are about 6-8 quid! Ideally id like the lowest profile storage possible to keep stuff out of the way!

i know its complicated but it would be cool to see who uploaded tracks and then be able to rate/comment on A) the individual GPS track and B) the person uploading. Thus people would take some effort over their GPS uploads and hopefuly make the effort to correct them with software if they arent quite perfect.

I think for your money the £70 shimano hubbed wheels are the best.

However it may be worth looking at some of the superstar wheelsets, no idea on their reliability but they look okay for teh moeny you pay.

AFter watchign some videos ive ridden a few of the roads/jucntions in question and clearly live pretty close to this guy but ive never seen him out and about!

The roundabout hes going round though, is totally **** stupid. I rode around it once when it was very very quiet in the evening and even that was a stupid thing to do. You always get slow moving traffic in the middle lanes and car trying to zoom up the inside/outside to get one car lengths forward. I wouldnt say what that bus did was good driving though! Given there is a bridge about 500 metres away that is traffic free (other than for cyclists and the occasional moped) i dont know why anyone would use that roundabout!

The worst thign is ive seen slower and less confident riders ride it.

If i was buying a reasonably priced bike/frame and one of the areas NEEDED facing i would expect it to be done by the shop otherwise no.

For example, i needed to chase the threads on my inbreds bottom bracket. Had i bought it from a shop i would have taken it back and if they refused asked for a new frame the threads were that bad!

Didnt really get on with the stroker rydes as i found them such a pain, they only ever generated enough power for about 1 week and the seals have died in the lever (I believe) after one winter of serious use.

I replaced them with stroker carbons as i paid £75 for a nearly new set on here. Amazing brakes for the money, okay they class them as AM/FR brakes but who cares even if you are riding XC. I find they do have a bit of modulation, maybe not as much as shimanos but a little more than my rydes. Perhaps due to the different lever design and easy reach adjustment.

im doing some of the southern welsh trail centres in summer, both me and my brother will be gps'ing all the routes so if they havent been uploaded by then i should be able to do it then.

Are you only showing major trail centres or will smaller places be shown aswell? IE Queen Elizabeth country park.

edit: just read your link doh!
